Title: Alamy, time to opt out
Post by: Josephine on April 01, 2023, 12:26
April, its time to optout "Additional revenue options".

good reminder.

At a minimum I would suggest opting out of China Distribution sales - you know the ones you get nothing for because out of a 3 cent sale the distributor gets 2 cents and Alamy gets one cent (or maybe it is the other way around).

IMO - opt-out of Distributors sales completely except maybe for a select few.

Alamy's web site is available world-wide. Why rely on an additional middle-man for sales?  The argument that Distributors help local buyers with sales just doesn't hold water IMO.

For most Alamy contributors I doubt Distributors have any real value add and aren't worth the additional commission cut they take from sales.

Well, I just got another sub 10$ distributor sale and I've been opted out for more than a year. Every time I report these Alamy just replies with a canned excuse and then just keeps doing it. This is on top of last year's huge decrease in earnings - from 3k+ to barely over 1k. This agency is becoming a joke

it's been a joke ever since PA bought them.  See their forum where they suddenly e-mail some contributors they won't accept AI images, block all discussions, and make no general announcements

Looks like you can't opt out anymore right now or again until next April?

Opt Out window now extended because Alamy is again changing their contract at expense of Contributors (more rights to ding Contributors for their inconsistant definition of exclusive/non-exclusive and unilateral rights to target Contributors clients for infringement with no warnings to the Contributors )

Correct

incorrect I have just opted out of all.  If you click the blue arrow key at the right of the country / area name you can untick any you previously opted in to (just remember to click update before leaving the page.)

Mine is all ghosted, just as they say will happen.  Although, you can OPT IN anytime.  You just can't opt out except for April.  So once you click your locations and submit, you are theoretically hosed until next April from making any opt out changes.  It really doesn't matter for me because I will never opt in to any of those revenue options again.
