OK, I'm starting to lose track of what's happening.

For some reason I'm getting emails from Symbiostock about upgrades of one of my networking sites. I've never seen that before.

Then I notice that the 2.4.7 update is not even available in my Wordpress theme admin menu.

Do I have to download this 2.4.7 update from Symbiostock.com from now on?

Will theme updates not be supported from within Wordpress anymore?

Some information would be much appreciated!

As far as I know nothing is changing with how updates will be provided in the future, but Leo did post this http://www.symbiostock.com/symbiostock-2-4-5-email-and-paypal-bugs-fixed-important-update/ and in the comments it looks like a bit of trouble shooting was involved.

I think while he is trying to fix these last few big bugs things may be a little up in the air today.  I'm sure he'll pop in when he's able to with an update.

2.4.7 update should now be showing as a theme update in your wordpress admin area.

I'm not complaining about the fact that there are updates. I just got confused by the amount of updates and why they don't show in the Wordpress admin panel while the update is available on the .com web site.

I think there might be a small delay between when an update is posted and when it shows up in the  dashboard and with that many updates that quickly it got a little confusing, it should be all good now though.

It works like this - literally -

2.4.4 (how many weeks old is this one?) Leo's super-computer is seeing meltdowns due to hawaii heat,  faulty ram, and possibly a power supply that does not work properly. Leo downlscales hosting on his 4 year established 4500 image site, only to find that it regularly crashes the over-rated VPS hosting of inmotion.

2.4.5
After cramming code for a few days on a slightly repaired computer that only locks up three times a day (and a stablized dedicated server to test on) he is able to finally enter a few environments to test issues on and isolate problems. Among these, he accidentally creates a minor one which causes crashes.

2.4.6 After people crash their site once - thread posts start spawning and Leo quickly updates some things. Sadly, negative publicity is far more viral than the great success of seeing our godaddy friends finally working (a which indeed bodes well for everyone else)...

2.4.7 Leo discovers that in some cases image downloads can be un-reachable in certain areas like the paypal IPN script. Unknown to everyone, that repair is dished out first thing in the morning.

2.4.8 Coming tonight - we cover even more scenerios where an IPN might fail.

So everyone else's job is simple: Click the update button, remember we've been moving forward. Its just not fun without a white screen or two.

Also something to keep in mind - This is a free solution attempting to become the best solution, with only at tops 4 people actively adding to its code. As one person said "The best 11 dollars I ever made..." it can be quite satisfying to get a sale without losing 80% of it to a false sense of security and success.

Last week I did $60 on my site, and this is an extremely slow time and my site took a huge SEO hit from the downtime. I don't say that to brag - but all if this just exists as a reminder - this might be free but if you compare it to the expensive options (which may not even give the same results) its worth the patience.

Last I knew, unless things changed, Tinny's site has an issue with IPN. Probably one of the few left. So hopefully this release will fix that.

Leo and the three Musketeers saving the day!

You guys are doing great!

Will the upcoming updates also require a de-activate/activate routine or will it be enough to just press the update button?

This few times yes - this theme is really getting solidified now with all the possible cases of errors. This is a very happy time. Literally I feel like its the end of the bug road (except for the small ones :D)

Ha, this might be the end of the bug-road but it will lead to several consecutive massive 6 lane highways for your to conquer.

Thank you Leo. Apologies if I came across too negative. I am still happy with it all. And I will definitely purchase some paid plugins. Thanks again

This was a product of everyone's work and with the amount of work involved on a system this complicated its quite nice that its come this far without any real issues. At this point its crossing the finish line of on completeness and everyone can be happy with a job well done.

I got used to waking up to find new releases and really missed it when the theme became stable and they were no longer deemed necessary (how sad is that  :)  )

I see new releases as a challenge to find out what more they can do,  I am also VERY impressed with the speed at which Leo gets a second (third) release out in a day when something has been accidentally changed in the first one.  Has anyone actually looked at some of this coding?  Just one item missing or out of place can "break" things so I think he has done a fabulous job, especially as we are getting it for free - have you seen the prices of some of the other themes around that only have the very basics, barely enough to get you started before you need to pay for more plug-ins.

How do I turn the theme and off and on?

Activate other theme, for example "Twenty Eleven", then activate Symbiostock, and then Symbiostock Child theme, if you have it installed.

So where is the SymbioStock update button? When I updated to 2.4.7 I downloaded it, deleted 2.4.5 from the site, uploaded 2.4.7, activated it, and finally activated the child theme. Is this the way to do it or is there a semi-automatic update button somewhere?

Go to Dashboard, top left, and Updates. If an update is ready there will be a number in a circle there. Click on Updates, then you can just use the update theme. But if you update to 2.4.8, you can use that process, but you then have to go to Appearance>Themes, activate Twenty Ten (or any other theme), then reactivate your child theme. How you did it is OK, too.

Thanks, that was a bit easier! For some reason I never thought to click the Dashboard button.

A number in a circle usually shows up in the top black bar too which also means updates.

Yea I know that but up until now mine displayed a 1 for another plugin even though I had upgraded it so I did not bother with it. Finally that offending plugin is reading correct so all is good.
