Here's one issue I've noticed some time ago but it wasn't on top of my priorities.

When an unregistered visitor adds an image to the shopping cart and gets the message to log in or register for purchasing the image - the shopping cart will not save that image with the registration.

Let's say somebody surfs the website, likes an image and wants to purchase it. He puts it into the cart and then needs to register an account. After registration the image he wanted is not in the cart which means he needs to start over searching for it. He'll probably be annoyed and maybe angry to lose the results of his research.

Or am I the only one noticing this?

I kind of disagree.
1. I don't think there is any website out there where somebody can purchase something without some kind of registration. And to be honest, the WP/SYS registration which requires only a user name and an email address (or a Facebook/Google+/Twitter) is pretty much the most comfortable registration ever.
2. If you don't have an account/registration the client will have no way to retrieve/check/re-download his purchase later again. I can already see people complaining about having paid good money and then having lost a file or an email link etc.

But with most e-commerce sites, the registration and purchase screen is often the same. If you try to buy from a Symbiostock site, you have to register, and then you have to enter your personal info for Paypal. That's two registrations.

What I don't understand are the people who want the registration to be forced on every website. Those of us who don't want it simply want it as an option. If it's an option, then each website can determine if they feel the registration is necessary or not.

That's why I added the WordPress Social Login so potential buyers can log in with their Twitter or Yahoo account info.

Buyers have to have some sort of account with the Smybiostock site they purchase from, just because they might need to re-download an image because they accidentally deleted or whatever. I just don't want them to feel that they "have to" create an account with me, so I give them the choice to use another social login.

I'm a little bit behind when it comes to social networks. When I visited certain websites I never understood why I had the option to use my Yahoo or Twitter login credentials to log in. I felt like it was a phishing scam or something.

I'm still afraid that some buyers might feel this way about my social login on my Symbiostock site  :P

Well, I'll try as much as I can to make it "smoothly"...

I agree with a lot you say, but I dont agree with this.

The PayPal login is always there, for every site you buy from. I need to login to Adobe to buy LR5 and then I need to login to PayPal as well to pay for it.

The problem I am having is with the wait for the password to be emailed to you. That needs to be changed asap as that is a killer.

However, when I did a test purchase for someone here I got that email with in a second. Still its cumbersome.

There are few coupon websites like Groupon in Asia that don't need you to sign-up. Just click, add and pay usin PayPal. It is fast. The only difference is that they email the coupon to the email address. We can't go back and download it. So as a customer I know what I am doing

How about a plugin that gives the customer the option of registering?
The benefit is that they can save their files.

There are plenty of 'retail' sites around that don't require registration. I've purchased from many and always appreciate the easy, hassle free shopping experience.

you can use most travel sites to buy airline tix, hotels, rent a car, etc  without registering on the site - why are we scaring away buyers with this extra registration step, esp'ly with the separate email confirmation - none of this gives any security since the registration has no connection to any payment info.

for those who don't register, they still get the email with download info; if they lose that, it's easily re-sent

we have a variety of sellers and a variety of business models & expectations -- some of us want to have buying be an impulse purchase - see it, click it, download it -- with all the registration hassles I know i'd just find somewhere easier to shop.  those who want to require registration can still do so, but no need to tie that albatross to all sym site owners

@cascoly

When was the last time you booked an airline ticket, rental car or hotel room? You have to submit more personal data than when applying for a job as a school bus driver.

With you/us being the owner of the merchandise/service on a Symbiostock site the customer only has to submit an email address. That's it. Period.
There is no easier ordering/purchasing process that will at the same time guarantee that the customer can access his merchandise at any time.

And BTW, how do you check if a customer has purchased an image when he isn't registered and then claims to have lost it?
