I'm pretty sure the answer is, and always has been, NO. It uses - instead which is much better in search engine's eyes (although yet the debate rages..).

However, since one of the later versions (no idea which one, but somewhere from 2.0 onwards) Woorank SEO Check page consistently says that my symbio site is using underscores in the URLs.

For the life of me I can't find a single instance of it. Can anyone shed some more light on it for me? Does your site show the same when run through Woorank - www.woorank.com ?

I looked thru the global database and couldn't find any underscores -- I suppose if someone used an underscore in the ttile it might appear, but otherwise dashes are used throughout

does woortank give any specific urls?

an easy solution is to switch to yoast and/or leo's plugin!

thanks  cascoly, thats pretty comprehensive then if you've checked globally.

I'm already using Yoast and Leo's plugins. I just occasionally use woorank to highlight other areas that I can work on to improve site SEO.

It doesn't give me any extra info, but the woorank test was run on my homepage, http://thpstockphotos.com

I just wonder why it thinks it is finding underscores when they're not there...

so it reports underscores but won't tell you where they are?  sounds like an extortion app -- pay us and no data will get hurt!

Haha, yeah I know what you mean. Oh well, it may just be a quirk in Woorank, not in Symbio if no one else can find any either. Thanks Cascoly

I'd avoid putting too much stock in sites like woo rank. Right search engine presence is really earned well in Symbiostock using quite a few good strategies -

Right now search engines are learning to recognize literal human interest, which they often gauge through social networks. Just uploading new content to your site is the best thing you can do (besides ensuring its interesting). Making sure Google sees your site before an agent for the given content is very helpful as well.

True.

Just one more question Leo, I was wondering, do you know if Google somehow can know/track our sales, and if so does this reflect on our ranking?

Eg: A site that gets 10 visitors a day but doesn't sell anything for 6 months might be seen as less important in ranking than a site that gets 10 visitors a day with a sale every 7 days.

Is that possible? Just crossed my mind the other day and it had me interested.

They probably have no way...most things are speculative.

Google Analytics btw is helpful for us but exists mostly for Google's benefit, like most things they give you. Whaty define as a "conversion" is probably sensed somewhere in the picture. Who knows how ... its just statistics and activity.

Google is a statistics machine. They know exactly what people are interested just by what gets the click, and which is a reason images incrementally find their way up. SEO is maxed in Symbiostock, and the rest is just small details. Its you and people at this point.

Google LOVES social networks, and rely on them to figure out what matters to people. Twitter for instance is a huge tool Google uses. If you upload an image and then tweet it (especially if you have some followers) you'll get indexed instantly - because twitter is an active and open link network and reflects human interest quite honestly. I studied it for a while a year ago. Facebook is a tool they wish they could use, but its a huge competitor. Last I knew Facebook still laughs at Google and blocks them wherever possible.

With that said I'd avoid getting too deep into the social network thing as well, since its just another distraction and a way to sell you stuff. At this point the only thing you can do is run your site in a way that customers like. Search engines know your customers better than you or your customers :D

I'm really crawling through this thing. I'm not getting my energy back on anything these days.

Cascoly seems to like it, so we're off to a good start :D
