I am pleased with veer marketplace so far but I would like to see the watermark improved.  At the moment, it is too easy to just crop out, as it is just in the bottom right corner.  The preview images are quite small but I am sure some people will use them.  Blog size images are very popular.  SV changed their watermark when they realized that we were not happy with it, should veer change theirs?

i did not vote yet, as i like to hear from veer first.
but to be honest, there aren't too many effective watermarks. eg. fotolia's is easy to clone off, etc.
the ones i feel is effective are the ones with a clear and large watermark covering the center. when large i mean large as in over 50% of the image.
also, i like the idea of which site, 123rf i think, that allows you to move about  the watermark .
in all, i like to see a large clear watermark with movable option.

on the other hand, we have also seen how a thief who has intent to steal will take it anyway, wm or none. the deterrent is not the wm, but more so, some legal enforcement, like reporting to some kind of web-police. i think Cut's J G has done a little in this direction. unfortunately, the other Big 6 has not done much , if not anything.  if so, i stand to be corrected wholeheartedly.

I am pretty sure that Brian listed a "brand new watermark" as part of the main launch. I will see if I can find what I'm thinking I remember seeing. :)

Ah, that was simple enough. Yay.

Hi All -

It's become clear some are confused over the Veer Marketplace launch phases, and when you'll start seeing royalties on content uploaded this week.
Some of you have asked: "my content was approved yesterday. why can't I find it when I search for it?"

Veer Marketplace is being rolled out in 3 major phases:

Phase 1: The current customer-facing Veer Marketplace is still the Phase 1 preview version - with a static collection of content transferred from SnapVillage.  [launched in February, - content was rolled over from SnapVillage over the past few months]

Phase 2: We've just launched the contributor ingest workflow so you can submit your portfolio ahead of the customer release. [went live earlier this week]

Phase 3: A customer-facing launch that unveils a credit-based system, and connects all the pieces and make Veer Marketplace truly and fully live from end to end. [late July]

The sales and royalty reporting tools will be added as we get closer to the Veer Marketplace customer-facing launch (Phase 3).
Content uploaded to Veer Marketplace now cannot be searched or licensed until that launch.

The customer facing launch will include many important elements:

 - a switch to a full credit-based purchase system with credit-based subscription and extended-license options
- a brand new watermark for all Veer Marketplace content
 - search and sort mechanisms for buyers
 - a robust collection to satisfy Veer customers hungry for great content:  all the new images you are uploading into the system now, plus all of the content transferred from SnapVillage.

Hope this helps.

- Brian

That watermark might as well not even be there.  The web size is totally 100% usable to anyone that knows how to crop off the edge of an image.  Definitely not up to par with the industry standard, when it comes to protection.  I'm sure Veer Marketplace will improve it in time. Plus it has got to take a while on the back-end of things to re-watermark an entire collection of images.

You might be interested to know that downloading a comp from the main Veer site will give you an image completely free of any watermark, whilst the marketplace watermark ain't great at least there is one.

That's right. Most of the macro sites I purchase from give unmarked comp images to registered users who are logged in to their account, including Getty. The Veer comps are among the most generous I have seen.

Probably because the traditional/RM agencies don't give a crap about losing a buck or two to a lost web size.  But when it comes to the microstock model, a handful of web-resolution images really do add up to some decent dinero.  We live in a media filled world, and everything from mobile phones to blogs have a use for lower resolution images.  Pretty soon we'll have freaking lcd screens on our * dinner plates for pete's sake, just so we don't miss a precious email while we're chowing down on our dinner ;)  LOL

Thanks for digging that up, Whatalife.

Definitely there needs to be a better watermark.  I will wait until the rollout to see what they offer before I vote.

I haven't voted yet as I like to see what Veer Marketplace has in mind. I would think that a watermark like Dreamstime or BigStockphoto , ie. large, transparent, and not so easy to clone off, would be perfect. And the choice to move the watermark within the frame , like 123 rf, would be wonderful.

I've been looking for a new product to invest in.  Now I've found it!  Just have to make it "dishwasher safe!"

Wow, what possibilities! Imagine a matching salt and pepper set with lcd screens, or mayonnaise with built in internet. This could be a winner.
Then there are possibilities for fork handles and knife blades.
But someone would sneak adverts in there!

So now that the new watermark is in place, what do you think of it?

Example:

It looks OK.  Visible enough to put people off taking them but not too distracting for the buyers.

Doesn't seem too visible, but would still require a lot of cloning if someone wanted to use. I see your point though. Too bad there wasn't some sort of auto detection, whereby dark photos used white watermark and light photos like this one used black type.

At least there's type all through the photo. That's more than some sites do.
