Hi folks, I intend to start to get in the Symbiostock community, but I'm very newbie and got a doubt.
I have already a Wordpress blog with an active theme, that I don't want to change at www.ilucato.com.br (http://www.ilucato.com.br) - I wonder if it is possible to install and use the Symbiostock in the same Wordpress structure and I would create a subdomain, something like mysub.ilucato.com.br, and use the Symbiostock theme within this subdomain without changing the main theme or another folder like www.ilucato.com.br/mysymb/ (http://www.ilucato.com.br/mysymb/)... Well something like that.
Sean Locke seems to have achieved that.
Is that possible? How to achieve that? Is there some link where I can read more how to use the Symbiostock theme in a subdomain nad so on?

You can install the WP/SYSY theme tandem under a subdomain. No problem at all. Just follow the instructions you'll find on symbiostorck.org (http://symbiostorck.org) (and elsewhere) and from your host. Once your SYS site is up and running you just include all the links to and from your bog and you're done. This basically means you are running two independent WP sites, your blog and Symbiostock, with two separate WP databases. I am pretty sure that is exactly what Sean has done. Is this what you had in mind?
I doubt that a deeper integration than that is possible (such as two themes on one WP database).

I had an existing blog and I've kept the blog but changed the theme on my site for Symbiostock. The blog is now accessed from a menu.
You can install symbiostock in a subdomain without a problem, but I think if you want to use a different WordPress theme for your blog you'll need to have two WordPress installations, which isn't a problem either. On my site I have a personal (family photo albums) site, my Symbiostock site in a subdomain which has its own domain name and my husband's work blog in a subdomain with its own domain name. His blog and my Symbiostock site are two separate WordPress installations.
It is a valid WordPress installation mode to put it into a subdirectory, but that isn't recommended for Symbiostock sites without having a subdomain set up to point to that directory (in other words you can do what you want, but don't do it via WordPress's alternate installation option).

You'll need to be at PhP 5.4 and you'll want your host to support ImageMagick (most do but sometimes you have to turn it on).

It was no problem to install on a subdomain. I just used the Bluehost control panel to set up another wordpress install in a different "folder/subdomain" and then did the Symbiostock stuff in there. Obviously, I have to log in once for my blog, and once for the shop.

Had I to do over again, I would place either the main blog or Symbiostock on a subdomain. The main reason is the Symbiostock theme makes it impossible for Wordpress to limit the # of blog posts on the main blog page. If you click on my blog page, you will see 60+ posts (as of today) even though I have my settings at "limit 6 posts per page". I think it has something to do with the way Symbiostock uses the Taxonomy Related Posts function, though I could be wrong. Obviously this creates all sorts of problems for your page, including page speed and lack of focus (SEO).
Definitely divide the Symbiostock theme from the main blog.
In the meantime I have been trying to find a workaround for the # of posts issue for blogs within the Symbiostock theme. If I find a way around the problem, I will post the solution.

You can take it even further.
I have installed my Symbiostock into a folder (subfolder) of a subdomain.
\advantica.com/stockphotos (advantica.com has been configured as a subdomain in an existing site)
As the other posters mentioned, all you need to do is to install first a separate copy of WP into that subfolder, and you are good to go.
The main disadvantage of running multiple sites and storing all kinds of images in one place is that the web traffic statistics become less transparent, since all the hits and views are lumped together.
