I'm getting images accepted OK - but sales are very sluggish and not consistent.

There are several ongoing threads about changes at BigStock.  The site founder/owner Tim has responded to a number of recent changes.

A quick read through the latest forum topics on this issue will probably answer your questions.

Hardly any rejections.  Downloads are a bit down this month but it is January and my sales are normally higher in the spring and Autumn.

No rejections.
Most income from 3-5 single shots.
No downloads from shots < 1 year.
-> Something odd going on with the search engine.

I haven't experienced any changes there either.

That's why I left after getting the payout made up by 3-4 photos from 500. The others didn't even get views, most of them. IT IS something VERY wrong with their search engine. I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone.

That is not my experience, I get sales on a huge variety of images there.  They are one of the sites that is worth uploading to.

I also observe a few images making most of my sales. I don't see anything strange  in their search tool though - maybe I missing something? Still, BigStock gives me very reasonable results.

I sell a large variety of images on BigStock. About 600 different images sold out of 2121 images today. Most are in the $1.00 to $15.00 per dl.

Search is in the process of being changed very soon. (See other posts about BigStock.)

BigStock does not have subs and that is great. I hate subs! I think subs at .25 or .30 each saturate the buyers with too much cheap shots and they would pay more if subs were not available.

I'm happy at BigStock and I will stick with them.

Just my thoughts!

While I had a very positive development with BS last autumn, I'm around 30% below January 2008 at this point, which is rather disappointing and not in line with most of my other sales. I have also seen an increase in rejections, but nothing dramatic.

Am I reading this wrong or did you get 600 dls today.  If so Wow and how many images do you have total.
I'ts by far my lowest earning site with only 123 coming anywhere near as low but it has picked up quite a bit this month and I'm getting 5-7 dls a day instead of just 2 or 3.
Also where do these 15$ sales come from the most I ever get is 2$.

I understood this as "of the 2121 images I have today, about 600 had sales".  Not sales in one day.

If I am wrong, Larry must be the king of BigStock!   ;D

Phew, I thought that I was doing really bad if somebody is getting 600 a day.  ;D
I thought that you might be one of those big groups that have put huge portfolios on micro sites.

I have always been a fan of BigStock since the beginning.  IMO they are a very contributor friendly site.  Not my biggest earner, but a nice place to be involved with and a very fair system and friendly, responsive contributor service.

I definitely have seen some sales improvement the past couple of days.  Not sure if their new marketing initiatives have had a chance to kick in yet, but hopefully so.  If this is a sign of the sales levels we can expect going forward then BigStock will be moving up my sales chart!

after reading the email from the CEO of BigStock, i woke up this morning full of optimisim. rush to my computer as my breakfast was warming up in the microwave. checked my status in BigStock:
"Snapshot composition: This image is more of a snapshot than a marketable stock image. Overall problems can include poor lighting, poor composition, non-interesting subject matter, etc."
argggghhh ! you're still there??? i thought the big change included getting rid of you!!
some things never changed, ie death, income tax, PMS...

I agree. BigStock, while not my top earner, is probably one of my favorite sites. The sales are very consistent (and growing), and Tim and the crew are very nice people to deal with.

I noticed that the tightening of reviewing standards seem to relax a bit in late December .. I had gotten to a point where I was only sending them things approved by IS .. but things seem to be easier there as of late (or maybe I am slowly just a touch enough better to past muster at BigStock) ..

I despise the use of the word "Snapshot" by their reviewers .. and the thing that strikes me is that they must have enough experience in this industry to understand how that word can be taken .. so in my opinion they are making a conscious decision to try to amplify the impact of those rejections by using that word ... to what end I have no clue.

I haven't had a problem with rejections at BS. Downloads are a bit slow, but I saw that as just ebb and flow. Not a top earner, but I've always been happy with BS -and I also like the fact that they don't offer subscriptions.

John, yes, I have to admit getting a rejection like "this is a snapshot" is not just a bit condescending
but also rather vague . I prefer it when the reviewer is more specific , rather than fudge around with their rejections. I like BigStock as they are communicative, but that reviewer should be informed to ease off with this rather unpalatable rejection reason. leave a bad taste in many contributors mouth I am sure. Understandably, no one wants to be told he/she shoots snapshots.
The natural response would be a flat, "oh really, then why am I wasting my time here with you?
I'll submit my SNAPSHOT elsewhere ..."

Me too. Checked the search engine and it works fine, but it's still those 5 odd pictures. My guess is that they're not sold on BigStock but on one of their "secret" affiliate sites that pick out a few of what they like.  :P
Remember all the fuzz about an affiliate site a couple of years ago?
I don't care, money is money.

I have this for most sites.  about a dozen or so images making the majority of my income for that site. ironically it is different images on different sites
