Title: impressed with yaymicro this month
Post by: leaf on November 17, 2008, 06:02
I have sold 15 euro worth of photos at Yay this month.  It is still a piddly amount, but nice to see it improving!  I like the site, and hope things pick up there.

- I also thought I'd give them a little advertising in the top banner as a pat on the back :)

congrats Leaf!

I had lots of images hosted on their homepage, but still only earned 9euros since they started selling....
not that much.

Best,
diego

No sales but lots of hope for this one. Their approach to marketing appears to be different and wish them well.

Nicely designed site. I hope they do well. No sales for me there yet, although my portfolio is small.

Glad you did Leaf as it prompted me to sign up today and upload a small test batch. Love the site and uploading was so prompt and easy. I know a lot of people  on this forum seem to be giving up on Yay (I've just read every single posting relating to them!) but as others keep saying it IS very early days.  It's a bit like starting out in microstock and expecting to have thousands of sales in your first week ;) Business doesn't work like that. Any business. Regards, David

I am guessing Leaf got lucky.  Almost nobody has more than 1 sale on their message boards, and those contributors have been around since last spring.

Look at the traffic chart:

They don't even generate 1000 unique visitors per day.  And how many of those visitors are contributors checking their lack of earnings?  Seriously, I have a website which I run with zero advertising and I still get more than 500 unique visitors per day.

Sold 2 so far, I don't think they have been given much time to get going and I don't mind leaving my portfolio there for a year to see if they can surprise us.  It was easy to upload and the site looks great.  I am only interested in sales though and I hope they can get some going.

Well done, Leaf! That's good going.

No sales for me either.

It's quite a big risk they're taking, trying to start up in the cut-throat world of microstock, what with the current economic climate.

But, they're easy on the eye, and easy to upload to ... so I'll give them a chance.

Over 1800 images on the site for months and zero sales. Most people on Yay have zero sales. The future of Yay does not look bright for me.

Do you know the words to the "Lucky Oliver" song?

Still at ZERO for me.
I feel they still have a lot to do to impress and encourage people.

I guess that with 4 sales I'm one of the top earners at Yay Micro  ;D

I still upload all my pictures here because it is so easy, but we need sales soon indeed.

Maybe once this forum starts talking about good sales or at the very least good buyer traffic on the site I'll start uploading to yaymicro, for now, remarks like, easy to upload too, great site etc, does not do anything for me. I've tried following the crowd on another New Site/Low Earners with not even satisfactory views on it. :P

Congratulations Leaf and well deserved, you should take a 'screen grab' now because I doubt Yaymicro are going to be around much longer.

I pulled out of there a while ago but I must still be on the email list, today I got an email from them, it was the funniest thing I've read in a long time, it was like playing that game where you have to say the exact opposite of what you mean!

1 sale in 6 months.  Yaymicro is a complete waste of time.

This government sponsored site is exactly what a government-anything becomes. I think they're riding out whatever seed money came up front. Next time some higher-up bean-counter in Norway reviews this albatross it should be gone.

Together with American banks and car industry?

I think they're riding out whatever seed money came up front.

As I mentioned in another thread, I suspect that their programmer left some months ago since there is no change at all any more at the (features of the) buyer's side of the site. The much requested view counter still isn't there, since they "concentrate on buyer's features".  ;D Reviews become slower so I figure that Linda keeps the fort alone.

Most of all, I had a thorough look at their "search engine". It apparently works by upload date, not by relevance or view count. Most recent uploaded come first. Since I uploaded the bulk of my port right when they started, all my shots come very very late in the search results. My DT and SS best sellers for instance come somewhere around page 200. No way I could have sales with such a "search engine", and I'm punished for being an early adopter. I had 3 sales when the site was just up (July, August), then nothing any more, probably since I was pushed back in the searches by later uploaders.

There is also no sign whatsoever on Google of any marketing they would be doing, none. As to SEO, these sites are currently best of feeding individual pictures into Google: mostphotos, cutcaster, zymmetrical, fotolia, scandinavianstockphotos, dreamstime, shutterstock. YAY: none.
Plain Google hits: Istk: 15M, DT: 3.5M, SS: 1.6M, MP: 1M, FP: 550K, ZYM: 520K, CC: 90K, YAY: 77K.

I keep uploading since it's dead easy and I can leech the thumbs of my port very easily so I have a complete overview (they take all).  :P

Together with American banks and car industry?

And the porn industry, "just to see us through hard times".  ;D

Cars, banks, micro, porn -- no difference. Once the government (any government) gets it's snout under the tent you can bet that you're in deep trouble.

Yeah I can really see the porn industry being able to create disciplined compliance and reporting standards suitable to US Treasury.

Bail outs and stimulus packages don't work, never worked, and will never ever work.

This will work itself out in the end, and in 8 years from now everyone will forget what happened and make the same mistakes again.
