It appears that titles don't get searched. It also looks like the search is VERY picky - exact match only.
For example, the search for "farm", doesn't return a result for an image with the keyword of "farmer".
It looks like keyword phrases don't work either. An image with a keyword phrase of "farmers market" does not get found when searching for "farmers", "market" or "farmers market". After updating that image with the single keywords of "farmers" and "market", it still does not get found when searching those keywords UNLESS you also remove the two word keyword phrase of "farmers market".

I agree that those search issues are problematic and I'm sure Leo will have a fix in mind.
However, won't most searches come in from the internet via Google, and it is how they search the information that makes the difference in the short term. Once you have some loyal buyers, the local search will make a big difference.

I haven't found quite that. If I search on new zealand I get images with the two separate keywords, whether or not they have the two word version. Putting double quotes round the words in the box gives a search on "\\\"new Zealand\\\"" which matches nothing!
Certainly we'll need some improvements to the search for the future.

Try adding the keyword phrase "new zealand" to an image and see what you get for results.

Am I correct to assume that Symbio utilizes the WordPress search?
A Google search of "WordPress search sucks" brings a lot of results of articles on how to improve the search function.

I think the search of symbiostock does NOT use the default wordpress search, that is the blog search.. from what you have described, I think that Leo is using wordpress "tags" as keywords of the images.. tags only return the exact match and it is always only one word..
if you copy and paste your keywords into description field, you will see better search results and it will find phrases like "farmers market"..
easier than what I described here, try posting a blog article with all those keywords and search "the blog".. search results will be much better..

Good info cidepix, thanks.

It uses a custom taxonomy, but is more flexible than default search in that it handles multiple keywords. Will be expanded to include title and description words like my other site. Everything will gradually be built up. From here on time-to-progress=manpower=number-of-people.
The best expectation for symbiostock is that it will be built up gradually until its hard to find anything substandard. How gradually = time-to-progress=manpower=number-of-people...etc.

That was my starting point - nothing is returned for any search based on those words.
In fact, when the keyword is split, new zealand works, with or without quotes, so it's much the same as Alamy's search engine.

Wait - if you have a keyword "new zealand" it should work - case insensitive. If you have "new" "zealand" that should also work.
If not, I'll check into it.
Soon search results will display all title and description stuff excluding stopwords. It will be case-insensitive and get parts of words too. So if you have wonderbread as a keyword "bread" will show up. Easy stuff...just annoying and time consuming to write queries.
If you check out my site at www.clipartillustration.com (http://www.clipartillustration.com) thats how it works.

Hey, aren't you supposed to be on vacation?

Yeah, I am. Officially I'm taking off everything after sunday. But when I logged in and saw more problem threads...either I solve it or people walk away with broken themes. Hopefully today fixes it, because it seems a lot of people are up and running - so really the last problem is HOSTING which I hope someone starts a thread on - "Symbiostock Ideal Hosting" with a list of non-problematic environments and start-up instructions.
The more people can take over for me the better.

Have a look at Travelling Light (http://photo.travelling-light.net). There are 3 images keyworded with 'New Zealand' and one of them has 'new' and 'zealand' as well. I can only get the Milford Sound one, searching with any form of 'new zealand'.
Clicking on a two-word keyword on an image display page searches on the slug, with a hyphen, so returns nothing.

Right now, i have just one image on line. I run a simple search and everything looks fine. Search for "bird" and file was found. Nice!

Wait...you mean your not reporting a problem? Wow, kinda took me by surprise.
