I think Yaymicro is one of the best sites from a technical point of view and all of these innovations are appreciated.

But a site with low sales cannot realistically ask us contributors to spend time in promoting site.

If you want to show off our images, what about including ALL of our ports in the partner program? It kinda worked for other sites, such as Canstock and Zoonar. With the possibility to opt out of course, for those who don't like pp.

I asked about the (Ingram) licensing deal and was not even replied to to say "we can't add you" or anything. I'll promote Yay to my readers and twit followers when Yay promotes my work to the buyers who actually buy things, like Ingram.  I know people are making decent money at Yay on that program, I just don't happen to be one of them.

On a side note, I promote GraphicLeftovers because I make $3+ a sale, no categories, and they're easy to work with.

One of the best way to increase your sales at YAY would be to promote your images at YAY... ;) As a photographer I would look at which agency gave me the most money for my image sales - and try to direct my sales to that agency. I know YAY is amongst the agencies that pay the highest commission.

True. But if I had time to promote my images, I'd rather build my own site and direct buyers there, where my commission would be 100%. But since I don't have time (and will) to deal with buyers, I rely on agencies to sell my images and I don't try to direct buyers anywhere. And an high number of sales - combined with a decent commission - is better than a great commission but very few sales.

Luckily, your upload method is very easy so I will continue to upload to Yay, hoping for the API to bring new sales. That's all I can do at present to support fair minor sites without spending too much time.

Exactly. I applied for the pp at yay twice and never got an answer, either positive or negative.

I can only apologize if you never got an answer regarding the third party program - please, do send a new e-mail ([email protected] and include "third party" in the topic. And I'll make sure the person in charge gives you a timely response!

I completely understand that most photographers don't have the time to do excessive promotion of their images, and indeed - it's the agencies job. The different activities we do is mostly aimed at those who do want to promote their images, if only by sharing a link on facebook or twitter.

I believe several of the API partners have the potential of generating more income than the third party deal, - and we're really excited about the API program and the response here at YAY.

As for commission, we give $1.4 for subs, and for single images it's $0,75 for small, $3,65 for medium and $7.3 for large files.  The commission on API is different for the different partners, you should get that (confidential!) information tomorrow.

Thanks for the tool.  It is great to have ways to promote our images ... when we want :)

I don't feel Yay is 'expecting' us to advertise for them, they are just giving us options if we want to send our buyers to their site, which i can't see anything negative about.  When deciding where to send someone wanting to buy my photo, I look at the prices the site sells my images for and the commission I get, and not so much at many sales the site already has.  What other site do you get 1 euro/subscription download?

Linda - I tried adding "livinglife" (username) to the link you gave above, but it doesn't work. It just shows 0 images and no slideshow is presented, just a bar at the bottom where the slideshow should be.

Edit: Also, I just checked it again. When you click on the link for "rest of my images" it brings up a search page to set the criteria, but no images at all. So it appears none of my images are showing up.

Well, either you work REALLY fast, or it fixed itself. It now works. Thanks!

Hi!

The username is case-sensitive, and at YAY your username is "LivingLife". I guess that's what happened to you!

Thanks, Linda. Yeah, when I went back the third time, I typed it LivingLife. It didn't dawn on me at first because the login isn't. It's all good now, though.  ;D

How about making a feature where the photographers may handpick photos from their own port to create their own personal slideshow? I know i would use such a feature.

Yes, that's a good idea Brage! I think we could make a standard page - and then you can make a project folder with the images you want to show. We should manage to develop such a feature within a couple of weeks!

Please also suggest any tips on how you all would like a page like this to work! I can't promise we'll make every feature, but we'll do our very best to make this a useful tool for you to show off your images!

And sorry for the late reply, we've been really busy preparing for the image congress CEPIC - but now we're back, and with lots of great deals, and inspiration!

Thanks Linda, that sounds good! I think most of us would like to select which images go in the slide show. Will it be possible to set it up so we can change the selection when we like (perhaps to keep it topical in the case of Editorial, or some might want a seasonal theme such as Christmas images)? Regards, David.

If you end up putting the flash slide show on the front page, I would recommend a link that shows all the images in the slide show.  That way if someone sees an image and it changes they don't have to wait until it completely rotates.

Great idea - I'll make sure to add links to portfolios or to public project folders when making image slide shows!

Thanks,

Linda
