Title: Symbiostock.net
Post by: travelwitness on July 03, 2013, 16:05
I've set up Symbiostock.net to help people get started with their sites and promote some of the cool work out there on the network.

I've started to post up some of the useful info from the forums so they are a bit easier to find and any other useful stuff I find on the web.

The site's aimed at photographers and illustrators looking to get started and hopefully will get some interest from designers and developers outside of MSG.

Many thanks to all who kindly gave me the use of their work to get the site off the ground.

Anyway hope you guys find it useful :-)

That looks a bit different to last time I looked  :)

If you are taking site submissions I could not find anywhere to register to do so?

Wow! That looks terrific and I'm looking forward to seeing it evolve.

If you're open to suggestions my personal preference is to have links to outside sites (for the theme download, plug-ins, child theme, etc.) open in a separate tab so I can easily find my way back to the original source without having to use the "back" button if I end up wandering to far.  With all the tips and help center I think it would be beneficial to be able to bounce back and forth between tabs for plug ins and the help pages.

Yeah thats great stuff Matt.

Weirdest thing tho. Results using your search bring up images from my site, that dont come up using search on my site, but the keywords are there. It has me baffled.  :)

search for Dutch flag on www.symbiostock.net (http://www.symbiostock.net) and www.semmickphoto.com (http://www.semmickphoto.com) and you will see the woman with the Dutch flag is missing.

Thanks Klsbear.

Not sure I can get the external links to open in a new window, it done using a word press theme, can't see any options for that.

I can't take credit for symbiostock.info - the search site is done by Ajotte, way beyond my technical skill :-)

I was thinking of posting a topic up so people can Pimp their images, like that other place :-)
That way I can go through and update the site when I get time.

There is a directory listing section I was going to use for people with their sites up and running. It will list by category so you can filter by topic. I need to look at that part a bit more and add some info to the page so it's clearer. You can add a picture, web link etc.

The idea was to start a kind of yellow pages for Symbiostockers and designers looking for specific work.

The title is Artist Directory, so I think that's the directory listing section you are referring to. Sounds like a great idea and the site is really nice and clean. Very professional!

edit: love the logo, too

You can do that on a PC, simply use right click when you select the link. On a Mac, use CMD-click. I also have right click enabled on my iMac so it behaves like a PC. In either case, you may need to play with your settings or preferences.

Use Ctrl/Cmd-W to return to the previous open tab.

(I haven't used a PC in years - since Windows 98 - so please forgive me if I didn't get it quite right).

there are several special searches on http://symbiostock.cascoly.com (http://symbiostock.cascoly.com)

list all keywords starting with...
eg 'bab'  shows babe ...babies..  baby ... baby jesus

with links to individual sites.

you can also list the keywords used by each site, alphabetically and by frequency. can be useful for finding misspelled words, etc

You can see the promoted keywords, and i'm working on a report that will combine everyone's promoted keywords in various ways; also categories.  problem with categories will be there's no standard naming.
