Title: Anyone sells at Veer yet?
Post by: Freedom on March 26, 2009, 12:09
Just wonder if anyone has made any sales through Veer yet?

Hmm, I got email from SV today that they finally going to review my DVD I sent couple weeks ago so it probably means I will not be transferred anytime soon :-(

There's any way of finding out sales info yet.
Wish there was.

I think they will report once a month until the site is fully functional

Zeus is correct.

Until the transition is complete later this spring/summer and Veer Marketplace is fully up-and-running, sales reports will be delivered once a month. Once the site is fully functional contributors will have live access to sales/stats/royalty info.

Beyond the obvious (# of sales / views / et al) - are there particular stats and reporting metrics that you find most helpful?

Veer's been live for almost five weeks now - when can we expect our first sales reports?

Brian, it will be helpful if the contributors are allowed to edit the keywords.

When the full version rolls out the ability to see total dollars made per individual image would be a good stat. I agree with Freedom on keyword editing.

Please post some sort of notice when everything is up and running.  I will be looking forward to submitting when the Veer site is fully functional :)

Hi sharply_done,

Due to the late start - February sales/royalty reports have been rolled into March. You'll be receiving the combined report via email soon after the close of the month - no later than end of day on Tuesday the 7th.

Not bad at all for the first month really, ahead of FT, StockXpert, IS.
Title: Re: Anyone sells at Veer yet?

A bit disappointing for me: 48 sales earning $92.10 on 2600 images - I was hoping for at least double that. This places them about 50% below 123RF, and in seventh place for earnings.

On the bright side, the $/DL is good ($1.92, no ELs), and I won't have to wait 1.1/2 months to get the money - it'll be in my PayPal account on the 15th. Also, they've only just entered into this marketplace, and I hope sales will grow.

^^ Is this better than when your images were just at SnapVillage?

I sold 16 images for $23.40, which is better than what I was making through Snapsvillage.

I had stopped uploading to SV a while ago, but think I will start uploading to Veer Marketplace if sales continue to grow.

Thanks Brian :-)

Will I need to sign up at Veer before my Snap pics are transfered or will an account be set up automatically? Any idea on the time frame for transfers to be complete?

Hi tsmarkley -

We encourage you to go ahead and sign-up on Veer.com now so you can participate on Veer Ideas and the Marketplace Group. But if you choose not to - an account will be set up automatically.

While the account transitions are ongoing - we'll be announcing further details of the transition (including more specific timing) soon.

Upon signing up, can one upload photos and make sales?
Title: Re: Anyone sells at Veer yet?

hey Brian, my question is somewhat diff. With the existing account in SV. Are buyers from Veers getting to look at our images already there on SV,  or  are SV images a separate entity UNTIL  they all get transferred to Veers?
Personally, it's no big deal if Veers buyers are already looking at our images there with SV. but if Veers buyers only see what's on Veers, then it's a different story... and not a good one for those waiting to be transferred from SV.
look fwd to your answer, cheers !

I don't understand why it takes months upon months to move everything over. Seems like the typical Snapvillage half-ass everything method. I was hoping that things were finally changing.

I think that they have to re-review everything as I believe was said earlier that standars will be higher than previously on SV..

For me it will come down to how easy or difficult it is to upload. Snapvillage was WAY to difficult to upload to.....I'm amazed that some of you uploaded 2000+ images on this system....(more power to you :) )  If the upload process and Model release attachment process is easy....then I will probably be willing to take a chance and upload my 3000+ images.  I only uploaded about 40 to Snapvillage, because it took way to much time....I did make about $20 on those photos, but it just took too much time to upload.

Hopefully they will create a streamline process to get photos onto the site.   :)

Brian,   what will your upload process be like.....especially the model release attachment method???

It doesn't really matter now but the SV method was certainly no more difficult than a lot of the other sites. FTP would get the images to a site with ease but then you had screw around placing releases, selecting useless categories, acknowledging you indeed understand and agree to an agreement most likely to change against you, on and on. With SV the trick was to have it running in a separate window off to the side and have releases in the same folder as the images your uploading. I praise any site that doesn't make you pick those dang categories.

I didn't really mind the SV upload process at all. As Zeus mentioned, I did this in almost part-time fashion with another browser window opened to the side of what I was doing at the time. I'd upload anywhere from 10 to 50 images each day, spending only a few minutes on it, and in a couple of months my backlog was gone. It was quite painless once I figured out how to avoid the site's limitations (large files and keywords with quotation marks, mostly). I don't understand the people who refused to upload to SV simply because it lacked FTP - some of them with rather small portfolios.

They changed my keywords and left some essential ones out, so I couldn't find my own images back. So didn't buyers since how you can find a palm tree as main subject if the rekeywording genius deletes "palm" and "tree"? They waited months to add a decent watermark. There were no views. There was no real development, except the blog that kept stating that the features asked for would come "soon". I gave them up after a year and a view count of 4 on the keyword-tampered shots. They had that LuckyOliver style of predictable failure on prozac. I deleted all shots except 3 a long time ago.

If Veer didn't fire all their management and programmers(?), it will be just the same.

I'm not sure about your overall knowledge of the market but I think your only hoping this will happen so you  don't feel too silly for deleting your images. SV is owned by Corbis which is owned by Gates. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right equation but comparing it to LO is too simplistic. The resources available-- financially, organizationally and artistically -- are immense.

Of course I know that, and I also happen to know who Gates is. I've seen him 20+ years ago at Comdex, Vegas, where he was a little boy next to Borland and DEC. ;-)

Everybody kept saying that, how deep the pockets of Gates and Corbis were. But when you see how crappy the programming and approach of SV was for over a year, and they later were expelled to Ireland, you can only conclude that SV was the black sheep in the Corbis family and Gates wasn't interested in it at all. It was flawed technically from the start, and it didn't get any better.

In fact they don't like to tell it but it was phased out and Veer will take up the market concept of microstock. They try to make it sound nice, like "absorbing", of course, that's part of the soft corporate newspeak. Let's just hope they can get their stuff together by November, as they promised "fall". Wait and see. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Till now there has been a lot of talk about the pudding, how good it will taste.

Many good agencies work through Ireland and have for a long time, I'm too sure why, maybe the tax advantages, but I don't think it's a situation of exile or anything like that. What I don't think wise is to paint every site with the same brush. I think some, although performing poorly now, have better long term prospects. In the end, it is up to all of use to individually judge where their efforts are best served, and that may include leaving agencies that perform reasonably well while sticking around with what look like losers. There is still plenty of shaking out that is going to occur with microstock sites and the titans of the day may end up pan handling in the future to get by.
