I may be getting in way over my head but I really want to jump into this and try to make it work however all the tech-talk jargon is starting to make my head spin.  If someone can help point me in the right direction to help me get rolling I'll happily write some tutorials in return for others totally new to this that want to get started.

Here's what I've accomplished so far:
Host site set up with Bluehost with both a primary domain and an add-on domain
Intent is to use add-on domain for Symbiostock (primary domain was previously set up for other use though currently not active.  Do have the option to have Bluehost "name swap" them to make my add-on the primary and the current primary an add-on if that makes things easier)
I have basic understanding of Wordpress from blog site at WP.com site so I do understand navigating the backend.

Here's where I'm stuck:
Followed Github link in the "take care of the baby" link and not quite sure what to do next.  What should I be downloading to be able to upload the theme to WP?  Can I upload the theme via the Appearance/Themes/Install/Upload process in WP or do I need to transfer via .ftp to my Bluehost acct.?
Also wondering about all the updates and what steps need to be done with regard to adding updates (or will that WP Theme Update Plug In mentioned at the bottom of the github page take care of all that?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Don't worry, we are all clueless. Just expert fakers. We don't even understand eachother.

First, get this zip file - https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/master/symbiostock.zip?raw=true and save it to your desktop.

The next question is do you have a wordpress set up already? You would know if you do - you'd go here: yoursite.com/wp-login.php

Depending on how lost you are, I can just set up everything for you if you wish. I have a feeling bluehost is the way to go for most people so I'd like to see it in action. leo[at]symbiostock.com if you want me to install everything to working specs.

Thanks Leo!  That did the trick.  Wordpress is up and running and it's now running Symbiostock!  I just wasn't sure which file I needed to upload from Github.  Thanks for the offer to get me up and running.  I really want to conquer this myself if possible, in part to prove to others that it's easier than they think so they'll jump on board too. I'll start playing with it (tomorrow - it's after midnight here in NY) and if I really hit a wall I'll reach out to you once you've come back from your hiatus.

Thats much better. The more self-sufficient everyone is the better. Pretty soon it will all be second nature to everyone to run a symbiostock site hopefully.

I definitely want to jump on board too. I have been reading thru the threads and see you got the subdomain and non-root install bug hashed out, but i think i will wait just a little longer for some of the other issues to be resolved. You guys are awesome, doing all the troubleshooting, etc. Thanks so much for getting this going!

Ok, DELETE THOSE FAST

I think your uploading to the media area. The sellable images have their own unique upload/processing area.

You want to upload here: http://grungeframes.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image&page=symbiostock-upload-images

Process here: http://grungeframes.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image&page=symbiostock-process-images

We'll start with that and let everyone know if that much works out. The beginning learning curve is a little hard, but once your over it your all set.

I'm not sure how to solve the image/thumbnail question you're asking about but here's some info on increasing file size.  The link below gives a more detailed explanation than what I did.

http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-general/symbiostock-faq%27s-hints-tips-information-etc/msg308444/#msg308444

I followed these instructions:

Open notepad (in Windows) and type:

upload_max_filesize = 32M
post_max_size = 32M

Then save as php.ini  (notepad will automatically add a .txt file extension when you save the file.  You'll need to remove that from the saved file name before you upload)

Go to File Manager area of your hosting site.  You'll find File manager is in the cPanel.  Bluehost has it in a group called Files and File Manager is the third folder from the left.

Click on that and select the default option which is the Public_html option. This takes you to the area of the server that contains all the top level files. (my top level file was "public_html" and the new screen that opened had this highlighted in the file tree on the left with several files showing on the right.

Click on the little plus sign to the left of the Public_html folder to show the sub-folders.  You should see a folder with your domain name and if you open that to show sub-folders and see the Symbiostock_rf folder here you'll know you're in the right place.

You're going to upload to that Public_html folder so make sure that is highlighted.  In Bluehost there are icons at the top and one of them is UPLOAD.  Click on upload, find your php.ini file in the location you saved it and upload it into the top level directory (Public_html).

Go back to the dashboard area of your site and click on the Symbiostock panel and go to the testing tab on the top far right of that page that opens.  You may need to refresh your site and under the Symbiostock config pages, you should now see these two variables set to 32M.

I am uploading using the Upload Images in the Royalty Free Images section, but it is putting my images, along with a minipic, into the Media Library. Is that correct?

That is correct. It puts watermarked and minipic into your media area.

The main file(s) gets transferred over to the protected folder.

Hi everyone,
first of all: thanks to everybody working on this great idea, I really appreciate this very much! I would like to become part of this community, but at the moment I'm totally stuck.

This is what I've done:
I created a new domain and installed word-press (which is totally new to me). I am located in Germany and my domain is hosted by german provider called "1und1". After installing worldpress, I logged in to my domain, went to themes and uploaded the symbiostock.zip. It started to insall itself but after some seconds I got this:

Unpacking the package
Installing the theme
Could not create directory. /homepages/34/d161073170/htdocs/app465295624/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/
Theme install failed.

Could anyone kindly tell me what I've done wrong?

That should not be happening. Its possible they are blocking certain functions.

Talk about clueless... I tried to create a new sidebar, as in, for different sidebars on different pages. So I followed some web instructions and edited the child themes functions.php file.

Wow did that end badly!! Thank goodness for undo, and that I am using child theme and could revert easily enough. Lesson - I'm getting outa my depth, but having fun trying.

From a quick google search it looks like it is more likely to be 1and1 than you, especially if you are using an entry level rather than pro version.  Looks like you will have to unzip and install manually using ftp, not sure how practical this is?

Thanks Tinny. You are totally right, it was 1und1.de not me. After installing manually via ftp everything is fine now and the basic symbiostock-theme is working.
Now I wonder what are the next steps to do. I gonna read the forum more carefully now to find out.
If there is any photographer from Germany: perhaps you want to contact me. It would be nice to have someone to talk about the more specific questions concerning a website, which is hosted in Germany.

Hi Jsfoto, I am probably closer than most  (England) although I think servers  in the US.  You might also run into memory problems depending on how much your host gives you.   Did you put the symbiostock_rf file in the same area as wp-admin, wp-content etc.   I think the rest goes into a theme but that one is different.

I was able to load the zip to my 1and1 actcts - I run my other wp site from there and was able to install the symbio

actually, that's why it's important to have a FAQ page separate from this thread -- here we has out problems and report success, but it will get unwieldy for people to wade thru the entire thread, so a summary post that can be linked to will help everyone

I was really happy yesterday: I got symbiostock work, changed the welcome message, the logo, the favicon. I installed the child-theme and deleted the twenty twelve theme. So today I wanted to continue but I can't login as admin to see the administration area. Password should be right, as I use a password-manager.
Anyone has any idea what could be the reason?

How do you change the image sizes, I notice some people do not have the defaults.  Do you have to change them as you edit them as doing it in Author Options does not seem to work

That can be done in author options - but there is not an option on the edit page yet.

Havent you got something in your shopping cart? If you go to the licensing/customer area, you should see it in the cart and there is a small x to remove it.

I have 3 same "end user license agreement" pages. I did something wrong at some point. We have some way to recover original pages? My trash can is empty.

Mmhh.... I don't know how you got the cart page - that isn't in my installation. Did you create that? The one you are looking for is something like Customer license and download management. Is that in your top menu?

The multiple license pages was an error in an older release. You only need one - the one without any numbers in its slug (ie the first one to have been created, not -2, -3 etc. )

If you hover over a link in your site that says "License", you should see the page it is looking for in the bottom bar of the browser - that is the one to keep or recreate if you have deleted it.

I don't know. In the early days of SY, I did lots of mistakes. Right now I running last version of SY.

I'm trying to edit "cart" page and put "end-user-license-agreement", but for some strange reason system change it to "end-user-license-agreement-4". Maybe i need to delete others "end-user-license-agreement" pages?

Thanks for help

I think you deactivate the theme, (and possibly delete it)  trash all the EULA;s (after making a copy of the contents) then delete them permanently.  Then reinstall or reactivate the theme and load your data into the new EULA

Ok, i did it. Now i have only one "end user license agreement page". So, now is just create a menu item named "Cart" and link to this page? Below pic of my current only "end user license agreement page" Thanks.

With priceless help from SY friends, finally i found the problem.

As I said, in early days of SY, I did several template changes but at that point, I had less understanding of the system behaviour, so I still suffer with changes I made that time.

Like image below, problem was in wrong template. I need to use "customer" but other one was configured.

I'm a clueless, but I'm getting better.  ;D ;D ;D

It's a "error log" extracted from Cpanel of my site. Someone knows what it means?

RBL = Black list, i know, but my site is in Black list or some site trying to access my site was block?
