FTP Broken at Bigstock

Anyone else having problems? My ftp queue gets stuck 2-3 times a week. For a few weeks, I would click on contact us and a live chat popped up. Liz jumped in and got it fixed. Last week or so, someone else handled it and it's taking a lot longer to get fixed. Today, the live chat was replaced with a generic form.

Hhuu? Bigstock? Who`s this? Anybody still uploading there` ::)

dbvirago

Apparently not. Every time I report the problem, I'm the only one that notices.

For me, they far outsell iStock and are on a par with FT, and, when it works, are much easier to upload to.

I still upload but don't use FTP.

Their FTP system seems to be broken - the ftp works ok, but then nothing happens for a long time. I gave up and used the web uploader. I took a few weeks off and when I came back the ftp images had been transferred over.

Ive always found Bigstocks ftp unreliable

Anita Potter

I had issues with it this past monday as well.  Gave up and went to the web uploader.  It was refusing to connect to the server critical server error and other things I can't remember that my ftp program was telling me.  I really wanted to use the FTP to because it's quicker than the web uploader and half the time when I'm uploading via the web they'll all be uploaded but the uploader will still be running.  The only time I find this out is when I open the site in a new window.

Also gave up on their FTP long time ago. Give it a try every now and then, just to get reminded why I upload through the site's direct interface in stead (and even find that normally very slow as well).

Hi Folks,

We've reset the FTP server which should resolve these issues. Sorry about that. Is anyone still having troubles? If so, please send us a quick email ([email protected]) or let us know via live chat (which is on during EST business hours). Thanks for your patience.

Will give it another try, thank you Boris.

Boris, unfortunately the FTP upload still performs as badly as usual. From the 15 sites I upload to, Bigstock's FTP is by far the worst. It takes about 5 resumes for every file before it is completed and takes ages. The speed drops constantly below 1kBps. I thought it is only me, as I have a very slow 384kB line, but it seems from above members that I am not alone. Maybe you should look into your FTP server's setup/software and infrastructure.

Shout if you need assistance in testing any changes you might make. Will gladly help.

Thanks for giving it a try CD123. If you open terminal or command prompt and run "ping ftp.bigstockphoto.com" could you let me know what the results are? Is anyone else also having a similar issue?

Cheers,
- Boris

Hi Boris

Ping results:
Reply from 64.34.58.72: bytes=32 time=853ms TTL=48
Repeated 4x with 0% loss.
Round trip:
Minimum=690ms, Maximum=924ms, Average=804ms

Hi Charl,

Unfortunately that does seem very slow (greater than 500ms is generally indicative of a problem). We might be having an issue because of your internet connection. Are you able to run the ping command for an ftp server you don't have problems uploading to and paste the results?

Thanks again,
- Boris

Was running an upload simultaneous with yours to anther site, so this is a good comparison (same traffic load, etc.):

Reply from 93.158.120.131: bytes=32 time=251ms TTL=53
4x with 0% loss
Round trip:
Min.=241ms, Max. =251ms and Ave.=244ms

Completed uploading to them same files without any resumes at all. Ran at constant 13mBps without fluctuating much.

Hope that helps.

Make that rather 13kBPs  ;D

Hmm, yes your ping times are much better for the other site. What part of the world are you in, and who is your internet service provider? Looks like they might be having a routing issue getting to our servers. Hmmm.

I am in South Africa with MWEB as service provider, but as mentioned, it is only your site and it seems like I am not the only one. Think some of the members confirming problematic uploading is American (maybe they can also confirm their locations here and run pings to see what they get).

borism

It might be worth contacting MWEB to ask if they have any ideas. Getting ping times from other users would also be helpful. Sorry about the troubles for now Charl.

CD123

Anyone else prepared to help out here with a ping result?

Microbius

Haven't used ftp for BS for a while, was always running into problems with vector uploads so use the web form uploader now, with no issues.

Here's a ping, using Terminal, from Charter Cable in the south US:

64 bytes from 64.34.58.72: icmp_seq=0 ttl=46 time=54.182 ms

Hope that helps.

Hi Boris

I logged into a second account I have with a different ISP. Here is the ping results:
Reply from 64.34.58.72: bytes=32 time=877 TTL=51
Reply from 64.34.58.72: bytes=32 time=819 TTL=51
Reply from 64.34.58.72: bytes=32 time=724 TTL=51
Reply from 64.34.58.72: bytes=32 time=651 TTL=51

0% loss

Min.=651, Max.=877 and Ave.=767

I think, based on all the feedback from different contributors here, you can assume you do have a problem with your FTP services, which definitely needs your attention.

Will go a long way in making uploading to your site an easier process. Send me a personal message if you need further assistance.

Best of luck

Charl

Managed to upload 8 files before being booted off (as usual) is there an alternative to Filezilla?

jm

I'm on Mac and I can't upload with CyberDuck to BigStock (425 Unable to build data connection: No route to host).  "Transmit" software usually - but not always - works.
