Title: your biggest sale on Alamy? and when was it?
Post by: dakk on December 21, 2022, 15:14
Just curious about this. Has anyone ever made a >$1000 sale?

I had two $150 (net) sales last year and they're the biggest I made so far. But this year nothing was over $100.
Started in 2017

Sorry to change the subject a bit I couldn't find the Alamy thread about sales for cents.
Having received another apologetic email from Alamy a couple of weeks ago along with a promise to pay a 100% commission on the Chinese distributor sales which they acknowledged shouldn't have happened in the first place due to being opted out, Alamay have sold another 17 of my images on 28/12/2022 for a grand total of $1.10. (gross)
How many more times will we have to go through this until they fulfil their promises to respect our choice to opt out of such sales.

Same here  >:(

Right a few days after I got the email from them telling me I would be paid 100% >:( >:( >:(

"Hi Sebastian,

After working with the distributor and as a gesture of good will, we are now going to rebill these images as a top up payment in your account, with the sale price being slightly higher than previously. These aren’t new licenses but are ‘top up’ payments and you will see this reflected in your account over the coming days. This top up payment will also include the 100% commission that we were due to pay back to you from the corresponding sale(s) in September. Once again we’re sorry that this happened and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Many Thanks

Louise"

How can we have even a little trust in such companies?? Basically they are liars with no respect for our work!

also concerning are reports on their forum they sold images to their parent company for 6 cents who then syndicated the articles with image hundreds of times with no additional payment

Looks like I may have jumped the gun a bit. Having just looked again the sales are now shown as the top up amount. Having just looked back through my Alamy sales sales and there appear to be about 38 more such sales for which I have not yet been compensated.

I had 57 downloads for pennies. They all have commissions removed so these are new, not the original garbage from 4-5 months ago. I guess their "technical" problem is either not fixed on purpose or the I.T. employee needs to be fired.  I emailed Alamy but they aren't back in office until Jan 4th.  Will be interesting to see how they spin this mess.

after 5 years i deleted all my content on Alamy when they started giving away my work for 1 or two cents, and i also don't like waiting months to clear my balance,i don't care if I can opt out or not, this really shouldn't exist because I work hard and can't see my content going away for a penny.

Here's a real treat:
    4 MB
1414 x 942 pixels
150KB compressed
China,Editorial website; Top-up amount for Jun-Aug sale
$ 0.03

Here's the actual sale:
4 MB
1414 x 942 pixels
150KB compressed
China,Editorial website    $ 0.05

The images are there, they are out and in the wild, I'll take what I can get for work that's done in the past.

yes of course I understand your point of view, work is done,so why not?instead me I've lost my patience when I saw so much content go away for nothing, the fact is that unfortunately even if I think my reaction is more correct in the face of such rubbish,at the end of the day is useless and unproductive.Sad but true!

My largest one-off sale on Alamy was $113 net
Is net what Alamy paid you?

The green is what the buyer paid Alamy, the 2 red numbers are what Alamy got and what the distributor got, leaving 57.69

I have always maintained that the distributors are doing Alamy's job, so their take should come out of Alamy's cut. If they made assets and keyworded and uploaded them to my account, their take should come out of my cut. Sadly Alamy doesn't see it my way.

I just noticed that even though I deleted all my content and the 90 day period has ended, there are still sales in April and May.
therefore between cleared, uncleared balance, distributor sale,80% of net, sales under "other income" of 0,01,deleted files that are still being sold....
honestly to me this agency just seems like a big madhouse! :D
I'm more than happy to never contribute again!

The sales could have been much older than that. Alamy relies on a crappy system where customers (!) have to report that they used an image to Alamy, only then the sale will be registered to your account, not when the image is bought by the customer.
And sometimes customers take months to do that or "forget" it alltogether.

Had to contact Alamy more than once about this when I found images of mine credited to Alamy being used online, but the image was never sold according to my Alamy dashboard.  ::)

What's the deal with video sales? Yes, Alamy does not accept it as far as I know. But he used to accept videos for sale. Maybe someone managed to upload a video there before.

ok so when sales are reported in the dashboard it's not even the exact day the sale was made?Really a messy system, and also a big mockery of these sales under the "other income" of 0.01, I don't know how they can call this "income".
the real problem here is the law that allows these things, because creating content is a job like any other and must be respected and regulated in a fair and correct way,it is right that agencies have their own freedoms but up to a certain point,in this days they are trampling human rights in the light of day.

Absolutely the top negative points and 100% accurate. Only one left out was Alamy trying to prosecute for use of an exclusive image, when it was licensed, within the allowed terms, directly by the artist.

My biggest Alamy sale was in 2022, for $75.

20% since Alamy was sold to PA Media Group. February 2020. But that's not totally accurate, because the fist announcement was "we have no plans to change the way artists are paid" Which is a nice way to sidestep, we're working on the new lower commissions, but haven't made the precise plans yet. It took some time, before they dropped the bomb on us. Don't blame the old Alamy. This is what usually happens when anyone buys a business and knows there's a way to extract more income by making changes in commissions.

$15 is what it would be now, until you reach $250 in Net sales (not commissions) then it goes up to 40%. It's got some rather different conditions and not everything is the same.

https://www.alamy.com/blog/new-contributor-commission-structure (https://www.alamy.com/blog/new-contributor-commission-structure)

Gold: All existing contributors start on Gold or above, on the core 40% commission rate. New contributors start on Gold too. If you sell more than $250 gross in 12 months with us, then you’ll stay on Gold. 40% and 34% for affiliates

Silver: After 1 year selling with us – or from July 2022 for existing contributors – you’ll move to Silver and a 20% commission rate if you’ve sold less than $250 gross on Alamy in the previous 12 months. Hitting $250 gross sales immediately moves you back up to Gold. 20% and 17%

But the percentage for affiliate is taken out after their cut, so it's 17% of what's left after the affiliate cut, not the sale price.

20% is comparable to the industry, if you consider that Microstock pays that (and reminder Alamy is not Microstock?)  ;) 40% is better than most, including Adobe. But Adobe is still my best because of the number of sales at a favorable commission percentage. Alamy pays when the total due reaches $50

Thought crossed my mind more than once.  It says in usage field "Indoor, Wall Decor".  But old Canon 6D image was taken with is just 20 Megapixel, can't make very large print out of it.  So it's bit of mystery.   Perhaps it has some sentimental factor because of that "Trail adopted by John Tomlinson" table,  which is not there anymore.

I fully expected it was a mistake and there would be a refund.  But it cleared within a month.  Interesting enough, photo was simple point and shoot, taken for documentation of my hiking exploits.  At the end I didn't even use it for hiking page

Used different shot I thought was better (1st in gallery) which was uploaded for stock too,  never got even 10 Shutterstock cents.   So you never really know much in this business

Very nice!  Alamy is totally unpredictable.   I had good run first half of last year, then like someone just pulled the plug in 2nd half.

Alamy Rank is super important there, and CTR has big impact on the rank.  My CTR plunged since July/August and this can't be a coincidence.  It's now rebounding again, we'll see what happens.

Rkz91:  Alamy shows gross sale amount.  What you get paid depends on the tier you are in.  Most people that have semi regular sales will be in 40% tier nowdays

On Stockimo, their iPhone site which is now closing down, I had a sale with $327 net to me last month. I was nervous about if I'd be paid but I received $343 in my paypal account this week (includes a couple small sales from the past few months). The most I've received for a single license there. I get a 50% commission on Stockimo so they licensed the image for ~$750 (on Stockimo they report the net you receive rather than their full commission). I was very pleased.

Although the tiny licenses are aggravating, I get a few $$$ licenses every year, and enough high $$ licenses to make it worthwhile.

I think I took almost that exact photo when I was there - not as good a sky though. I don't think I even bothered to upload it. This can be a pretty random business.
