Title: Refer buyers to YayMicro for 20% comission forever + + +
Post by: leaf on September 15, 2010, 06:15
YayMicro (http://yaymicro.com/view.action?referredBy=leaf&referredLinkId=50) has just released a new referral program where we can refer buyers.

The short of it is, you get 20% commission on whatever the buyer buys for the lifetime of the buyers account.

The 20% part is on par with the other sites, but the fact that the referral commissions keep coming forever is a huge bonus.

There are a few other sweat tid-bits as well.

You can read the full detail on the referral program here (http://yaymicro.com/view.action?page=affiliate_referral_commission_API_discount_earn_money&referredBy=leaf&referredLinkId=50).

Yay pays out 50% commission to photographers and gives 1 Euro for each subscription download so if you are sending buyers to a site, this could be a good option.

20% for referrals... that's crazy! ("some" sites doesn't give that even to contributors! :))

Yes, their new referral system seems to be very interesting and generous! I especially like that part when you get 5% for your referring referrals.

So theoretically it seems to be great piece of thing. Now, hopefully it will work also in reality as well as it appears to be theoretically!
I will give it a try …  ;D

Lol. Yay is maybe a low earner, but they have light speed payment system, no categories, fast website, and now they have 20% referral earnings that last forever. All these things show us that they really pay attention on contributor's satisfaction and ease of work. I wish them (and us) many new buyers. :)

"Forever" sounds very long, considering they won't most probably be around "forever". Smells like despair.

I thought they already got referral program in place. Do I have to change anything in my referral banners to be in new one?

You don't have to change anything, and the members already referred will continue in this new program. As for contributor referral - it's the same as before: €0.1 for each image downloaded/bought by a customer. You'll find answer to many questions under the Q&A. :)

FD: We think the people bringing in customers should get the same terms as the photographers bringing in the product. You get photo commission forever, and the same will be for our affiliates. And trust me, we're not going anywhere soon! ;)

We're adding a couple of new requested features tomorrow, we'll get back to you with details.

Cheers,

Linda :)

I also see the word beta on the page, so this offer might be changed in the future.  If yay keep their 3rd party deals going, they should be around for a long time and they have more sales from their main sites than some sites that have been around for years.

Wouldn't it be fairer to pay the contributors 70% if you have that sort of margin to play with?

+1 - I'm a little fed up with contributor referrals everywhere. You just attract the professional referral hunters. At the contrary, I'm all pro buyers referrals.

70% is not sustainable, certainly not for a Nordic agency where the cost of living is very high. For a stock agency, you need at least one sales person (also the chief strategy officer), a good programmer (or chief technology) and one phone support/accountancy person. That's already 3. Add some reviewing costs, and you'll see why it's not that simple as adding a Photostore install on a server and pray for Google.

And you’ve just described Yay: 3 person team (good programming no doubt given their site), absolutely no Photostore install ( http://is.gd/fdJSZ (http://is.gd/fdJSZ) ).

Haven't we seen already seen the failed attempts from sites that pay 70% or 80% to the photographers and having nothing left for advertising.  80% of 0 is still 0

Paying us 20% for referrals is basically using 20% of their gross income for advertising, which is certainly not overspending and should help generate customers.

I know. I actually saved your PDF link before.  ;)
My reaction was more intended towards those that think starting a Coop site is easy. Technically, it's certainly easy but they forget you'll need at least 3 full-timers to make it work.

Update:
After request we've made a few changes:
Cookies will track your referral for up to 30 days. This to ensure that you actually get the referral credit for the people you refer. We have also changed the referral-input box. It won't show when you are referred, but it will be visible if you're not entering the site via a referred link. This to make sure that people don't remove referrals, and to make it easier to refer people without using links. (Now all they need from you is your username - they will still get a 20% discount.)

And to be clear: Beta is beacuse we'll improve the program when we get feedback. The commission and terms will be the same after the beta-period.

Cheers, Linda

Oh, I'm glad you discovered this! I don't know how you'll add the referral link to it, but I'll check with IT and fix it on the page asap! If you find any other missing parts please tell us!

After feedback from users we'll soon update the program with more buyer friendly coupon codes, with a focus on the discount for the buyer - and not on the fact that you're referred.

Cheers,

Linda

Hi All

This is definitely a good scheme.  I contribube to YayMicro and like the simplicity of the scheme.  My photos get very few views though, but that could just be me!  Still anything that helps the site to develop has to be a good thing.

If you haven't joined then you can see it all here:

http://yaymicro.com/register.action?referredBy=jwsc101  (http://yaymicro.com/register.action?referredBy=jwsc101)

The question I have about this is how to find potential purchasers to refer.  I can kind of think where to go to find potential contributors but really, where do I start looking for people who are going to sign up to buy?  Any ideas guys?

Why not offer me 100% of my sales? So far in 2010 I've had 0 sales with Yay. So think of all the money they'll save. ;D

I don't know, maybe I'm missing something. I would never have known about this new program had I not come here looking for something else. It seems a little silly to have to go to another site just to find out information about YayMicro. I still liked it better when the forum was where it belonged - on YayMicro. Maybe an alternative to not putting this information on YayMicro would be to at least send email to the contributors so they would know what is going on. For some reason, I'm not getting the notices from this site anymore, either. Not sure why.

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly in a previous post, Linda. Do referrals that we had before this program started count for anything, or do we just lose any benefit from them?

Thanks.

One other question - I was just reading the part about the 20% discount given for our referral's first purchase. The way I am reading it, it looks like I am paying for the advertising, not YayMicro:

That’s the best part, you will be able to give customers a 20% discount on all our deals. All referred customers will get a 20% discount on the first purchase, no matter what they buy. This means you’ll make 20% less on the first sale, but increase the chance of getting a recurring customer. People love discounts.

Am I reading this wrong?

I read it as this:

Normal referral commission: $10 sale x 20% = $2 commission

Referral commission on discount: $10 sale - 20% = $8 sale x 20% = $1.6 commission

Hi LivingLife!

The program is still in Beta, and we're working on some design changes making it easier to understand how the affiliate process works. In addition, we're still discovering faults and prefer to fix as many as them as possible before going for a full launch of the program. When we do we'll make sure to e-mail all contributors, post about it at the front page etc. You'll also find a link and more information under your account (later, not now.)

The referrals you already have will join the new program, no worries!

Linda :)

Hi!
We're both taking the cost of the 20%. We are still giving you a 20% commission on the sale, but the sale in dollars will be lower for both parts.

Ex: A sale for $120 without discount would give $120 in to YAY's account. You get a commission of $24, the photographers will get $60, and YAY is left with $36.
The same sale with discount would give $100 to YAY's account. The photographers still get $60, you get $20 and YAY is left with $20.

When a first-time customer returns they'll pay normal price.

Linda :)

We've fixed this, the new code is:
YAY! Search Stock Photos & Illustrations:

<script type="text/javascript">
   function clearField(thefield) {
       if (thefield.defaultValue==thefield.value)
       thefield.value = ""
   } </script>

<form action="http://yaymicro.com/search.action" method="get">
  <input id="searchbox" name="search.search"
  value="" onfocus="clearField(this)" class="txt"
  type="text" size="40" /><input type="hidden" name="referredBy" value="YOUR_USERNAME"><input type="hidden" name="search.first"
  value="true" />   <input type="image" name="radio"
  src="http://yaymicro.com/images/b_search.gif" id="searchbutton"
  alt="Search" height="20" style="vertical-align:top;" /></form>

As you can see you have to replace YOUR_USERNAME with your actual username.

Hi again!

Today we went live from beta. We've added a few new features, and tried to make the whole program easier to use. The commission is still 20% of sales price, and two tier sales are 5%. You get a $5 web-banner bonus, and if you add a banner in December you can win an iPad. :)

We've made a page that shows you images - read more about it here http://blog.yaymicro.com/2010/11/23/new-photographer-page/ (http://blog.yaymicro.com/2010/11/23/new-photographer-page/)

If you already are a photographer at YAY you've gotten an e-mail about the program today. If you're not at YAY yet, you can read the newsletter here:
http://static1.yaycontent.com/pub/newsletters/affiliate/dm-photographers-launch-affiliate.htm (http://static1.yaycontent.com/pub/newsletters/affiliate/dm-photographers-launch-affiliate.htm)l

You can visit the program here:
http://yaymicro.com/view.action?page=affiliate_intro
 (http://yaymicro.com/view.action?page=affiliate_intro)

And if you have any questions ask them here, on our LiveChat, or send us an e-mail at [email protected]

All feedback is appreciated!

Cheers,

Linda & the rest of the YAY-team

Linda - Your post here says if you put up a banner in December, you are entered. In the email I got, it said "if you add an affiliate link and banner today". I have two questions. Okay, guys, don't laugh too hard. Sometimes, I need to have a picture drawn for me. LOL!

Thanks!

  • Am I going to be disqualified because my banner went up on November 30, not in December?
  • Do I need an "affiliate link" (i.e., a text link) and a banner, or does the banner suffice? The email said "and".

Thanks!

Hi!

You'll get it if you put it up in December - or today! ;) We add every link, username and e-mail to the list, making sure everyone get a change to win the iPad. The bonus should be on your account by the end of tomorrow.

A banner with a link is what we're looking for, the one you sent me was perfect!

Cheers,

Linda :)
