Leo sleeps?

I just found another issue:

When I goto my author page: http://stockphoto-images.com/author/admin/?r=http://stockphoto-images.com

and click on "Network" I get this message in the box underneath:

Code: [Select]
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/username/public_html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/symbiostock_author_box.php on line 194
Did I break the site again  :P ?

Carsten, no, in another thread others are having issues too. My .csv card disappeared from network page.

OK, thanks Cathy. I saw that this "issue" is not affecting the Symbiostock network search so I guess it's not a big deal.

I'm not sure if it was recent changes I made or just coincidence, but I just bought myself a nice set of crayons with my paypal sandbox monopoly money! And got the download! Large!

I'll switch it back to live mode now.

At this point its a strange issue then - if paypal sandbox works then a usual purchase should work. Thats why sandbox exists...it should be a fairly good mirror of the real system.

At this point I'd ask someone to do a real life test purchase, just in case your dealing with a paypal-side issue with your account or something.

I don't think Ron is having an issue on his own site.. it was a test purchase he made on cathy's site.. or am I wrong?

Maybe I'm confused. If ron did a test purchase on Cathy's site...I missed that detail. If its his own site acting like cathy's thats what I was addressing.

I've done a few more tests. Refund them when you can.

So far the only thing I can see thats even slightly wrong is that I get a strange 301 moved response when the "post" is made to paypal. I'm still looking into it.

Also (unlikely) have you modified the cart-area page in a template at all? Thats one template I suggest nobody messes with.

I am not sure what you mean by modifying the cart-area page in a template. I made one modification to cart.php on line 278 to change DOWNLOAD to ADD TO CART, as was discussed in another thread. But you have reloaded the theme since then and I have not reloaded my cart.php file.

So are the images you purchase moving into the download area?

By the way, this person is/was having the same issue as I am:

I don't see where they ever got it resolved. I asked what theme version they were using but never got an answer, so not sure if they gave up or what or whether it's an earlier version, or 2.6.x.

I responded to wrong thread -- Copied:

I think you are mistaking me for someone else. I have had minor issues with things, like everyone else, until 2.5.5. That was stable for me. Update to 2.5.6 was stable for me. Purchases have gone through just fine for months now, in fact I haven't had issues with that before at all. Not sure what you mean by "long term fight with Symbiostock."

With the rollback to 2.5.5 (2.5.6 simply fixed uploader/hosting issue) the cart does not drop purchases to the download area.

Here is all the "clues" the the puzzle so far.

  • Firebug shows that all necessary post data is being submitted to paypal.
  • Paypal's developer (fake) transaction works perfectly. Its meant to be a mirror-image of the real system. (Tests work in sandbox, not in paid environment for you)
  • Rolling back to 2.5.5 - problem persists. Download not given.
Thats what I have so far. I'll keep noodling it. In the meantime can you check your IPN is turned off? Just in case its hijacking the process (unlikely, but just to make sure)

IPN is disabled in paypal.

When YOU make a purchase live, not in sandbox, does it move to the download area for you? I have asked twice now.  :)

No, I don't get downloads. What I mean is your site is not doing it in this version or the rolled back version.

The last thing we can do is see if the IPN is going through at all (I suspect its not) simply by having the IPN script located in /symbiostock_ipn/ write a text document of the results. Its an annoying processes, but I'll do that quickly and update you. After that I'll have to depart for a bit to the other issues.

No problem. I understand. I have a plugin that says my site is down for maintenance. I will just put that back up until it's resolved.

Here's an update for a while on this one:

In the IPN script I have a little developer option which writes the results to a text file. IF THE IPN is called by paypal, it will write the results (such as buyer info, products, status) and if it fails due to *anything* it will simply write a failed document.

Basically this test works when the IPN script is called by paypal. Going a step further, I wrote in a little "hi I'm here" line just to make sure that the script was updating to the most recent version with every install. I got that response.

Final outcome:

Your site is talking to paypal, but paypal is not talking to your site in a paid setting. In a sandbox setting it works.

Also in near future I'm going to set up an option for paypal response notes to be shown in your admin area so that your not completely in the dark. A script that simply writes you a note as to whats happening if paypal is talking to you.

I'll have an update ready tonight which fixes a few other named issues.

That's my problem discovered just today (see another thread in this section - Where are the thumbnails and preview images stored?).

As an aside, if there are missing files in symbiostock-rf client will get a note to this effect after paying, site owner does not get to see this and would therefore assume all has gone well.

I always think of this every time something new is introduced to the package:

I was confused because i started the thread with this problem, jsnover was having the same issue, you fixed and answered her a few posts below mine, but i never heard back from you until yesterday. I will remove the LEO HELP. Will my site be magically fixed then?  :)

Its also slightly embarrassing to have had images for sale for months and now my site is useless.

My site was stable through 2.5.5 and 2.5.6. I was purchasing test images just fine. I have the same host that i have always had. No other settings have changed. All i did was update to 2.6.4. Last night when you were finished, i disabled two plugins that i think i added after the last successful test purchase which was 8-10-13. Disabling those changed nothing, so i dont think the issue is the plugins. Since the purchase is going through and emails are being sent, it doesnt seem like its a paypal thing. We are getting returned to the site just fine, that just doesnt seem to be triggering the image to move to the download section. I don't know what else i can try. You mentioned some updates, so i will check for those.

I will try one more thing and open a paypal business account, just in case the issue is on paypals end. I would think that if there were an issue with my current paypal account, i would get some kind of notice. I have used it a day ago to make other purchases with no issues, but stranger things have happened. I know they have some kind of limit on number of transactions or dollar amount, but i have never been close to that figure.

I understand. They would say that because they charge a fee for those accounts so naturally they would want you to use that kind of account. And I have no issue signing up, doing it right now. But that doesnt explain why I have been using it just fine for the past months. PP police finally caught up?  :) Maybe all the test transactions tipped them off?

After creating a business paypal account, images are moving to the download area. Apparently I hit some sort of invisible wall on paypal, maybe all the small test transactions? I would have thought I would have been notified, but I am not at all surprised that paypal did not do that.

Leo, I apologize for all the time you spent on this issue and appreciate your checking it out. Maybe opening a paypal business account should be a requirement added to the list of things to do for an SY website. I know this was discussed here and I wasnt the only one using a personal account.

And thanks for everyone else's help. It is most appreciated, even if I make snippy comments along the way.  :-[

You are being notified of any limitations, if their is no warning on your PayPal account, you are not limited. It could well be by opening a new PP account, you have a different configuration that works. How you do you know you didnt tick a box on your old PayPal account you overlooked. Good to know it is resolved. And yes, if you take business payments, you need a business account. You are not supposed to take business payments on a personal account.

The last thing I did on my personal paypal account is remove the IPN info when Leo told me to. An address was in there from the very beginning of SY but because of changes along the way, that changed. I only knew that was a problem when I got an email from Paypal saying IPNs were not going through. I don't remember the date I did that, but I will go check the thread. I know I made a successful test purchase on 8-10-13, so I will see if those dates coincide.

I saw no need to open a new account when I have only made (technically) one sale in 4 months. When sales picked up, I was going to do that. You are right, creating the new account must have changed something. And really, all I did was do their initial signup. Didnt have to go to Profile > IPN notifications, because that's the step that's no longer needed by SY. Leo asked me about that yesterday and I double checked...it is not on with my personal account, but maybe turning it on and off jacked something up.

Best that I have the account set up now. No harm...if sales pick up, that will be a good thing. If they don't, I don't get charged anything, so really no loss.

I could have done that too but I'm ok with keeping them separate...I have a separate email address for each, and I never liked that the return link from paypal for SY had my personal email account...and if I change it for my SY site, then it doesnt make sense for the other things I do.

The last successful test purchase I made was on 8-10-13.

Here is the thread where I received the email from paypal saying IPNs were failing.

http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-technical-support/how-to-set-your-paypal-ipn-information-in-sy-theme-and-in-paypal/

It is dated 8-17-13. After I got that email, Leo said to delete and turn off the IPN in Paypal because SY handles it all. I turned it off. I confirmed that it was off yesterday in paypal. But perhaps that off-on-off setting is a problem in paypal?

Onward and upward.

I have 2 accounts, personal and business. I tried to receive payments from stocks to business account, but Paypal charged some % from every payment. Now all payments from agencies go to personal account, and business account  is only for my Symbiostock site.

No need for 2 accounts really.. I had just upgraded my personal account..

so now, its like 1 account for all purposes..

I have 2 accounts, personal and business. I tried to receive payments from stocks to business account, but Paypal charged some % from every payment. Now all payments from agencies go to personal account, and business account  is only for my Symbiostock site.

Mine is a premier account.. something in between business and personal.. I haven't checked account options in a long time so maybe premier account is no longer an option..

It's a type of business account recommended for individuals and I am not being charged at all when agencies pay me..

You are not being charged because the agencies use Mass payments, and then they have to pay the fee.

Do you think agencies using mass payment is news to me? :D

If you read the post above mine ajt said he was being charged because he was using a business account.. did agencies exclude him of mass payment :) obviously not..

I am not looking for an argument. I just wanted to help. It wasnt clear to me that you didnt know about mass payments, how am I supposed to know what you know? So you asked me if I thought that was news to you. And I answered your question, I dont know what you know. From the conversation I read I figured it was about payments from the agencies. Anyhoo, I'll leave you two discuss it, and be on my way. Cheers.

Vote down, really? Come on.

Hi all ;

In such busy schedule, manage to setup my SS site ( www.ephotobuy.com ) , as of now uploaded some test images , wanted to make sure payment and other options are working fine , i created premier paypal account ,  i cant not create business account  as it require details like registration of business name , business date , register PAN card with business details , so i preferred premier account ,  and after 20 days of verification due to strict rule formed by Indian regulatory , i got verified premier paypal account , once everything was setup i did test purchase from another Indian paypal account , and paypal had thrown long error message , in short " Indian Buyer can not send/receive/purchase from indian seller" :-( , means direct download will not work for indian buyer :-( , felt so frustrated  , then i asked friend of mine who is in UK if he can does test purchase , he did test purchase after test purchase image is not moved to download area it is still in CART area and he didn't receive payment mail as well from ephotobuy containing download link ,  after going through various thread in microstock group i landed here , and it looks like cathy was facing same issue because she was not having paypal business account , is it like this ? Paypal Premier account wont work , i though payment operation will not work with personal account and it will work with premier account ? shall i have to upgrade my paypal account to business account :-( ?

When I had the problem with that, I was using a personal paypal account. I opened a premier account and then all worked OK. I'm not sure if paypal detected all the test purchases i was making and decided I needed a premier account, or exactly what the problem was. Havent had any issues since.

A premier account should work just fine. It looks like you might be on the same version of SY theme as I am...2.6.5? Using Clean Theme child theme?

Here are some threads you might check:

And this person had issues with some plugins blocking paypal, so check that out too

You could also post your problem at the SY forum at symbiostock.org but most everyone posting there now is using a much later version, but hopefully someone might be able to help.

I remember when Ron tried to purchase an image from my site he had the same problem; Leo went in and fixed it somehow. I'd suggest asking at the Symbiostock forum.

Glad you figured it out! A general rule of thumb...if you have problems, turn off plugins and test. If it works, start adding plugins back and test after each one or two to narrow down the culprit.
