Hi guys,  after moderate success selling my images on DT, SS, IS &  FT for the last 18 months I decided to see if i can get my images accepted to Almay.  I take a lot of editorial (RM) type shots around NYC and while traveling that sell well.  Is it advisable to submit RM shots for the first 4?  Should i stick to a them i.e. all NY City street shots?  or should I submit a more diversified selection of RF images?

Other then technical size requirements, how is Almays review process?    I read they look for edge to edge sharp focus...so no narrow DOF shots?

4 editorials is fine, one theme is fine, so long as the actual pictures aren't too similar.
I've never read or found that they need edge to edge sharp focus; shallow dof is fine provided the focus is in the correct place (eyes, main subject).
Big No-No: don't send photos you have anywhere else as RF to Alamy as RM.
You don't set RF/RM before submission, but if your images need MRs or PRs and you don't have them (editorial shots) they are automatically RM. When they are accepted, as you are 'managing' them, you'll be asked 'does your photo need a MR' and 'does this photo need a PR'. If yes, you upload them with the image, then decide if you will allocate them as RFor RM. If 'no' for one or the other, you tick no and the file is automatically made RM in the 'Manage Images' system.
There is no RF editorial at Alamy.

Alamy don't edit for image content, just for technical quality - dust spots, CR, focus etc. Reading the forums, the main rejection reason was 'soft and lacking definition', which is less common now that files can be accepted at 24Mb uncompressed so they don't need to be upsized to 48Mb as used to be the case for many cameras.

I've not found that.  I have also found it impossible to get a rejection there.  Anything that gets accepted by the big 4 micros should have no problems with alamy QC, as long as it's the correct size.  I do calibrate my monitor, perhaps some people that have problems with QC have their screen setup wrong?
I love reading posts by people that find alamy QC really tough, can't imagine how they would ever pass the initial test with SS.

Only send one batch at a time - if you do reject a batch they reject all your batches in the queue and I have had the odd rejection (pushing my luck)

ok.. i passed the quality test and managed my images   guess it takes a day or so before i can see them in my portfolio.  thanks guys
