Just upgraded my Google account to get Google+. REALLY don't want the social side of it, was just thinking it could be used for SEO purposes for my site and to add another level of authorship to it.

But I am SO CONFUSED!! Can anyone explain simply for me the authorship steps for authenticating as the author of my work? And is it worth it? Will it actually accomplish anything?

Man i'm so not into this social media stuff!

You want your face on search results don't you?  ;)

You have to make a google profile. And yes, we can get that going in SY since its already been on my mind. The only reason I didn't do it already is because...well...how hard do you want SY to be for you???

It might be as simple as having the google profile link field in the Symbiostock Profile and Extended Network Info and the theme could take it from there.

If you want to double check my research and give me a list of requirements, I can put them into SY theme for you.

Always ready to help Leo arent you!

ITs not so much that I want it - I just want to know what the benefits would be. It seems the more ways you can verify your own content the better, but whats the downsides? Really want to hear from people who know more about this than me (pretty much everyone!)

I do ZERO social networking stuff and pretty much want to keep it that way. But I made my G+ profile in case it would be useful for more authorship markup on my site.

If you want to add it in Leo, I'm sure it would be great the way you suggest - just enter the ID and the theme do the rest.

I know less about it than you but if, as you are indicating this would help verify our own work and help with advertising I am all for it

Social media gets and keeps your name in front of people, but i am still not convinced it actually translates into dollars.

If anyone has substantiated facts to the contrary, i would like to hear.

In my experience previously social media means more people lifting your pictures without any regard to your copyright and spreading them around .  Just had another load removed from pin interest (deliberate misspelling as not advertising them :))

Yeah thats the truth. Its very discouraging to do a google search and see the amount of high rez images that can be lifted from their search. Why would anyone want to buy anything? Its criminal...basically stealing on two counts.  >:(  Anyway, i remain hopeful that there are still people left in the world who will do the right thing.

My ( very limited) understanding is that google "rewards" sites that have verified authors on google+

I think this will be useful if you plan on using blogs etc., to drive traffic to your site, and then onto your store.

If you just plan a stock store...maybe not useful, but no harm.  If you are having an interactive site ( blog etc., ) as well as the store then worth the effort.

If anyone knows more or has a better understanding PLEASE correct me.

That (the bolded part) was sort of my understanding, and the reason I was looking into it. Especially with the newest Google update it seems Google are rewarding any Google related site more than others from what I have read.

There's one guy in Timbuktu that claims he got four customers and social media is how he gets his clients.  :) There's always someone contrary, like people who claim they get good sales from Flickr. The other 98% find it's an invitation to rights abuse, theft and copyright confusion.

I have some social media accounts and I make it clear that I take photos. I have some links and some "pretty pictures" but I'm not going to put the best work up there to be assimilated into culture for free. I have a Pinterest account, also two photos. I think people who believe it's karketing to have your images used and stolen, are kidding themselves when they say, it might lead to a sale.

Maybe it has, but it's more likely it's only the unusual reports and rare sales that get reported, while the rest of the time, nothing happens, or photos are purloined and people don't sit and write about that? The comparison is this. People who come back from Las Vegas a winner, will tell all their friends and how happy they are, and repeat the story over and over. When people lose, they don't come back to brag about dumping thousands in the casino and coming home broke.

Someone who sells something on social media will toot their horn to no end, but the dark side doesn't get much play. Except places like this of course, where we have mostly honest discussions of the market and situations.
