For some reason, I've got a single description ("category for insect images") showing in my Menu bar. None of the other categories show that, and I don't want it.
Can somebody tell me how to get that *^$&%# description out of there? What could possibly be different in the the "Bugs" category setup?
Here's the link: http://bestnaturestock.com/ (http://bestnaturestock.com/)
Thanks!

Try looking through your menu widget in the WP dashboard Appearance>Menus
/wp-admin/nav-menus.php

Thanks for that suggestion, Ron.
I did check the widget menu. The descriptive text magically appeared by itself (I didn't write it) in the description field for those five "no parent" category names. I removed it from all those fields and thought that would solve the problem. It didn't.
Actually, as of tonight I've doubled my problem. Now there are two, not one, "no parent" category buttons with that unnecessary "description" stuck under them.
You can see the situation here: http://bestnaturestock.com/ (http://bestnaturestock.com/)
This happened with the two categories that I redid today (Bugs & Beasts), but not with the ones I redid a couple of days ago Plants & Places), so I must have done something different. Unfortunately, I can't see anything different in those settings.
And when I revise the last category (Birds) tomorrow, I'm sure it will also be "improved" with that description. Aaarghhh!
Leo and Amanda... if you happen to spot this and have an suggestion for me, I'd appreciate your input. Or anybody else's.
Thanks, all!

Hi Martha, can you make me a temporary account, I'll log in and take a look. I think it's probably just an added description in the menu settings.

Go to
Appearance
Menus
Then look down your menu list, click on the tiny dowm arrow next to where the offending item says image categories
Keep navigation label, delete text from the other boxes

Thanks, Amanda and Christine. I appreciate the help!
Amanda, I'll PM you.
Christine, I've already deleted all the extraneous text from the Menu items and saved. Can't find the "offending" text anywhere except on the home page, where it persists.

Martha, have you some cache enabled ?

Martha, how did you create the category? I also made the same mistake. You need to go to Royalty Free images-> image categories. Create over here. Once created go to appearance->menus. You will see the image category added under "image categories". Select that and click add to menu.
Have you used custom links?

I think Nikd90 is right.
You're probably linking to a Post Category instead of an image category. Your "description" is probably the slug that got generated when you created that post category. Solution: delete the unnecessary post categories, create image categories instead in link to them in your custom menu.

Not sure what that means, but I don't think so. ???

I *think* I did the current set-up through Image Categories. Previously did use Page Categories, so maybe there's some remnant persisting from that. I'll check it again now.
Much appreciated!

Will try that. Muchas gracias! :-)

Christine had the right answer here, there was just one little thing, the description box wasn't showing on Martha's menu screen. That can be turned on in screen options which you will find a drop down arrow for in the top right corner of your Appearance > Menu page. Then you tick the "Description" box and follow Christine's advice above. I took a couple screen shots of where to turn this on:

And here is where you can edit or delete descriptions:

But that begs the question: How did that text get in there in the first place?
-
YES!!!!
Hooray for the Amazing Amanda, who has come through once again! And hooray for Christine too. If only I'd known how to find that pesky little Description tick box...
I've decided that a big part of "mastering SYS" (if in fact I ever do that) is figuring out where all the control-bells and whistles and special tick-boxes and options, etc, are located. WP seems to stash them in lots of different places. Would be nice if all the controls were located in one central spot, but maybe there's a reason why it's not that way.
Anyway... once again my site is nice and clean, thanks to Amanda's savvy and willingness to pitch in and help us all learn more about this system.

Yes, that's a very good question. Especially since I didn't enter the text to begin with.
Gremlins in the system?? Hmmmmm.
-
That IS a good question :D I have no clue honestly, but I'll poke around. I suspect it has something to do with whether you add descriptions when you create new categories and then add them to the menu. You can create these little descriptions for any of your menu items if you want to, it's sort of an "extra" feature of WordPress that Leo has enabled in the Symbiostock theme. Some themes have it others don't, so even if you are used to the WordPress menu system it might be new to you.

That's the case with me, Amanda. I have 3 other WP websites based on 2 other themes, and I've never seen this pop up in one of those.
In a way, this is the "genius" of Word Press. So many ways to use it. So many things clever people can do with it. But it does take a while to figure out all the new wrinkles that get introduced.
Anyway... thanks again, kiddo.

Thats the coolest text smiley I've ever seen
