Not complaining about rejections here first off. Every site has their criteria but i would like to know how to improve/get accepted.

These images that were rejected are on a lot of other sites including DT & SS.

So my question is: are veer different from the above sites so much that i have to rethink my design approach and cater for them specifically?

Reason for non-approval:

"Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time. You are welcome to submit 10 new images. Nice illustrations, but a majority of your submission was not compatible with the Veer aesthetic."

Taking that on board i looked through a few live images and found it to be a different 'feel' to the usual. What veer has to offer almost boarders (or IS) more like an art gallery and those images probably wouldn't get approved on the 'other' sites.

Any tips from those 'veer approved' welcome.

Can you provide links to the 10 that you submitted? It might help us give you a bit of direction.

Don't wanna be rude, but looking through your portfolios of the other agenices it seems, that your whole image portfolio has no more than 10-30 pictures in it.
In your position i would concentrate only on 1 agency, go exclusive and establish a portfolio that provides regular payouts. You should concentrate on producing images than adding new agencies with a tiny portfolio.
In my opinion it makes no sense at all having dozens of agencies that never will reach the payout limit based on your small portfolio.

kaarsten: Yes my port is small.. but hoping it will grow. Already put a lot of thought in the exclusive issue and it's because it's a small port (for now) that it has to be spread over a wider area to get noticed. Otherwise i would have lost out on half the sales this month. The $5 made after 2 weeks of being with graphicleftovers wouldn't have happened if i had stayed with say, DT or SS.

What do you mean "never reach the payout limit?"  ;D Never say never. Im starting small but thinking big  8)  ;D

elvinstar: It was pretty much a selection of what you see on my page; http://www.dreamstime.com/Devonsun_info

.. the mp3s, balloon silhouette, camera lens, search light city, girl in dress silhouette, USA healthcare etc :)

Yes, they are much different. With over 800 images approved on other sites, it took me two months to get 100 approved at Veer. My rejection rate was somewhere around 60%. After I got them approved, I had 3 sales in about 6 months.

I can't really tell you what they are looking for, never figured it out for myself. I know they rejected my top sellers, which led me to believe they were looking for fresh ideas that hadn't already been downloaded from other sites. I think they tend to lean toward the artsy side. I am thinking the equivalent of Vetta on IS. But I could be wrong. Cruise their site and look for the best sellers, that may (or may not) give you a clue. A lot of us here never did figure out what they were looking for.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the input, cclapper.

At least i'm not the only one. I'll do as you say and browse more to try to figure out what it is they are looking for. Looks like i will have to change my approach to get in with Veer.

Well second attempt at getting approved on Veer failed. This time some kind of error with the files?! Which is odd as they are uploading everywhere else without a problem.

Wonder if it will be worth contacting Veer to see if they can give any feedback on what the exact problem is?

"Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time. You are welcome to submit 10 new images. We are unable to open these files to view them at full size. Files contain an error."

I've tried twice and failed !  My images are mainly isolated object shots, and they obviously don't want them !!  :(

I won't try again, unless I undergo a change in style !  :)

i think Veer is looking more for artistic images than normal microstock images, like cclapper wrote, they want more Vetta like images

I've been accepted at Veer a month ago. I uploaded vectors (and didn't upload .jpg preview, just the vector file with RGB color profile), and all the previews has weird colors. I wrote to support and they told me to upload my own preview to solve this problem. Now I don't know if it is worth the effort because I just looked at my port there, and 0 views/0 sales in 1 month. I wasn't expecting much sales, but 0 views? Also my images still don't show up in search...

yes i think more arty types images is the way to go with Veer. I'll post back if i ever get accepted but that will be closer to christmas at this rate! :)

zsooofija: what size is your port on Veer?

It's only 9 vectors (one of the first 10 was rejected). I didn't upload more because of this preview issue and because of the lack of views... I would post my port here, but I have no idea how to do that.

oh well such a small number of images.. i really wouldn't concern yourself over the view count just yet.

Had very few views on yaymicro and canstock until i got over 50 images up with them. Now they are getting more interest and sales too so i would wait til you have a few more on before judging if it's worthwhile or not.

Yes, you are right.. The views doesn't count (especially with such a small port), but if my images doesn't show up in search I don't see how I could get sales over there (even with more images).

Maybe you haven't activate your account, check in Workspace and on left below big Workspace text check what you need to activate, i have that problem and Veer support told me about that

Thanks. I went to Workspace and filled in some information about me (that was missing) and the tax-form. But now I don't see any activate button, or anything. On the "Approved(9)" tab it says: 'These files have run the approval gauntlet and are (or will soon be) available for customers to purchase online through Veer Marketplace. ' But that was there before sending the tax-form...

50-60% rejection rate, reject images 13 other sites inc IS accept. I accept that every site is different and think I've got it pretty much sorted for most sites, just cant work out what veer want, at this stage it seems to be incredibly inconsisent. Like others said I beginning to think they are looking more for macrostock style etc

My tip is never to get aboard this sinking ship. I'm sorry I wasted my time uploading.

My tip is never to get aboard this sinking ship. I'm sorry I wasted my time uploading.

I'm glad I didn't. Didn't smell right from the start.

Just another agency with it's head in the clouds, either in search of the fabled 'middle ground' and/or believing (wrongly) that customers will be prepared to pay vastly more for someone else to do their editing for them. Of course a half-decent search engine like IS, SS & FT have automatically sorts the wheat from the chaff anyway and lets the buyers decide which images are worth their time.

Bizarrely DT seem to be slowly slipping down this well-proven path to destruction too. I've 'edited' my content for DT by just not uploading to them __ saves a lot of time for all.

Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but my advice is to concentrate your efforts in producing better images instead of thinking about joining a lot of agencies.
Your images just don't "cut it" for me, and the same propably applies to Veer reviewers (and buyers)

I've had pretty good luck with acceptance from Veer but a lot of my stuff is a bit outside of the norm (I shoot primarily underwater and HDR). That being said, Veer is BY FAR my worst earner (and I'm not kidding....something like $2.80 in 6 months!!) With hindsight, I should have never taken the time to upload. It's funny how my attitude has changed with all of this. At first, I basically carpet bombed as many agencies as I could with images, thinking it was a good choice because if I earned a little on each site it would add up. Now my entire focus is what was mentioned in an earlier post: Create the best portfolio I can and scrap the low earners with a goal of going exclusive with  single site. And Veer will be the first to go. Good Luck!

Wandering off the Veer issue, but you may need to reconsider your keywording also.
I looked at your image 'Devon Gull' on iStock.
You have listed several incompatible locations (the correct one only should be listed); other words which are irrelevant to the photo like fish, salt water fish, tourism, coastline, and several keywords of the type iStock doesn't like, for example feather and beak (99.% of birds have feathers and beaks: you should only use these keywords if the feather or beak are specific features of the mate.)
As the others say, work on growing your ports on your existing agencies. And remember that keywords are really important. Think of it this way, if someone did a search on 'fish' or even 'feather', how likely is your image to meet that wish?

I like your Addicted to Tobacco vector on IS, but to point out how utterly inconsistant all the sites are...you are using isolated as a keyword there, yet there is a shadow underneath. Nothing at all wrong with that, but when I have an isolated object with a slight shadow under the object, I get a rejection for "edges to rough" and that whole nonsense.

It took me a couple of tries to get my first 10 accepted at Veer. After uploading over 100 photos and only having a couple of downloads in several months, I closed my account. My style of photography is just not artistic-y at this point.

I had the same problem with Veers but my last upload to them was 3000x2400 @ 300dpi,figure this was a good size but I was wrong, they where rejected for pixelation. Was this a good size or not?
