Veer is becoming a place where you don't make money with your pictures on sale, but with the picture that are not... strange world...  ::)

Nice to see that there IS AGENCY which respect seasoned contributors!

Good move Veer!

How is this any reflection of paying for uploads?

The same as paying for uploading 'template logo' on iStock for you ;-)

I like your biased stance... You tried to collect some cash there, wasn't you?

But, we're in different teams dude. And team for which I play pays me to play unlikely yours!

I'm trying to translate what you're saying, but this doesn't have anything to do with "respect" for "seasoned contributors" unless you can explain otherwise.  It's a payment merely for uploading to any contributor.

They pay better the more images you have online already:

Quote
Existing contributors (fewer than 199 images on veer.com)

Get 1 to 99 new images accepted and youll earn $0.35 per image.
Get 100 to 399 new images accepted and youll earn $0.70 per image.
Get 400+ new images accepted and youll earn $1.40 per image.
Existing contributors (200 to 399 images on veer.com)

Well, I guess a $.35 difference on images 50-100 could be seen as "respecting seasoned contributors".  At least your answer made sense ;)

Sorry... I thought you understood it from start.

$0.70 in my case for any image accepted up to 401 is much more than $0 on your team. Not to mention that silly upload limitations of 15 or so weekly ;-)

I now have more than 400+ accepted on Veer ;-)

So, that is what I call respect to contributors.

[EDIT] in your example of 50-100 accepted it sums up to $35 - $70 which is total for some microstockers on one or two sites for whole month of downloads... But, I am aiming for 400+ accepted in this promotion ;-)

your work must be pretty good to get the 400! I got more than 1000 photos on Veer, but got other 1000 rejected.. :P

Veer knows that 400 approvals is a lot, I guess for the already contributors.. I know that are amazing photographers at other agencies not uploading there, will 400x1.4= 560$ worth for them??

I am one of those people who uploaded and had images approved, but made one sale in several months so I gave up and pulled my images down. I would be happy to give it another shot, especially with this Dash for Cash program, and hopefully a good marketing program.

My account is still open but when I go to Your Member Page, it has delete3 as the name of the page. And I can't find my way to the Workspace to upload. I sent an email to service@veer to figure out what I need to do.

Who knows, maybe they will tell me to get lost, I had my chance.  :)

The way it looks to me, is if you get 400 images accepted  (the key word here is ACCEPTED) then you will receive $1.40 for each photo accepted no matter how many images you have with them already.  They also have in small print  " Images submitted during the Veer Dash for Cash will be reviewed and published by the end of August, and payments will be sent by September 15, 2010."

That will give them plenty of time to review and selectively take the photos they want......and I'm sure they will be pretty picky on their selections....but hey...for $1.40 for each one selected (assuming you get 400 accepted)...they should be.  I only have 126 images online....I just never got around to uploading more...they were a little picky on those and I had a few rejected, but not overly so.  I put my first 100 up today....only 3000 left......I am not even going to waste my time uploading the marginal images...as I am sure they will be axed.

I'm actually a little exited about this....for the first time a big name player that has a very good possibility of succeeding is going to pay something just to get some content....

^^ Perkmeup,
I'm waaay excited :)
I can barely stand still and keep on repeating the story to all my designer friends.
Driving them nuts :)

@Cathy,
the bonus is welcome of course, but in my books it's only secondary.
My hope is that Corbis will follow on with aggressive marketing. It makes sense.
Corbis is a respected brand. They've got the money (plenty of it), they've got the glory.
They're well capable of taking Getty's crappy 0.25 cents offers head on, with a good chance of success.
This is why I think photographers should join them now.
Not the bonus, but the future.
Hopefully :)

Contact Veer Cathy. I'm sure they'll be happy to take you (and the others) back. It sounds like it's worth it.

Great discussion here.

I'll clarify a few of the main questions to make sure everyone understands how Veer Dash for Cash is going to work, and why we have launched this program.

Submission Date, Publish Date, Payment:  images submitted between May 5 and June 30 that are approved will count towards your final tally, even if it's published after June 30.  We expect to have a large backlog after this program so it'll take time for our editors to get through all the submissions.  Even if your image was submitted on June 30, no matter how long the image is pending before it's published, you will be paid for it.

Weekly 100 image upload limit:  we are keeping our standard 100 image per week upload limit because we expect new contributors to sign up, which may add significantly to our submissions pool.  The weekly limit is necessary to ensure we aren't overwhelmed.  We want to take as many images as we can but it's also really important that we publish the images quickly so you can start making royalties.

Selects:  to maximize your select rate and payout make sure to minimize similars and upload your best 100 images per week from a broad range of topics, locations, models.  We're looking for quality and variety.

Why is Veer doing this:  we are ramping up for a relaunch this summer, along with new marketing campaigns to reach a lot of new customers.  First impressions are important so naturally, we aim to impress new customers with an even bigger and better image collection.

Ryan is your point person - feel free to reach out to him with questions.

Thanks for the support!  Keep us busy!!

Aaron

It is worth for me... I don't care much about what is NOT worth for some other people in branch...

Anyhow, I said I have 400+ images there and I didn't said my exact figure... But it is larger than 400 ;-)

With that $500+ I can fly on some destination and shoot more... Which means I have free trip and possibility to make few hundreds up to thousand new stock images. I am not machine-gun photographer and I don't shoot any subject more than 3-5 times! But, my average trip shooting rate is 1000-3000 images ;-)

[Edit] FYI: I have less than 200 rejected there ;-)

So if I submit 100/wk starting today that means I can only upload 900 photos out of the 3000 I have. I guess I have a few hours work to choose the best 900 so that most can get accepted. If I can get 800 approved I'll be happy with the work/reward ratio. And hopefully sales kicking in the fall.

And what's up if the FTP? No worky... :(

Try to differ them in that batches... They don't like more than 2 from same subject ;-)

And... Be ready to have 30-70% of rejections too.

I'm not too excited with this promo. My 277 images are yielding almost nothing at Veer. I'm treating them as I would any newbie. If I get some sales coming in with some of my most productive images elsewhere I'll start uploading again. I'm sure if the marketing they're planning starts working I'll see some results. If not, no loss. At least with my images.

Ryan, my account is still open but I deleted my images after some months because of lack of sales. I would like to give this another go...the Dash for Cash is good incentive but more important I am hoping you are also going to be doing some heavy marketing along with this program.

I sent you an email at [email protected] earlier this morning explaining a problem I have with my account. My account is still open, or at least it appears to be. I can login with my same info from before, all my account details are correct. But when I click the Member Page link, it shows delete3 as the account holder on the page. Can you help with this? Should I just open a new account?

EDIT: Just heard back from support and even though I can see my account, apparently Veer cannot. Oh well, start from scratch it is!

How come the back-end doesn't automatically import embedded descriptions from image meta data?  Or is it just me?  Are descriptions not required?  Of course they're better to have, for SEO purposes.  I've already got around 900 images on Veer, but haven't noticed this bug until now.  My older ftp uploads pulled the descriptions from my images just fine.

I just uploaded 10 via browser upload and all metadata showed up ok. Maybe just be a bug with FTP, as mentioned earlier.
