Title: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
Post by: Brian O'Shea on June 08, 2009, 12:49
Veer Marketplace Opens for New Submissions!

We’re excited to announce that as of today, June 8th, Veer Marketplace is now open and accepting submissions!

This means you can now sign-up and apply to become a Veer Marketplace contributor. Once you pass an “entrance exam” (submit 10 of your best shots for our editors to examine) and then complete royalty and tax information --- you’ll be ready to start uploading your full portfolio.

By submitting your content now, you’ll be sure to have completed the approval process and to be in the system so your portfolio is ready to go for the buyer-focused launch in mid-summer.

We’ve designed the Veer Marketplace ingest and upload workflow to help you submit efficiently and to help you keyword effectively.

Some of the features we’re especially eager to show you:

•   Support for FTP or advanced HTTP web-upload
•   Metadata and model and property releases can be attached to multiple images at once – real-live batch processing capability!
•   Model and property releases can be stored in the system and applied to future image uploads
•   Powerful controlled vocabulary and keyword auto-mapping system automatically accommodates spelling variants, common misspellings and synonyms, and includes broader search terms. This gives you more efficient, consistent, and accurate keywording. For example, if a contributor adds the term “happy” to their image, the system automatically adds more than a dozen other terms such as “happiness”, “cheerful”, “emotion”, and “good mood”.
•   Automatic creation of preview images in JPEG format for images uploaded in EPS format, such as illustrations. This means faster and more accurate uploads for vector artists.
•   You’ll have the option of selecting between PayPal and Payoneer as payment options during sign-up. If you decide to go with Payoneer, in the next few weeks following sign-up we’ll send you a link to the Payoneer site where you’ll complete registration, and soon have your Veer Marketplace branded debit-Mastercard in hand for use in virtually any online, retail or ATM.
•   No categories!

This is only the beginning.
The platform needs your input – we’re actively soliciting feedback and feature suggestions to help enhance future releases.

Head to  http://contributor.veer.com (http://contributor.veer.com)  to get started now!

We look forward to welcoming you into the Veer community, and to seeing the great images and illustrations you’ve been creating over the past few months!

- Brian

Love it so far Bryan! The interface is clean and easy to navigate, the site is responsive, the upload process was painless. Little details make our life easier like the online W8BEN and the fact that we didn't have to get the notorious ITIN or EIN (for individuals like me).

The next couple of days will be a good stress test for your platform and your poor reviewers... lol. Good luck to them and good luck to all of us saleswise :)

Hi Talanis -

Thanks for the kind words. We worked hard to make the potentially onerous IRS withholding tax process as painless as possible.

Welcome to Veer Marketplace!

Greetings

. .  but am alittle confused.  After filling out the questionaire it said that I could submit 20 images for review (through email address) . . . . so what does this statement mean . . . .

"This means you can now sign-up and apply to become a Veer Marketplace contributor. Once you pass an “entrance exam” (submit 10 of your best shots for our editors to examine) and then complete royalty and tax information --- you’ll be ready to start uploading your full portfolio. "

Anyone had any success attaching model releases?  My 10 application images are all people shots and I don't see how to upload and attach releases to them...
Title: Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
Post by: Talanis on June 08, 2009, 13:38
I had no problem at all Lisafx but I don't know if it is the same form for the initial upload as it is for general upload. If it is, when you select the files and click continue to get to the page where you can edit your title and keywords, there should be a Release ooption on the right. When you click on it, you can see 2 radio buttons (model and property release) as well as the already uploaded releases. If you click on the model release radio-button, it opens more option and you can chose the release file to upload and put a name and a description for it.

Hope it can help

As far as I can tell, you check the box on the first tab, click continue, to proceed to the second tab (Prepare and Submit). On the right, click Edit next to Releases, and a new dialog opens for you to upload.

ETA: Oops! Too slow! :) Shouldn't have ignored the warning message.

hi Brian,

My images were transferred from SV and much of the SV keywording is rather horrendous. Many images lack the most basic words and the keywording overall is very inconsistent. One of my images has a whopping two keywords assigned to it. Not to mention it indicates a missing description on every image. Will Veer be reprocessing our images to transfer IPTC?

I'm also missing thumbs but I take it these just haven't be processed yet.

kind regards

I have similar problems. None of my images have descriptions, and the keyword are ridiculous. Can you help with this Brian?

I've encountered a different problem.

After the end of entering tax info, etc., there was a prompt to change my password.  I changed it, and now I can't login.  I have also requested that my password be emailed, just in case there was a double typo, but a note pops up saying there is a problem retrieving the data.  Is there a problem, or does it just take a while for the password changing process to implement itself?
Title: Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
Post by: massman on June 08, 2009, 15:12
Yeah, same here. I understand that currently we are unable to edit our keywords, descriptions etc, is there going to be a fix for the 'keyword jumble' ?

To give one example form my portfolio at Veer:

Image
Glass of orange juice with two halves of an orange set against white.

Keywords
auctions, authority, close-ups, courtrooms, equitable, freedom, gavels, guilt, hammering, honesty,  more innocence, isolated, judges, judgment, justice, law enforcement, law reporters, lawyers, mallets, nobody, punishment, real, rules, still lifes, symbols, trials, white background, wisdom, wood

As you can see, it's bonkers.

As delighted as I am to be with Veer, my chances of selling are going to be very slim with tagging like this. I hope this issue can be resolved quickly.

They image processing does not work properly. Gives an error on a half of images I tried to upload. These images has been submitted everywhere so I do not think they are broken.

Hmm.  Well...I called customer service, and they reset my password.  That worked, so I changed it to what I would normally use, and I'm still having the same problem.  At least it recognizes my email address this time...just not the password.  So, I guess it's time to send an email.  Ugh.

UPDATE: Veer truncates long passwords, and only allows a maximum of 8 characters.  I had 20 characters.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL: We are not supposed to call customer service, because they do not handle Marketplace accounts.  To reach them, we need to send emails to [email protected]

Bah. I like it all except the keywords that came with the images transferred from Snapvillage are pretty poor. Sadly the quickest way to fix this is to probably delete all my images and re-upload them with the IPTC data.  :-\

I think I'll wait to see how picky they are on rejections before I delete all my files. (if you can even do that?)

Hi cthoman -

There is no opt-out for extended licenses. All files will be available for buyers who need extended license options.

Once we roll out the full buyer-side Marketplace release later this summer, there will be on page options for buyers to select one or more extended license options. Currently this must be done via Veer customer service.

That's a shame. The no opt out was part of the reason I removed my images at Snap Village. I guess that means no Veer for me. Thanks for answering my question though.

Hi Oboy -

Thanks for the PM - we're currently investigating the keyword issue on transferred content.

Images that are not showing up have not yet been loaded, - these will display as "blanks" until they have been processed by the system. It may take another week or two to finish loading and processing content transferred from SnapVillage.

FTP errors as far as I can see.

I used CoreFTP, Filezilla and CuteFTP - none of them worked. CoreFTP just failed completely couldn't even get passed authorization. Filezilla and CuteFTP got through authorization but were unable to read directory and disconnected.
Yes I did set it to explicit TSL/SSL.

The design reminds me a bit of Lucky Oliver *getting chills*.

I didn't find it intuitive at all. Content is all cluttered. Too many tabs all over the page. Some on the top some on the bottom.
I will get used to it but I've never seen something like this.

I can't even find a link where it displays my sales. No matter where I click on I just feel like I'm getting lost.
So many links... Twitter, Flick, Virb...  :-X

What does the link "Create new portfolio" mean?

Why does the system tell me that there is a job available in my area as a PHP developer? Why would I want to apply there?
Is this a job search site? Also it says "powered by Authentic Jobs"...

Oohh I found it....
The "Dashboard"... How could I miss that - of course - dashboard means "Sales statistics"...  :P

Seriously:

Lucky Oliver comes back to mind. Is anyone from your staff into Warcraft?

I'll see how Veer works out in the next few months. I hope it's worth all the funky design and language on the site.
I wonder who the buyers are...  ???

I don't know...

3.  Is this limit per day or per month or per?

4.  Will this limit change?

Thanks!

Can you please clarify the question regarding payments. No Moneybookers, only PayPal and Payoneer?  In my country I cannot receive payments through PayPal. I don't know anything about Payoneer, but even if I can use that option I am not keen to use another payment option at additional costs just to be used with VeerMP.  Seems the reluctance of SV to pay international contributors is continuing. >:(

We're still investigating the keyword issue on transferred content. So far, we think this might be isolated to certain accounts with content that has not been pushed live to the site yet. We'll keep you updated.

One thing to mention: you'll be seeing the mapped terms in the Veer controlled vocabulary. This means that you won't necessarily see all broader terms, synonyms, and spelling variants - the CV has taken care of those and is only displaying the primary terms.

Hi sgcallaway1994 -

The default submission limit for accepted contributors is 100 files per week. This was established to help make sure that content moves through the queue efficiently. This threshold was established based upon polling on this site and elsewhere, as well as usability study feedback.

It's possible the limit may change in the future. For now we're going to make sure our systems are in good shape, and our editing team is up to speed.

Hi Eco -

For now, we will be offering royalty payments through either PayPal or Payoneer. We'd very much like to offer Moneybookers - and had planned on doing so - but unfortunately, our setup is not compatible with Moneybooker's current offering. We'll continue to work towards offering alternate royalty payment options in the future.

A bit more on Payoneer: they offer a Veer branded prepaid debit-Mastercard that may be a good option for those for whom PayPal is not. Your royalties are loaded onto the card - which can then be extracted at nearly any ATM or used in a retail transaction online or in person. It's a pretty cool setup - we're really impressed with them so far!

Post by: e=mg2 on June 09, 2009, 02:59
Hi,

What will Veer do about the watermark? In isolated objects it's totally useless in most cases.

This means that Veer is offering our images for the web sizes, and it's an invitation for image theft, especially in a segment that brings a lot of sales in micro, the xs sizes.

We've gone through this ordeal with Snapvillage, and I would expect it to be taken care from the start with Veer!

Regards,
e=mg2

I agree about the watermark.  I hope we don't have to go through that argument again.  The fact is that people do steal those size images, I have seen some with the watermark still on and we can do something about that.  It is too easy to crop the veer watermark off and then we will never know if the image has been stolen, please let us have something that is more of a deterrent.

Thank you for the quick answer Brian. I will have I closer look at Payoneer as a payment option.

Can vector artists upload a jpeg with their vectors so keywords and tites can be extracted. Please tell me I won't have to manually input the data for all my illustrations!
Also is there any way I can have my username changed? There were teething problems with SV when it started which meant I had to try twice before my account was successfully set up, so I do not have my preferred user name.

I had the same problem. Only one of the 10 images uploaded successfully without an error. After many frustrating hours of re-uploading I discovered that the keywords of all the images that return an error were entered with Irfaview. The one that made it through I used PixVue. I had to edit all my images using PixVue to re-enter all my keywords and after this the files uploaded with no problems.

All 10 images were since accepted.  :)

My files were without descriptions yesterday but they are there today... have you checked? It says somewhere in this thread that if you get thumbnails the file is still being generated.

I'm having problems uploading images. I tried Filezilla but I get errors. I use my log on the same as the one I use for the Veer site and correct password. I tried the upload button for the browser on workspace on the Veer site but its not active. I can log onto the site OK but can't upload images. My SV images were moved over. I'm completely confused as to why I can't upload. Can anyone help?

Brian, I believe infraview is a very common keywording tool, can whatever bug in reading IPTC data be fixed to allow upload of files edited with infraview ?

well:
I have my 10 initial images approved, now i try to upload 10 more from FTP and when i go to the page it takes ages to make the procesing files, and then they all give me uncknown error, then it just automatically try again and again always with the same result, so i´m not able to do anithing else there.
I tried to delete the files from my ftp client (filezilla) but i can´t do that either. So what can i do now? i just want to delete those images and try to upload from the web.
Maybe all this errors are due to a masive traffic in the servers these days?

Thanks both of you for noticing this. You saved me some time. Luckyoliver and another beginning site had the same problem in the beginning and it took me hours to help them out on that. Adobe and Irfanview use a slightly different scheme to encode metadata. Adobe is less standard. All vested sites can handle both formats flawlessly except for Bigstockphoto that sometimes fools up the Title field.

I'll wait to submit to Veer till the site corrected most of its bugs. You're all doing a great job finding those.  ;D

I'm having the same problem. I decided to upload with FTP  about 15 images without keywords attached. All uploaded successfully and then added keywords after.
If I try to upload images with FTP or one at a time with keywords attached I get a message saying images loaded unsuccessfully unknown error.

Hi Everyone,

I received my password and account login information.  So far I've been able to go through the upload process without issue.  However, I noticed I have a limit of submitting 100 photos.  My question are:

1. How was this limit established?

2.  What happens when I have submitted over 100 images?

3.  Is this limit per day or per month or per?

4.  Will this limit change?

Thanks!

- Brian

Hi Brian,

Is it possible to send DVDs? With the current limit, it would take me 1 year to get all my images on the site.

Thanks.

When I followed the link in the email I found myself logged in as someone else, with access to their account details and all their personal information. This is quite worrying. When I finally logged in as myself, images were transferred from SV but no thumbnails showing.

At the moment I am quite discouraged by the number of errors found by the users here. You would've thought that they would have spent a bit longer testing this.

Any hope for the future here I wonder.....

Anyone any sales yet?

The "first potential buyers" have been shopping at MP since it was first unveiled and I for one have been really enjoying the convenience of having MP images in my shopping cart right alongside images from the main Veer collection, and being able to use the same P.O. number and a single purchase to download the whole group. I have had no problems whatsoever as a buyer.

I believe that the images that were uploaded yesterday by new contributors that signed up yesterday are going to be part of a later push, but I could be mistaken about that.

The Marketplace tab is for the buyers. To get to your contributor page, click on "Account" (top right) and then "Your Member Page". You will see the Marketplace options on the right.

I agree that this could be a little more obvious. It took me a while to find it and then remember how I got there.

"Not suitable for stock – lack of commercial appeal"
I already have nearly 900 images online and these are some of the rejections:

I cant get the ftp to work with Filezilla although all other transfers can be made with no problem to other sites.
I have filled in server details as follows

Host is    upload.veer.com

PORT 22

Server type is FTPES/over explicit/TLS/SSL

Logon type   Normal

User  marilyna

Password     as per Veer login

Passive mode ticked. (Ive also tried default on the mode but its still a no go.)

It tries to connect but I get the message

"ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server".

Can anyone please tell me what I need to do please or what I'm doing wrong? Or is this a glitch?

Also no pics appearing with my transferred files, (they were transeferred yesterday) also no descriptions at all and all the keywords are all very strange.

Can anyone help, its all so tiring!

I couldn't get the FTP to work either but uploading through the browser was just as good as using cyberduck, there didn't seem to be a limit on how many to upload at a time. I was able to throw up 300 in no time... now I just have to wait until I have my quota refreshed.

As for keywords, I bet ALL former SV contributors will have keyword issues for the mere fact that SV was famous, at least early on, for changing our keywords and descriptions. I don't know if they continued it to the end, I stopped looking figuring that they knew what they were doing.....

Yes my keywords and descriptions are a mess too.

I wrote to support last night but still no reply and I guess they are trying to work through the problems.

Seems like all my images imported from SV have their keywords completely mixed up. E.g. image of a vegetable garden patch SKU #1412564 has these keywords assigned to it:

"adventure, blue, computer-generated imagery, conceptual, cutouts, drawings, extreme sports, figure, full-length, gold metal, humanoids, metallic, shiny, snowboarders, snowboarding, snowboards, three dimensional, white background "

I have no idea where these keywords come from, it is certainly not what I submitted. It's a total mess. They better re-import everything.

Is your net connection flaky? Mine too here. Some FTP servers have timeout problems.
Did you IPTC with Irfanview or with any of the Adobe products?

I haven't even been able to successfully sign on to FTP.  They say use your sign-in name.  I have tried both my screen name and my e-mail and neither works.

Any suggestions???

Use html upload until they fix problems with FTP...

I am waiting to hear if there will be any other payment method due to I can't be payed via PayPal and Payoneer is not something I like... So, maybe check will do - I am OK with quarterly check payouts until this thing solved...

OK, I found my problem with Filezilla. I didn't have the ssl/tsl settings right. Uploading OK now.

Thanks.  This was very helpful.  As far as I can see Coffeecup doesn't have a way to set ssl/tsl settings, but I was able to do it in Filezilla.

I think I'm just going to be patient and let them work out all the bugs before I bother trying to upload or do anything.

Same here, got my password and invite email , but I'll wait . It's only growing pains, and once the glitches have been smoothened, I'm sure all will be fine... soon.

I have uploaded my first 10 a couple of days ago, it's still "pending", is this normal or is it stuck somewhere?
I've had 2 e-mails update telling me there has been new activity, but ..actually it's just showing the pending status

I think it is 48 hours waiting until review complete... Maybe few hours more or less...

Neat, i just logged in, 10/10 approved
Didn't get an e-mail though..

Well i got this reply from support today:

"Hi Pablo,

The approval process requires that you submit the 10 initial images which must in turn be approved before you can submit anymore.  I believe the error stemmed from the fact that you were trying to upload more images before your 1st 10 had been approved by our editors.

I see your initial 10 have now been approved so I don't the same problem should crop up again.

Regards,
"

As i said before, i was aproved the day before i start to submit more images, i had a limit of 100 images to upload.
Eitherway it seems they just delete the files from the server, and now i could just try again and all went sweet since then, now i´m uploading my 100 images quota in batches of 20 just in case, and all looks fine now, the process is easy and if you don´t have any issue it fast.
About the earning stats, i read somewhere that they will send you monthly a report via mail with sales and earning information, untill the data is available on the web.
Cheers

Hi Lisafx -

Would you mind posting or PM'ing me your FTP details?  (client name, connection details)
We're working on some add'l troubleshooting guidelines that may help solve many issues that are causing failures or hang-ups when uploading via FTP.

I just finished submitting my initial 10. I used the web browser to submit, didn't try ftp. Once I'm approved, I'll try that route.

I really like the interface, once the images are uploaded. I didn't have any trouble. Like how model releases are attached, that is the easiest way. Only had one minor issue. After I type my keywords, a list of suggestions appear. That is very cool and helpful. But if I click on one of the words, it does put it in my keyword list, but the suggestions collapse. Then I have to say "more" again and have them expand. It would be good if once I hit more, the whole list stays there after I choose one.

I'm excited to see how sales are on this site.

I am in sort of a pickle here.

They transferred over 126 of my files from Snapvillage, but the keywording is horrible They are relevant keywords, there's just only like 10-20 keywords per image as opposed to the 30-40 that I have embedded in the IPTC data. As far as I can tell there is no way to edit or delete the already accepted and online files at the moment. But I would like to get this taken care of before the big customer launch. So perhaps the easiest way to do this would be to have support delete all my images and then I could just re-upload them? I would much rather do that then having to edit the keywords image by image manually.

I have a lot of new images to upload as well but I don't want them to get all mixed in with the bad keyworded files cause then it would likely be even more work to fix them.

Right now I'm just sorta sitting tight and considering my options here. Maybe you could weigh in on this Brian or Aaron? What would you suggest I do?

Hi KngKyle -

I would suggest waiting until mid next week to make sure that if any of your transferred files were affected by the keyword discrepancy bug - these will be fixed automatically.

Beyond that - it might be worth looking at some specific examples of how your submitted terms have been mapped to our controlled vocabulary (CV). The power of the CV will mean that you'll have far fewer top-level keywords (the one you see displayed) - but many tens (or even hundreds) of other searchable terms hidden behind the scenes. It's very likely that many of the submitted terms that appear 'missing' - will actually be searchable as they are part of a hierarchical CV walk-up or a synonym or spelling variant.

It's not uncommon for 40-50 submitted keywords to be 'boiled down' to 10-15 primary CV terms, with another 100+ or so terms made searchable behind the scenes by the CV.

Here's an example:  “tornados” is a narrow term for “storms” which is a narrow term for “inclement weather”
beneath “weather”. All of these terms become part of the keyword “tornados” with just entering the
term “tornados”.  Again, they are not visible, but they are searchable.  And those are just the walk-ups: there are also spelling variants and synonyms included behind the scene as well. In this case "twister" (among others).

The CV does a lot of the work for you - and helps deliver more reliable and consistent searches for customers.

Hope this helps.

Best,

- Brian

Hi AdamG2000 -

We have consulted with our tax advisors, legal counsel and the IRS to ensure that we are properly collecting and maintaining the appropriate information with respect to the foreign photographers withholding tax obligatons.

Rest assured - we don't take this process lightly, and we've definitely done our homework.

Go ahead and jump in.

WOW..with all this confusion I think I'll wait a month or two before I even attempt to upload anything to Veer. Hopefully by then all the bugs will be dead and maybe I'll be lucky and they'll accept my shots on the first try. From what I've kinda observed here they don't seem to favor the isolated on white shots, which to me are stock..but who knows..every site is different. Good luck to all of you and hope you are successful. ;D

What's the deal with the 100 image limit.  I had assumed it was daily, but I have had 100 images pending for two days and still can't submit anything else.

Are the limits weekly?  If so, that is almost as restrictive as istock.  Istock has 5 million images, so you can understand why they would want to slow their growth.

But for a new site to have restrictive uploads makes no sense to me.  At this rate it will take me years to get 5k images on the site.

Am I misunderstanding something?  Anyone else unable to submit beyond the first 100?

I'm sure they beta-tested it but I think we could say we are in open-beta mode and things will probably change again before the launch around the end of july.

Thanks a lot for the response, Talanis.  :)

100/week is extremely slow going if they are serious about building a collection.  Hopefully they will increase the upload limits once they get their bearings.

FWIW their submission process is one of the easiest around.  Totally hassle free other than the limits.

As Milinz said, use the HTML upload. I just went to the 10-image application process and HTML upload is workflow-wise almost as easy as FTP since you can select multiple files to be uploaded. Actually it's not a real HTML upload but a hidden flash thing. Overall, Im very impressed with the smooth and very pleasing aesthetic programming of the submission part of the site.

As to IPTC import, they still have some flaws when the data have been rewritten with Irfanview. Just like in the BigStock title, they always take the first version that you write in there, not the subsequent alterations.

- Brian

Brian,

I don't know if this was asked before. Unfortunately right now I can not read the whole thread. I guess this wasn't asked anyway.

When uploading vectors, do you require a sketch or a reference photograph taken by contributor (if there is any) for each vector submitted?

%90 of sites do not require this for vectors but I do have to submit it for istockphoto almost every single time. Would be good to know in advance.

Thanks

Can anyone help, its all so tiring!

marilyna

dont know if you managed to get it or not, but I had same problem until I removed port 22 and left it blank, now it connects ok and does its thing but connection timed out before you can do anything :)

Hi LisaFx -

The default image submission limit is 100 images per week.  We'll look at changing this default as we ramp up this summer - for now we're holding there to ensure that our systems are up to speed (no pun intended).

A question for those who were not part of the initial SV migration and who just applied and were accepted last week with their initial 10...

Have any of you had files reviewed beyond your initial 10 application files? I'm just curious what the average turnaround time is for regular inspections.

Very frustrated with 100 upload limit  :(

I had my 10 initial images approved in just one day. Then I sent 10 more and got 7 rejected after 5 days (one being a tone variation of an approved image in the first batch, the reason for rejection was 'Pixel quality issue (noise, compression or resizing artifacts' ). Then I sent 30 more images and still waiting...

I guess it's good that there is a 100/week limit at the moment. It seems they have all they can handle for now.

A question for those who were not part of the initial SV migration and who just applied and were accepted last week with their initial 10...

Have any of you had files reviewed beyond your initial 10 application files? I'm just curious what the average turnaround time is for regular inspections.

Hi Whatalife -

The oldest files from approved contributors in the submission queue are about 5 days "stale" now.
We're working to ramp up efficiency to keep our turnaround time at or below the current mark.

I had 87 images approved either today or yesterday (not sure which).

They aren't showing in search results yet.  Not sure if I have to do something to make that happen or if it will be when their servers update next.

Lisa, I think unless you were part of the initial SV migration, the files that are being uploaded now will be part of the release later this summer. Brian explained it more thoroughly in his "clarification" thread.

ETA link:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/veer-marketplace/veer-marketplace-launch-timing-clarification/ (http://www.microstockgroup.com/veer-marketplace/veer-marketplace-launch-timing-clarification/)

There is also a pop-up message during uploading that says they will "be available to customers later this summer."

I submitted 10 files on June 10 and they are still in the Q. I am not an SV migratee. I am sure they are busy, too. So I have been patient. Glad the questions were asked, was about to ask them myself.

Looks like it should be any time now.

Received word today. All 10 rejected. Here's the reason:

Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time. You are welcome to submit 10 new images

Without a more specific reason as to what is wrong with my images, it would be foolish to spend any more time.

Am I missing something? I uploaded 10 of my best sellers on other sites. Images submitted to Veer don't have to be exclusive do they? It's ok to post images that are sold royalty free on other sites, right?

I am so bummed.
Title: Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!

No, they don't have to be exclusive.

That's really surprising, Cathy. You have a nice portfolio. I wonder if different shots would be better... but I agree it would be helpful to have a little bit of guidance as to what they disliked about the first ones you sent.   ???

It seems that people have a pretty big difference in their first experience with the first application and subsequent uploads. I would like to believe that Cathy's rejection was just a glitch.
I am wondering what it the number of images to be approved out of the first 10 for the whole application to be approved? Some people assume that it is 10. I only had 4 approved and 6 still pending when I was pproved and could submit more. Anyone had a similar experience?
By now, I already have quite a few approved so they have been approving the ones submitted later as well.

My experience:  8 out of 10 accepted on the initial submit, then I was allowed to submit the next 100 which I did.  That was yesterday, today I was allowed to submit another 10, I was under the assumption that I would have to wait another week to submit another 100 but who knows for sure.

*** This was not my application submission, I was pre-approved for VEER ***

 >:( Brian~

I think I may have received a questionable review.  All my images were rejected for the SAME reason..." Pixel quality issue (noise, compression or resizing artifacts) ".  Why I believe something went wrong is because each image was not related to the other.  They are ALL from separate photo shoots (with the exception of 1).  In addition, ALL of these images have been approved on other sites, many of which have an EXTREMELY tough review process.  Could someone please look into this.... here are just a few examples.

I did email contributor help and Ryan send a prompt message back:

I believe it simply came down to an overall aesthetic choice by our editor. We're trying to set ourselves a bit apart from the many pre-existing microstock websites and so we're trying to offer a tighter, more curated set of images for those coming to our site to purchase.  Because of this, it may mean that images that have been accepted on other sites (even images that have sold well) will not be accepted on Veer Marketplace.

I can definitely see potential on some of the images you had submitted, nice bright colors and white backgrounds on some of the utilitarian object shots,  but the horse riding image was a bit to snapshot-like, the drive-in theatre was a bit washed out, and the last few images of food seem to be a bit off exposure-wise.

As our initial editor mentioned, you are more then welcome to submit a new set of ten images at anytime.  Our intention is not to scare folks off from submitting to us, but we do want to create a specific look and feel, so our acceptance levels may be a different then some other stock sites.

While Ryan did provide a little more insight, I'm just not sure what else to submit. If you look at my IS port and sort by downloads, I basically submitted 10 from the 1st page. I think I will have to check out the site and some your ports to see what is acceptable.

Good God, another microstock site with erratic reviews/reviewers? I hope not. With StockXpert headed for the dump, I was hoping to pick up another good site.

Hi jcpjr -

Correct.

We evaluate all 10 submissions from a new contributor as a whole to determine whether we feel they are a good fit with VeerMarketplace. If the strong majority ( 7 or more )  of the 10 are considered acceptable, we pass the account. If not - we decline, and reject all 10 files.

i had my 10 firs approved in a couple of days, and the next day i uploaded 100 more and all are aproved now, don´t keep the count of days but it was less than a week.
What i really like is that when an image doesn´t meet their keyword criteria, the image got back to the workarea with a note on the problem and you can just delete the irrelevant words and send again to review, How sweet is that?

today my limit was improved to 106??? i uploaded 58 in the morning and now i can upload 74 more???

One thing i don´t know is about model releases, i have some photos of a frien who at the time signed some MR from other stocks agencies, could i use some of that MR?, because she lives in another city so far away...

Yes, that alone deserves a mention for sure. It's clean and simple process and works for the contributors' convenience, instead of having to resubmit and all that hassle. Veer's upload process is certainly exemplary and some of the Big 6+3 should take note of this.
I am a late comer, as I waited till 10th to get in to transfer my SV port, then submitted my first 20 odd new images. This morning I had my first 10 reviewed , with 1 reject and 2 soft rejects.
It took me a couple of minutes to delete the irrelevant keywords and resubmit. The reject was also nice and neat, (no vague condescending nor those ubiquitous canned irritants eg. this is a snapshot; too simplistic; LCP, one of the following, etc.
Phew~!  a breath of fresh air.  Veer Marketplace, you rock!

Now we wait for some encouraging news of downloads  ;)

I submitted my 10, and waited about 10 days.  Today, it shows that they are all rejected, but no reason is shown as to why.

It states "specific reasons for rejection are noted below" but there is nothing listed, and the individual pictures only show "Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time. You are welcome to submit 10 new images".

Is there another place to look for the reason, or have I hit a bug?  I can't correct an error if I don't know what it is.

Penelope, I started submitting my first batch  the same day I logged in with my PW to transfer my SV port,  18 June. This morning I had the first batch approved. It's not bad, considering that I did not submit all of the 10 images that day, and taking off the weekend.

I am not sure that they give specific image by image comments on the application batch. I think Brian posted somewhere, that of your 10, 7 have to be suitable for their collection in order for your application to be approved.

If you have read all the info available to you on the site (such as their collection guidelines) and you still have no idea why your application was rejected, then you should probably contact them directly.

It's not really a wild stab in the dark  ;), but here is what they say in regard to what they are looking for:
FAQ: Quality & Content (http://ideas.veer.com/group/marketplace/discussions/91)
Quote
FAQ: Quality & Content

What kinds of content will Veer Marketplace accept?
We’re looking for high-quality content that will appeal to Veer’s design-savvy customer base. Things like:

- Model-released images of people in business or lifestyle settings
- Images that creatively capture in-demand concepts like “green” or “togetherness”
- High-quality travel and landscape shots with excellent technical quality
- Technically excellent shots of utilitarian business and home tools and objects
- Vectors: from simple (but useful) backgrounds, to more stylized work

What kinds of content won't be accepted?
Veer customers prefer – and count on – a tighter, more curated selection of content. This is good news for you. A smaller pool filled with higher-quality content means your content has a better chance to be noticed. To that end, we suggest you don't submit:

- Multiple, similar images of flowers from your garden
- Snapshots of your cat sunbathing (no matter how adorable)
- Outtakes from your last family vacation
- Images that include designs, logos, or trademarks
- Images that include famous modern buildings or modern art
- Images with heavy use of filter effects

I'm happy to say I got all 10 photos approved on my first attempt.  In case this might help other people who are trying to get in:  I decided to submit some of my best selling photos on other sites, all very different subjects.  I was hoping that might help me show them I could do different kinds of things.  At the same time, I thought it might help spread the risk a little.  For instance, if they didn't like flowers, there would also be isolated objects (on black, on white, etc).  This strategy seems to have worked. :)

Additional information I forgot to mention earlier: approval took about a week.  I uploaded my photos last weekend, if I remember correctly.  So I think the queue for new contributors is about 6-7 days at the moment.

Sounds about right.  My initial approval took about a week, as did my first 100 after that.  I had nine of the original ten accepted; number ten was a shot of hot air balloons that was pushed back for the lack of a property release.  Veer is clearly more sensitive about property releases than any of the majors; they require releases for a variety of architectural photos that have sailed through elsewhere.

2.  Do I start again when replacing a photo with a note like "Adidas stripes are trademarked. Please remove and resubmit. " Do I simply delete that photo from my "New" area?   The "Rejects" area is empty, but I don't see a "replace" feature anywhere.

Don't know how to answer number 1, but for number 2... there is currently no replacement feature. I left the "needs work" images in my pending folder, and resubmitted new versions. Once the new ones were accepted, I deleted the "needs work" ones from the folder.

I think they are going to eventually have some kind of resubmit function, but right now they don't.

I'm still seeing all my SV vector images that were ported over to Veer showing as broken images in my dashboard. Anyone else? Only new uploads actually show up properly.

I don't have any transferred from SV (they rejected me only to accept me first go when they actually looked at my photos and not the sales figures. erghhh ! Sorry can't help but rant)

so can't answer your question regarding transferred files though I have a number of new uploads that show broken images.

So I think the problem is not exclusively to do with ported images from SV

The same here. Ported jpg files came over fine, but the SV vectors show no image.

ALL 10 of mine got REJECTED!!!!!

If you with 1,506 photos and 7,257 sales on Dreamstime (also ex featured photographer there) failed the "exam", I won't even try.
My 10 were also refused for "guess it" as stupid as it could be, as they seem to like them. Funny !  they like but they arn't good fit. ha ha ha  !
I don't think that I will retry as I really don't know what kind of pictures they are looking for. Mine were quite diversified, accepted and good sellers in other microsites.
Here the reason
"Based on these 10 images, we can't offer you contributor privileges at this time. You are welcome to submit 10 new images. We like your photos, but feel the vectors you submitted aren't a good fit for us. We look forward to your next submission - try again. "

When Veer feel an image has too many non-relevant keyword, it really stinks there isn't a way that we can just edit them out on the site end (unless I'm just not seeing it...)  I have a bunch I'm going to have to delete, and then rekey and then reupload - and no, that won't be happening.  I don't have time for that crap.

But you can edit the keywords on the site end.  Under your Workspace (New)  select the image (or several) and click on continue.  There (on Prepare and Submite page), on the right,  bring down Keywords and delete or add words.  When done select the image and submit again . . . .  it works well, but slow if you are like me and have to eliminate several words.

You could also try uploading images with fewer non-relevant keywords.

VEERs 10 uploads are as bad as SS, but I will say the support will respond to your emails quick.  I had all 10 images rejected for basically "not quite what we need".  If something is wrong with the images, tell me so I know which ones to submit and not do the same type of images for crying out loud.  uhg...still getting sales though at SV

Did you read their guidelines about what they are looking for? How much time did you spend checking out the Veer macro collection?

My experience is good. They accepted 10 of 10 and it took less then a week.  Their FTP worked without any problem and the upload interface looks pretty good, it is already better then most of the agencies have.

Well, my experience was great apart from yesterday.. EPS file upload is problematic.. About 80 files accepted and 34 files rejected for a reason that has got nothing to do with me..

I am ok if the file is rejected for a normal rejection reason.. But I am certainly not OK when they say "Please resubmit the files because our preview generation sucks!" They say I am supposed to change the files so their previews can be created! The previews are all great elsewhere and nothing wrong with the settings of the files..

Now I am seriously worried that my accepted images may actually look bad in the previews when the site goes online.. Why on earth were they not rejected if my settings were wrong?..

The rejected files are not gradient mesh or something.. They are exactly the  same style as the accepted ones..

I did spend some time looking through the market place to see what kind of images they had.  I however did not see a place where they say what their needs are.  Have you seen that?

Yes, as a matter of fact, I answered the same question on the previous page.

Ok, yes I saw that...most images I submitted to them where Business and Landscape/Cityscape shots.  For the support guy I talked to he seemed to think that about 2/3rds of the shots where good and I just need to switch out a few shots.  So we will see, they are pending.
