It is tax time, and I have a big refund due. And my poor old 300D is so full of dust it takes longer to patch all the spots in Photoshop than it is worth.

There are a few deals on the Canon 30D at the moment. I do not have any decent lenses, but can anyone give me a reason why I should look at another brand instead of the Canon 30D? With an IS lens (28-135) the deal comes in at around $2300.

Excellent choice!

But rumors are going on about a new model that would replace later this year the 30D...

Check here:

So, in my opinion,  that means 2 things: 1. If you prefer the latest model, wait a few months; and 2. if you don't, then Canon will surely offer great deals on the 30D when they will announce the new model... so wait a few months!

That's why I'm waiting to replace my own Rebel XT!

I agree with Le C - apparently the 30D is a great camera, but it must surely be replaced soon when you consider that the 400D is 10mp.

In the meantime David you could take your existing camera to Anderson Camera at Capalaba who for a small fee will clean it in a day and return it to you like brand spanking new.  I take my D200 there and I am always amazed when it comes back completely spotless.  They are the authorised Nikon service centre for Queensland but do the same work on Canon and other makes.

I just replaced my 300D a few weeks ago. Sensor was off a couple degrees and the processor kept freezing on me.

Decided to get a Rebel XT for $499.00 from B&H as a mid-term replacement until the 30D upgrade or the next generation Rebel gets spot metering. Couldn't justify the extra money for the XTi.

or wait for the updated 30D and learn to clean the camera yourself.  It really isn't that hard once you do it a couple times...

are you in europe or the states?

I have a camera cleaning equipment store at

http://www.rentkamera.no/

if you are in europe, otherwise, BH photo has a ton of stuff.

I agree - there really is nothing to it. Even doing something as simple as getting in there with a strong blower goes a long, long way.

Well, I wanted to wait for the 40D and played with the thought to get the 5D. But the 5D was just to expensive and I was too impatient to wait for the 40D. My old D60 did not work right anymore, problems with the autofocus and flash syncronization so I got my new 30D 3 days ago. My first impression was it was totally worth it. There is such a huge difference to my D60. It is sooo fast!!
The only advantage I would like to have about the soon to come 40D would be the more MPs and the dustcleaning. But I heard that dustcleaning is not really working so well..
If the 40D will be a huge step forward, I might get this one mid next year or so, if my photography earnings will justfy that. The advantage will be, that Canon probably would have sorted all the problems out which a new camera might have when it enters the market. By now I am happy with the descision, especially that I can use my flash now. And since I have my first wedding to shoot I think it is good to do this with the new camera and flash.

Penguins get married?

And the 20D/30D is a great camera, although my 20D is back focusing a bit, it's on it's second shutter and still going strong..  I'll put up with the back focus for a few more months and send it to Canon for a service me thinks.  About the same time I decide if I buy another body...

Thanxs sharply, by the way I created two of the images you suggested me to do.
:D no, not penguins, but thanxs for that idea, I should try to do a penguin wedding on Photoshop ;)
@ Leaf, I do not know if I would need something from your online shop in future, but I would be more tempted if you would include EURO prices, as well as shipping costs in EUROS. Its a nice site.

Here another 40D rumor site: http://pma-rumours.blogspot.com/

Can't comment on the inns and outs of sensor cleaning because I've never had to do it shooting with an Olympus E500. I am however thinking of upgrading to the E510 shortly - thinking that the in camera IS and reduced noise will be worthwhile.
