I haven't been able to use the uploader for a few days.

I can't seem to update wordpress or any of the plugins installed. Neither can I install any plugins?
Can anyone help?

I'm on blue host

If your site is crashed then you woudn't be able to see it.

The uploader issue I don't quite understand. You say (last time you told me) it worked before but not now? Anyone else seeing this?

If your having a problem seeing your plugins or installing them, you might have a problem with some plugin which is getting in the way. Normally I'd say deactivate all plugins and reactivate one at a time to see the problem...but if you can't see the plugins in the first place?!

Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.5.2-partial-1.zip

Unpacking the update

The problems you mention are probably from the same root issue - permissions. If you go into your cpanel and into the file manager your wp-content folder should have permissions 777 (far right).

Let me know how it looks :D

When I select File manager in Cpanel I get a menu to choose directorys:
I chose the webroot directory and then the permissions for wp-content was 0755.
Do you want me to change to it to 777 or 0777 ?

Most of them are 0755 or 0644

aww permissions... an on-going issue with which apps own which files.

If you are having this trouble set the folders to 777 do the upgrade THEN SET THEM BACK .... 777 gives the world the power to change everything.

Hmmm, ...permission of my WP/SY folders is 0755, files have 0644. Everything works fine here AFAIK.

I have not had a problem with my Wordpress site, but in the past I have had problems with other software installs.  It is around ownership.  With 755 the "owner" of the folder can access it to make changes, but other couldn't.  In my case the upgrader was not considered an owner so it would not work.

I do not know if this is the problem here, or how to fix it... just relating an experience I had in the past.  There is so much to know, and so few brain cells to know it with... :)

Changed the permissions of the WP-content folder to 777 and still getting same error. Updates of Wordpress not allowed or updates of plugins, uploader still not working.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

I am on bluehost and just upgraded to wordpress 3.5.2 with no hitches. I have never had to change permissions or anything else with my site. I might suggest calling bluehost support. They have always been very helpful for me. I don't know what's wrong, but i would guess and say that maybe your wordpress installation isn't correct. Tell them what is going on and they can probably help you sort it out.

I would also suggest calling Bluehost support.  In the beginning I had problems with the WP install and I called them.  In less than 10 minutes they processed everything on their end and I haven't had a problem since then.  I also just did the upgrade to the new version of WP and didn't have any problems.  I've always had good results with their support services.

I went on live chat with them and they replaced one of the core files, all seems to be fine now. Still cant upload with uploader but can use FTP so its not really an issue. I can update the site though now . Thanks for your help

Great! I always call on the phone, never had luck with live chat, but whatever works! You might be out of the US, so phone support might not be an option. As far as the uploader...what happens there, what do you mean you still cant upload with the uploader? Can you see the uploader? Can you add files? Do they just not process? I installed a plugin that made the uploader disappear, so had to remove that plugin and use something else. If you would like to fix the uploader, give a few more details and maybe someone can point you to a solution there.
