Title: Symbiostock / Plugin Compatability Issues and Reports
Post by: Leo Blanchette on June 28, 2013, 22:42
This is a thread to report issues with Symbiostock and plugin compatibility. So far it seems Symbiostock does not have many compatibility issues.

We can use these reports to make the theme more standardized to play well, but other times the plugins themselves are quirky or incompatible by nature.

Please report them here along with solutions if there are any.

WP-Super Cache - http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/ (http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/)

Very helpful for when your site gets big and you have traffic. It will significantly help your site.

Customers will have trouble with cached pages that should remain dynamic. Like the cart area.

If you go to the "advanced" tab you will see this description:

Quote
Add here strings (not a filename) that forces a page not to be cached. For example, if your URLs include year and you dont want to cache last year posts, it’s enough to specify the year, i.e. ’/2004/’. WP-Cache will search if that string is part of the URI and if so, it will not cache that page.

My cart area address for instance is this:
http://www.clipartillustration.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/ (http://www.clipartillustration.com/customer-licence-and-file-management-area/)

So in the box I could take from the url customer-licence-and-file-management-area and simply paste that

 - the Caching plugin will leave that page "dynamic" and so your customers won't always go to their cart saying "Where is the stuff I added!!!" or worse come back to it and wonder "Where is the stuff I bought!"

There are also things I will write into the theme to make this plugin more compatible since its a wordpress standard solution to site speed and resource saving.

An extremely  useful tool for blocking all sorts of spammers:
Bad Behavior: http://wordpress.org/plugins/bad-behavior/ (http://wordpress.org/plugins/bad-behavior/)

It will sometimes block paypal - especially the paypal developer functions of doing "test" transactions.

Here are some directions for allowing Paypal to get through to your IPN script:

Super Cache - added it, no idea why except Leo recommended it as I don't have a clue - the timestamps were both the same when testing so I assume everything is okay?

Do you have to add wp-content/cache/.htaccess only if you enable Mod Rewrite Caching or add it anyway

Hi Tinny - On the easy tab I selected "caching on" and on the advanced tab I selected "Use PHP to serve cache files."  That's all I changed.  Not sure if that's correct or not.  I read that you only need to change the .htaccess file if you use Mod Rewrite caching.

I'm not sure about all the other settings.

Leo, if super cache is preventing downloads the way it did on your site how could it be good :)

You know I couldn't download the file from your site and you said it was because "super cache" was on.. ?

Edit: I am on a smart phone and only read the first part of your post before replying.. just read the rest..

Currently, is it safe to use it with 2.4.8 or should we wait for future releases..

Problem with:
Clean and Simple Contact Form and Symbiostock

Solution was the author rewrote part of the code, since Symbiostock email plug in didn't play nice....

I'm going to try to get Symbiostock to stop altering emails except when its using it in own context. Thanks for mentioning.

Hi Leo,

1. By using the plugin 'CodeStyling Localization (http://wordpress.org/plugins/codestyling-localization/)' or similars, a great plug-in for translating and creating a .po/.mo files, I have noticed that a lot of texts in the theme aren't connect with "gettext". One example in .php file: ("No Results found. Try browsing the categories.") . So for multi-language site, need to edit directly into the code, and sometimes it is hard to accept plugins such as qTranslate, xLanguage, etc.

2. My image categories aren't sorting by name nor by slug. Not sure if it is a bug here, but IMHO more logical by sorting by name or make the admin opt to sort the order by slug or name. Besides that when making a multi-language site, the input fields should accept special characters (tags/special code) used by plugins like qtranslate, xLanguage, and others to get translations the content of the field. So admins would make the site get to sort the categories in any language. Well, anyway, the sort by slug isn't happening here in my theme version 2.9.9 with WP 3.8. It doesn't matter what I change in slug the order keeps the same. It really seems to keep the order based on ID#. As I got to check by using the plug-in 'Reveal IDs'.

Thanks and have a great week.
