We did plan to do our new server upgrade over xmas but hey, theres only so many times you can try and approve new images and get 'No more more memory' errors, so..    this past weekend was one of trials and tribulations, DNS and FTP.    A definite potential for causing a stroke in otherwise healthy photo agency types.

Nonetheless, it is done: Zymmetrical is now running on brand new dual-processor servers at one of the best agencies around.  Please let us know what you think.. I for one spent the first while browsing the site with my jaw dropped, thinking 'Did this page really just load this quick?'

'Throw hardware at it' is an age old server admin solution, and we have done this in spades. Yes, you can juggle marketing strategies all you want, but if the client can't load the page then you are out of luck, period.  Anyone got some some life-affirming feedback?!

Great to hear about the update the pages are loading indeed much faster ;D
Since I have you here, any update on the approval times, some of my  pictures are in the queue for a month now
Thanks!

...at least twice as fast, however, review times rival StockXpert for speed (not a good thing). Have had images in Q for over 7 weeks...

Thats great to hear.

We are really not 'live' in the sense that we can live up to any claims of 100% efficiency at this point (hence, Zymmetrical "Beta"). Every day so much is changing, that it's really hard to focus on things like expanding editorial staff. We have a really big backlog in the queue as you well know, and some day soon we will be able to deal with these incoming submissions as normal agencies do.

We could all drop everything for a few days and push through a few thousand approvals, but then there's still broken thumbs in some peoples accounts, our new advanced search to complete, on and on. If I could show you a graph our approval rate it would show a sharp increase lately.. nothing interesting for people with none pushed through yet, but we are definitely moving up the pile.

Consider any uploaded files as an investment in the future - we value them all but are trying to balance out all aspects of the business as we get this thing rolling.

Ldambies,  we pushed your photos through. It was only a few and you had nice keywords so it was pretty easy.    ;D

On another note, in the department of 'Zymmetrical CKO Paul living up to his 17 years of photo industry experience' - he noticed that our preview thumbs were not as sharp as they could be. Today after uploading a bunch of extra .ICC profile files to the servers, the image thumbs seem to be coming out just beautiful, much better crispness and depth of field.

Somebody must be doing something right at Zymmetrical since I got (to my surprise) a 10$ sale from just 4 photos uploaded as a test last September. Finally somebody who got his marketing right in "MidStock". Me guesses that ZM found an unserved audience of buyers that are willing to pay more than 1$ per shot if it's the right one and they only need a few now and then (SS's subscription being too expensive for them).

For now I personally consider ZM as a promising investment. No rush. Take it easy guys, but the clock is always ticking in Stockland. Just curious, will ZM be accepting postal DVD's as a way of submission? Could save bandwidth in case one has 500+ shots.

Checked my pending one (since half November). It's still unusually soft. Maybe the generated thumbs till now weren't included yet in the database.
FYI: this is the direct  image link on ZM, and this is how it looks at Flickr

Thanks for the positive word.

Yes I agree thats a big difference with the thumb.  That one was generated before the latest upgrades.     Note the "tn-" prefixed thumbs are also internal only in each artists's submission area so I believe they we're run at lower quality intentionally.

Rest assured these ones will come out on the live site in full quality.
