a customer just contacted me saying they can't download the file as jpeg and it comes as html..

What could be causing it? I can see that they used safari browser to contact me... I asked for confirmation of the browser they used and told them to try on other browsers..

They will let me know how that goes..

the reason I started this thread is not to solve my own issue because I can sort it out in many ways..

Rather I want to find out if this is a universal issue on safari browser.. if it is, it should be universally addressed..

Yeap!

Customer just told me that it worked on Chrome..

so the issue is sorted and a possible safari bug is discovered..

I am sure someone else mentioned .html at the end of image - one of our newer members the other day

The second question in the OP states:

Quote
2. When I make a test buy of a Large photo and download it, it will have .html in the end of the filename: for instance 22-large.jpg.html. If i remove .html, the file is fine?

I am not a coding expert but I believe the issue I brought up is browser specific..

You might be correct.

I was just responding to Kerioak~Christine's post about someone having a similar issue.

Maybe they were using Safari as well.

Leo, since you are around, I thought moving this thread up could be a good idea..

We may have a bug here that prevents safari users from downloading purchased files..

Thats really weird! Yes -- good timing.

I saw that once in a few isolated cases in my prototype site. Let me noodle this and get back to you.

You probably know that changing the extension will fix the problem, yes? In the meantime I'll fiddle with this and see whats causing it.

I have actually tried safari on my machine, and it worked fine..

but then again, mine is safari for windows, whereas the customer was using safari for mac..

thanks to Nikd90, we were able to do a test purchase on safari for mac and the test image was downloaded without any issues..

It is possible the customer messed something up then.. :)

I just did a test purchase on my site using safari and the downloaded image had an html extension (3221-small.jpg.html).  Of course removing ".html" from the filename fixed things up but we shouldn't expect a customer to have to deal with that.

May be has to do with the setting in your browsers. Do you have latest version of safari? What OS is it? Do you have flash, java etc updated ?

Good questions.  Honestly I don't often use safari but since I was logged in on the site as an admin on firefox I used safari to make the purchase.  Although I don't use it much I do believe that I've kept everything up to date.  The Safari version I used is Version 6.0.5  I always update flash, java and safari itself whenever my mac tells me they need to be updated.

I am using safari version 5.1.9 and I don't see any updates

Just had an email from a buyer saying she got an html extension. I asked her on which browser.

How is this problem fixed again?

I believe that they just have to remove the html extension, but they might have to add a .jpg extension (if it isn't there when they remove the html extension).

Ha, thanks, but that is not a fix. It shouldnt download as html, it needs to be a proper normal jpg download. It doesnt look good and certainly not professional if it doesnt work properly.

I thought that you were asking how to fix the issue with the customer.

I'm not sure that anyone has figured out how or why it happens.  From what I have read it is an intermittent problem.  So until someone can reproduce the issue consistently, there won't be a permanent solution.

I just downloaded an image from my site using Safari with Mac and it downloaded ok as a jpg. I have been researching, and found this:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24293

and this

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2020205?start=0&tstart=0

The second link is enlightening. Might be worth a call to your support person at your hosting company to check things out. The person who is having issues in the second link above says their hosting company says its an issue with Safari, but Safari obeys the command sent by the server. I have no clue who is right, but if it were happening to me, I would call bluehost and just ask the question.

I used safari on Mac to download pic from cidepix website, who reported the issue first. The photo was correctly downloaded as .jpg.
I doubt if it is the issue with the hosting company. I think for Ron this is the second sale and The first sale went fine without any issue
