Title: Linux / WIndows site??
Post by: jatrax on August 14, 2013, 19:59
Starting to setup my site and decided to use Godaddy for hosting as my domain name is already there.  Thought that would be easiest but now I'm not too sure.

They asked for windows or Linux site, I answered windows (not sure why) is that the right answer or should I change to Linux?

Also, my domain name points to my FAA site so I thought to just create a subdomain and host it on Godaddy for the SyS site.  But that's not working either.  Installed WP but now I have no access to the site so I'm stuck.  In the file manager I can see the WP directories and files but browsing to "stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com" just gives me a page not found.

Any thoughts on what to look into?

Linux is required if you want to run Image Magick as the image processor.  I also don't know if you'll have any problems running a Linux site if your OS is Windows.  I had the same question the other day but no idea on the answer.  I also haven't had a chance to call them myself.  Back to school has been keeping me occupied.

I do hope you get it all straightened out and up and running soon.

you usually cant do php on a windows site -- that's why I got both windows and Linux to run my systems -- in some cases I run on the windows site and switch to the Linux site to run some php code (for google maps apps).  so while you might be able to kludge it, get a Linux site for wp & symbio

I find it easier to develop on a windows site, but that's because I've had 30 years experience in db on windows sites (and wrote the user manual for Borland's turbobasic before we even had sql available).  starting today, i'd learn php & its successors
