Title: Is anyone getting "organic" registrations using "Anti-Captcha"?
Post by: stockphoto-images.com on August 21, 2013, 21:38
Since I installed "Anti-Captcha" to prevent spam registrations I can hear the crickets 24/7.

No registration, nothing.

I tried a few registrations myself and they went through without problems but it's kind of really scary not getting anything. It's almost like I miss getting spam emails :o

I know. I installed it, then uninstalled it because I didn't like it working totally in the background. I'm all for preventing spam registrations, but I want to see what has been stopped and it gives you nothing. I would rather deal with the spam registrations and delete them than not see anything at all.

I understand what you mean but in the end it's redundant to still have to go through a list of "caught" spam when using an anti spam filter that generates a list for you.

Might as well not install anything and just select "after approval" then you have a similar effect.

I thought of switching to something like this but then it's basically the same effort in terms of time taken away from my work so I just left it and used Anti-Captcha.

Anyone, feel free to do a test signup on my site. I promise I won't sell your info for large bags of cash.  ::)

I'll do a test registration here in a moment.

I set things that the user must be registered to post comments and also have it set to moderate all comments before publishing them.  Once I set it to you have to register to do well much of anything haven't had any registrations in a few days as well and no spam comments on my FAQ page.  It's like getting rid of that stuff gives you something to do other than staring at your email waiting for a sale.

I don't expect anyone to take this to heart but spam registrations are not too bad unless your getting hit 1000's per hour.

Akismet or whatever is more than sufficient to put them in their own dedicated trash bin (and even auto-delete) if you wish.

Basically if someone wants your image, the only deterrent will be if they have to pay for it or not, and if they intend to pay for it or not.

I have that plugin but haven't felt the need to activate it.

I did a test registration, got my email and logged in with no issues.

OK I got it! Thanks for testing it.  :)

I'm a bit relieved to see it work...

Now, where are my sales again...  ;D
