Title: Refund or default?

I just got a "customer refund" notice for a sale in April 2012. I guess this notice should really read "client default" since it is utterly unreasonble to refund a sale after more than two years.  Maybe they are cleaning out the bad debts. Anybody else seeing the same?

Was this on a sale that hadn't yet cleared payment, or had it cleared and you actually had money deducted from your cleared balance?

I haven't experienced this (yet?), but my oldest uncleared sale is just under 2 years old, so maybe it will happen next year.

Nothing here, though I do have 1 uncleared sale of May 2013.
Did you receive an e-mail, or did you notice it on your "account balance" ?

account balance - I had to search the "all sales" page for the file number to find out when the sale was.

It was a file that hadn't been paid for.

Been discussed many times, their own terms say something about 30 days or something, dont know exact, but Alamy has some reason to grant them. Like big clients not using images or something vague.

Sounds like you're right, then, it's just them clearing an old, unpaid sale off their (and your) balance sheet.

If they have to do this, it seems the least they could do is send an email explaining the situation.

It's wise to send them an email asking why an image sale has not cleared.

I had a photo used in a national newspaper and 5 months after publication the money had still not cleared.

4 days after I sent the email it cleared.

I really don't think their credit control works effectively. >:(
