I have been playing with a test set-up.

Do you have to log-in to the site to select/ purchase an image?

Is there a way around this?

I want to put as few clicks in the way of purchases as possible.

i noticed this too - i'd prefer not to require registering or login until the user decides to buy, and even then make it an option (perhaps 10% discount for registered users)

For now you have to log in. For me it was easiest that way to connect the customer with their download.
Also someone else asked if an expiration date could be put on downloads. Hope to eventually get to that.

that was me :) I think it is crucial to have an expiration date OR to limit the number of times a download link can be clicked on..

btw back to the subject of this thread I think it is good that people have to register and provide you their emails which you can use in future marketing efforts..

if someone wants an image, they will register and buy it no matter how many steps there are..

If someone wants an image they will register... but if they have the choice between grabbing it off of google or doing doing one or two clicks, I am hoping they will buy my image.

If they have to register, wait for an email ( I assume) then go back and find the image, and then check out... they have to really "want' the image...and want to be marketed to.

I would be happy with  facebook log in, but I am not sure if wordpress supports this.

I see your point..

maybe instead of making people check their email for the password, they could just create their password during registration and login/purchase without leaving the site..

this could be optional.. so if someone prefers to use it as it is now, there would be no problems..

oh and wordpress supports everything you can imagine.. you just have to get used to it..

wordpress is better than "the site you paid thousands of dollars to have created by some design agency".. and it is free..

what's even better? google loves wordpress sites..

point is, we're forcing them to register (aka getting ready to spam them) BEFORE they even know if we have anythiung they're interested in.  people should be able to explore and search everything before they're required to give us any information.   even the maligned stock agencies  we're trying to jump around let people explore their offerings before forcing them to give up an email

i know that when i'm looking for any internet solution, any site that requires me to register BEFORE letting me even know if they can help, immediately goes to the bottom of my list & i go back to google

for me, this is a HIGH priority fix - any customer lists and marketing should be opt-in ONLY, not forced

I thought you could always explore, see prices etc before registering, that you only had to register to actually buy.   I think that is standard with download purchases, another site I sell items from allows non-registered people to purchase when it is being posted but if it is being downloaded they have to register.

The advantage of having the password sent to them is that it confirms their email address - the same place the download notification goes to if they "misplace" the site or page they ordered from.

I have loaded, installed and configured the social contacts plug-in and it seems to work pretty smoothly.

I haven't tried using it for a sale yet... a few other things I need to work out first.
