A response to low priced D60 probably. How many entry DSLR models do we need? Wish the would announce something new in the mid class.

Thanks for the info... I'm afraid that whit all these new amateur DSLR, the line of the sensor performance between amateur and semi-pro or even pro become thiner. The amateur ones are upgrading each years while the D300-D3-40D-MarkIII-5D- only change once every 3 to 5 years.

I see on the same site the performance of the D60 and I asked myself if it was worthy to have pay around a thousand dollar more for a D300 whit a burst of 6 images/second and a magnesium body. The iso performance are equivalent to my opinion.

Shame on me...

They make a lot of money from the low budget cameras. That money is then used to develop better features, sensor, that are then sold in higher level cameras. Then their features are slowly passed to the new series of low budget cameras, which brings money,...

The thing that's worrying me is that D60 and 1000D offer a lot for almost the same price as the best compact cameras. My first sony compact was more expensive than D60 with 2 lenses atm. Which means more people with DSLRs, more people wanting to earn some $, more competition in stock,...

don't you think stock photography takes more than a DSLR?especially considering continuously rising standards and there is already a big competition among sites and contributers.I wouldn't worry that much even  if all consumers got a DSLR instead of compact cameras. just my two cents.

What is worse for the current contributors:
- few people with dslr, most photographers just do family photography
- masses getting dslrs (china, russia for example, some talented artist are already emerging from there)

Example: 3 million people with 10 good pictures = 30 million good pictures. Simple maths.

Once upon a time manufacturers gave a toss about loyal purchases of their products. They were built on quality and meant to last for years.

Now they are just expensive consumables, support for the product is lost as soon as the next model arrives.

I have used Pentax and Canon since 1987, maybe with the release of the Sony full frame, that loyalty will end.

I am still waiting for a reply from Canon after I bought my 30D, they simply do not care any more. It is all about the next sale.

I see your point but I don't think just not owning a DSLR would be the biggest obstacle  they need to overcome if you talk of people  who could not joing microstock business because  are restricted with  financial matters  I believe they would need more equipment than just a camera(as we all know)which would cost  a lot more than the cameras itself.(lights, lenses, computer, softwares, internet connection etc.

anyway this is very hypothetical argument  I don't know may be your opinion may turn out to be true, but to me it's very unlikely. if what you said came true than there wouldn't be any point doing stock photography anymore.not even for those 3million great artists.
besides there is nothing we can do about it.

@stokfoto: Look at the number of images that get accepted every week. On SS it was 50,980. Thats 2.5 million per year or if this will help to see what's happening: the number of photos will almost double in the next year. And that extimate doesn't include any growth of number of photographers or the number of images that current users submit. The growth of number of pics and number of photographers isn't linear. More likely it's quadratic (hope I got the word right), cubic or even exponential. Keep in mind that China is having a technological revolution right now. They are quickly developing, which will bring computers, internet, software to more photographers. Now what happens if you add cheap DSLR to that list?

@CofkoCof
well,I agree with you to some point but what can we do about it?I think above all what matters is the skills.if you(we)are good enough you'd survive in the micro jungle.but I am not that concerned about the Chinese or some other nation dominating the market.no offense to Asian-far eastern people but can you imagine having all  business shots having models only from these countries,
to sum up yes you are right day by day there is  more competition in the market but I don't think it can be any worse than any other businesses and like in any other business,(especially considering that microstock is a kind of open  business to anyone) so  those who succeeds would carry on and those who fails would be out of it.but I do understand your concerns  about having too many contributers, which would mean too many people sharing just crumbles from the same little pie.and it would be the sites and buyers who would benefit from it.anyway even if that happens there will always some sort of photographic job to do.

The point I wanted to make is that it's getting harder and harder to be seen, to keep producing enough images to increase your share of pie (or even to stay on the same level as before). Quality is what makes the difference, that's why we have to make better and more pictures, illustrations,...  and see what that brings us ;D

I think stock will soon chage. How? I don't know. How soon? Don't know that either. Let's wait and see.
