Title: customer management area not appearing
Post by: munrotoo on July 29, 2013, 10:03
I am testing my symbiostock site this morning. I am a real newbie at auto downloads, wordpress and symbiostock. I can get paypal to take the money, it sends me an email saying someone has paid, but the customer management area never appears. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might have setup wrong?

Just to clarify, is it that the customer area doesn't show up at all? Or the purchased image doesn't show up on the customer area page?

Well I am a little unclear about how this works, but originally, I thought that once the purchase was made, the customer management area would appear in the header menu and the customer could download the illustration from there. the link to the customer management page never appeared and the shopping cart continued to show the illustration as if check out had not occurred, even though check out had taken place and I had received the email of the purchase and on logging into paypal the purchase was logged there.

I then thought well, maybe I need to put the customer management page in my header menu before the illustration can be downloaded. So I did that. But the link just goes to the illustration not purchased.

Not redirecting to your customer page after the PayPal purchase is made, I'm not sure why that's not working.

The other part of it, the image not showing on that page as purchased and downloadable, I had a similar problem. Not sure it's the same issue I had, but in my case it was caused by a plugin. I was running the Bad Behavior plugin and deactivating that plugin solved my problem. Are you running that plugin or anything similar?

I am not running Bad Behavior.

I am running Akismet, Hello Dolly, Jetpack, Taxonomy, Symbiostock. I am not sure where the Hello Dolly one came from.

Try and add the auto return link in your paypal settings.

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/express_return_summary-outside (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/express_return_summary-outside)

I have autoreturn on in paypal and it is set to my site sportartzootoo.com
It needs to be the link to your customer management area where the image sits ready for downloading.

Yep, should be something like this: http://www.your-domain.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/ (http://www.your-domain.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/)

I am glad I ran across this post, I had completely forgot to set this up in paypal.

Thank you.

I changed the IPN in paypal under selling tools to http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/. (http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/.) It comes back to that url along with paypal_return_message=1 but the image in the cart is still there not the downloadable button. I see the message to wait a few seconds and refresh but even after refreshing several times I still get the image for sale and not available for download.

I think that :

Paypal IPN must be
http://sportsartzootoo.com/symbiostock_ipn/ (http://sportsartzootoo.com/symbiostock_ipn/)
and
Autoreturn URL must be
http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/ (http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/)

 ;)

Unless you've changed the URL for the managment area like I did.

Dang I thought this would be it, because I did not have it set like this, but now under selling tools - ipn - i have - http://sportsartzootoo.com/symbiostock_ipn/ (http://sportsartzootoo.com/symbiostock_ipn/)

under "web site preferences" I have http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/ (http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/)

no change however in problem

do you have to have "payment data transfer" on in paypal?

do you have to have "payment data transfer" on in paypal?
Payment Data Transfer (PDT) allows you to receive notification of successful payments as they're made

Thanks Ron for your patience with this.

I did look at that developer explanation on paypal for the payment data transfer. The problem is I am a little new at this to understand exactly and more important I don't know if symbiostock requires.

But it sounds like you are saying it is not required it is just I would get an email (I am assuming) that payment was successful if I have it on?

I have it turned on and I get an email, in fact I get two, one from symbiostock and one from paypal

Do many of you have this option setup with PayPal?

I didn't see it in the Symbiostock docs (http://<your website>/wp-admin/admin.php?page=symbiostock-control-options)

If so, how do you setup the Payment Data Transfer Script that they discuss on the PayPal website (https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/classic/products/payment-data-transfer/ (https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/classic/products/payment-data-transfer/))?  The URL for the script generator (https://www.paypaltech.com/pdtgen/ (https://www.paypaltech.com/pdtgen/)) seem to be broken/not working.

Just tick the radio button on your paypal account and its done.

I gave out all the information, including for developers.

I am not developer and I have it working, it was 2 seconds work, active return url, enter return url, activate PDT. Done. All on your PP account, not on SYS

I envy your 2 seconds Ron.

I turned on PDT and tried again but my result was the same. The images is paid for and I am brought back to http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/ (http://sportsartzootoo.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/) but there is the image as if I still needed to pay for it. I wait a few minutes and refresh the browser but nothing changes. The image with the paypal button is still there instead of a download.

Right now I am really at a loss as to what to do.

But thats not a paypal problem. Your paypal is working fine so it seems. You have a problem with your download not showing up, thats a site or theme issue.

I got the email also. So the problem must be on the tester side. This is great! Thanks for taking the time to check it Ron! I will change computers for the tester. Thanks again!

Not completely on topic but this was as close as I can find.

I think early on when I was figuring things out I might have deleted the
/symbiostock-network-directory/
page

when I click on the link I get the oops page now.

Is there any way to get it back?
Thanks

Try this...

Create a new WordPress page called "Symbiostock Network Directory" and have it use the "Network - Directory" template.  Give it a permalink of "symbiostock-network-directory".

Since it relates to the last question, I'll try asking here.

I deleted the Author page, at some point, during set up. Does anyone know what the fix is to get it back? Is it similar to the one for the network directory?

Thank you for your help.

I don't see a page for the Author.  My best guess is that your username (s@qc5Xv6) contains a weird symbol (the @ symbol) and maybe the Symbiostock application doesn't like it.  If that is the problem, I'm not sure how to fix it since you can't seem to change the username.
