What about new work? That work is submitted at the same time to all agencies as my own work? So the indexing happens at the same time. Would it be better to submit work to my own site first and then to the agencies?

Hi Ron - That's exactly what I plan to do.  New work will get submitted to our site first.  I'll experiment a bit to see how long to let it age (and hopefully get indexed) before uploading to other agencies.  My understanding is that the earliest date the image was indexed holds some weight as well as the size of the image itself (bigger is better).  Our symbiostock sites have larger previews than most agencies which is good for ranking (of course using a strong watermark for some protection is advisable).

It is slow going to re-do all the images but I am doing them as I go.

I too am uploading to my site first then waiting a few days to upload to other sites.

Considering I just did the Google analytics about a week ago
I have 1170 pages indexed and 490 images (out of 2365 published)
pleased with that result.

What happens if the title is the same as on the micros? I am changing some titles, as some images do not have titles, my older ones, and then the description is taken as title, which I then amend. So there are slight differences. What about new work? That work is submitted at the same time to all agencies as my own work? So the indexing happens at the same time. Would it be better to submit work to my own site first and then to the agencies?

Anyhoo, I will change titles then, if it makes that much difference.

I don't know that anyone has actually SHOWN it is effective -- we have some anecdotal evidence of it happening.  I've gotten 1900 pages indexed on google for my site and about 200 images indexed out of 1500 images.  no  one's reported getting more than 20% of their images indexed yet

otoh, my images that I find online -- like my 'moose walking' appear multiple times from different agencies, even though the captions, etc are identical

one positive note -- warmpicture had a pretty good record of getting images listed in the first few rows of images, beating out agency images that had been online longer.

another factor to consider -- unlike previous sites like smugmug, sym creates a unique, detailed page for each image, and this may be why there's been such success in getting sites indexed on google.

so, for me, I've got thousands more images to upload before I do much tuning on individual images;  if people keep reporting their progress here we'll all benefit.

another place to enter your image info is the combined image & keyword db's l've set up at http://cascoly.com/symbio/testsymbio.asp  once I get it debugged and have more interactive searching i'll starting promoting it more, but alrerady you can get the images, categories and other information for various sites

I've had 3470 pages indexed out of 3974 and 327 images indexed out of 618.  Before submitting I edited each image individually, changing the title, description, and URL when needed.  I'm using WordPress SEO by Yoast.  I make sure that the focus keyword is included in the Article Heading, Page Title, Page URL, Content, and Meta Description.  My relatively small portfolio made this a not too difficult task.  It could be daunting for someone with a large portfolio, but might be worth it in the long run.

That looks useful, thanks. This weekend I am going to dedicate to uploading my entire portfolio to my site.  But it needs to be done in a controlled matter as the site displays the images in uploaded order. So if I upload my new stuff now, and my older stuff later, my older work sits up front. But once its done,  I can link too.

Probably I will be out tomorrow morning at sunrise to shoot a few images in Bray, Ireland at Bray's Head. Early rise, around 3am, so I might take a big nap when getting back before getting to work on my site.

I love photography !!

There are a few ways you can control the display order that don't rely on making yourself crazy with trying to put them up in a particular order as you process.  Take a good look at the controls in the upper right of the image processing area, above the Publish or Update button.  It's self-explanatory but you can be creative in their uses.

1.) when you work on an image you don't have to publish right away - you can do the work and just save as draft then publish when you have the group done.

2.) you can set the order by editing the date and time (listed using a 24 hour clock).  Want to publish your oldest pictures to appear at the end of the sort?  Set the date to January.  Want to promote some seasonal images?  Go change the publish date to today's date.  Want to group previously published images together and they are all over the place?  Go change them to the same date and hour, just minutes apart.

3.) You can also use the clock to manage publishing images on future dates.  Work on images over the weekend then set the date for Monday morning, or set up images to publish fresh images every day of the week.  Or set up several to publish when you're traveling so you have a continuous flow of fresh content.  Setting the date and time in the future schedules the publish time and holds it until that date.

I made this:

http://symbiostock.info

Now there is only self-expanding list of Symbiostock sites. Every hour it takes one site from list, gets its symbiocard, images info, and looks for next network sites. Only one found site is added per hour.

what do you plan to do from here??  are you doing anything with the images & keyword info?  we should coordinate so we don't duplicate too many efforts

Now I have code for automated fetching csv files from sites and moving data into tables. I know, that I partially duplicate your job, but it is occasion for me to develop my programming skills. I think that you concentrate on all Symbiostock specific stuff, like artists info, categories, network analysis.
I plan to make search engine. Something like Google Images, but only for Symbio. Then maybe I'll make a plugin from it. Widget, which can be placed somewhere in every Symbio site.
And even better: this search site will pretend Symbio site to outer world, so everyone will be able to place it in network list :)

Just had a quick look and about 754 out of 951 of my images appear in Google images so far - that seems quite good to me ?

You can also do this with Google Webmaster Tools if you've submitted a sitemap.  WordPress SEO automatically creates sitemaps for you to submit if you have that plugin.

@Ron
Try yoast seo http://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/

It'll create any sitemap for you like this http://stock.imagerion.com/sitemap_index.xml

and it has few good site optimization tools at the same time. then you can uninstall some feature duplicating plugins

Just had the shocker of my life, my whole site went blank after trying to deactivate Jetpack, the login.php got corrupted and all I saw was a blank site. I could still see the site on a new browser, but not on the one I was logged in. And trying to create a new user, resulted in the site going blank again for that user as well. Had to do a complete restore using Bluehost and now its working again. Only lost a bit of work done today. Holy mother.... Bluehost worth its money already.

Ron, I don't know why, but when I search "eggs" in your site, and then click on that eggs thumbnail, different image is displayed. Maybe your crash/restore did something wrong...

Thanks for letting me know.

When an image has no title and description it get a standard slug - Royalty free image by user name. I had not updated the slog of the egg image, so it pulled up another image with the same default slug. What is weird though is that the image it pulled up is a draft and not published. Anyhoo, thanks, good to know this can happen.

I tested my search engine here

http://symbiostock.info

For eggs is showed some results, I clicked on yours and ????
First I thought that I had done something wrong  :)

And this search is first try, now I have to paginate it somehow, mix results from sites.
There are only about 4000 images indexed now, almost all from two sites.

Hi Andrzej
That shows a very fast result for searches!

Is it possible to delete the tulip.kerioak.com site before it gets into your system.  I have deleted it from the network, deactivated and deleted Symbiostock.  Looks like I will have to totally delete the site to stop it appearing in the network (which is a bit concerning if we ever want to leave it might prove difficult)

Nice to see some of my Dobermanns showing up :)

Edited to add:  Deleted files show up as tiny blank boxes (where I am trying to get png and jpg to show up)

Thats still bring up the old slug, so when that global search is updated, the slug should be fine. Cool tool anyway.

That is a cool search function you have there. Very nice!

Re: google, my images for my minerals are now (for the popular ones) showing in the same rows as my agency ones. I made some minor twekas to titles and descriptions only. I'm really impressed with this whole project. Now all I have to do is somehow convert clicks into buys. :)

Which is what we all have to do...start letting the buyers know we exist.

http://cascoly.com/symbio/symbiostock-network.asp now does searches on both keywords and images

For images, captions and links are included, increasing your visibility to search engines

the networking reports show both who each site links to and who links to each site.

I'll also be adding a section on the symbiostock.com site that lists all the externally developed apps as they come online
