Hello,
I now upload photos to more than 15 stock sites and on all of them I can see why an image is rejected from time to time.
Only on Canva about 95% of my images are rejected within 2-3 seconds of appearing in the image list and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I have added a few examples in images below - different areas like background textures, silhouettes and my last Tenerife holidays :-)
(These images have been accepted 90%+ on about 15 pages).
Does anyone perhaps have a good tip as to why almost everything is rejected within a few seconds and how to get images through there?
Thank you,
Michael

Canva always had pretty random (to me) rejections. I have given up with uploading there.
-
Are the silhouettes jpgs or pngs with transparent background? Canva does not accept images with objects isolated on white background, it has to be transparent.
I would not know about the other images. I don't think they break any "rule", but I don't really see them as very suitable for Canva. Canva isn't a typical microstock agencie where people buy photos, but where people design stuff, so they are looking for "design elements". I can't really see these images being used for things like posters, websites, greeting cards, booklets or multimedia presentations.
-
It's not just "instant" rejections, but also rejections of accepted images : I still upload there, and about 80% gets accepted, BUT my total number of accepted images goes DOWN instead of up. So I can only conclude that they are rejecting older images, or "cleaning up" my port.

Thanks, that are really good hints - the silhouettes are not transparent, I will try that - should be done within some minutes :-)
A large amount of my images (20%+) is backgrounds and textures, where I thought those are design elements - maybe they are just over saturated with that.

Sorry for probably asking (I really don't find Canva's Contributor interface intuitive) - but where can I see the number of assets I've accepted?

For that, I only have this link :
www.canva.com/p/xxxx/ (http://www.canva.com/p/xxxx/) (and xxx is your contributor name)

That working fine - thank you :-)

Canva's user interface is the opposite of intuitive for me. I bookmarked links to most of the things I want to see, but I still have to look around and click to get there because of how their pages work.
I also just checked how many items I have - down 97 from last time I checked. I have no idea what has been removed or why.
Clear communication is not their strong point.

I have a fairly high percentage of images accepted on Canva, but even to me acceptance seems largely random. I'm not trying to find logic in it anymore, just upload and forget is the best strategy.

agreed - i stopped uploading for awhile when the rejection rate changed so drastically, and now it's my lowest priority. it may just be that they've become more selective than other agencies for topics they already have 'sufficient' coverage. their audience is very different from the other agencies & that may affect their decisions.

I tried my luck again with 100 backgrounds (made with camera and not with AI) and within 2 seconds (looked at the clock) 94 were rejected and I don't even see a rejection reason - but how to add a rejection reason in 2 seconds too ;-)
In an upload before that, about 20 of 150 images had come at least after "in review" - 2 days later these 18 were also rejected -> rejection rate 99%.
And no, I upload there only things that were accepted on the relevant agencies without major problems.
Uploading anything on Canva really doesn't make sense anymore and if you then take into account the rip-off with the "one-time AI boost payment".
And what really surprises me - Canva doesn't seem to care at all, otherwise someone from there would have surely said something about it - because they are reading along here :-)
Happy Halloween,
Michael
PS: And yes, of course I realize that I am far too unimportant to interest anyone there - but you could also just say that, would at least be honest :)

Thanks for your PM, i just replied and hopefully the reply did reach you (didn't get a confirmation).
Looking forward what the reason for the rejection was :-)

Danny - this has been going on for months - almost all of anybatch is reject almost before they're submitted! the few that get thru take a day or more for an actual review - so something non-human seems to be at work here. meanwhile these images are accepted elsewhere -- realizing canva has different needs/reqs, but nothing so drastic as what's happening
in addition my portfolio lost 1400 images in may then and despite uploasding hundreds of imagers since then only 2 or 3 images acceptedf per batch aand overall a net loss of another 60 since may
meanwhile i had 2500 accepted by SS and over 600 by AS (with 500 waiting for review)

same with me. I am doing the full time microstock for 14 years (a recent interview with me - https://www.microstockgroup.com/general-photography-discussion/interview-with-dmitry-rukhlenko-veteran-travel-microstocker-$500k/ (https://www.microstockgroup.com/general-photography-discussion/interview-with-dmitry-rukhlenko-veteran-travel-microstocker-$500k/)), and have almost 100% acceptance rate everywhere. But Canva rejects 99% of my uploads in a second after I've uploaded them. I am earning $300-$400 a month with Canva and absolutely sure that I (and equally Canva) would earn more if my images were not rejected.
-
Very good to know I am not alone with that strange rejection behaviour.
Thanks@All
-
Today another try with 8 images - 100% rejections within <5 seconds. :o
-
I can't grow my portfolio on Canva anymore either because of constant rejections (99% 😫). Seriously considering giving up on them soon.
-
I'm also in the same boat. The Canva system is completely strange. All the images i upload on Canva are accepted on all other sites, but on Canva they get rejected within seconds after upload. The worst thing is that the images were uploaded to Canva in full size and resolution and are therefore on Canva's servers. Even when rejected, nobody knows what happens to them. In addition, you have no possibility to delete images from Canva anyway. This is another phenomenon that worries me. Over the last few days i have repeatedly started new tests with uploads, even uploading the same images with slightly different file names ... all in vain, because here too they were rejected immediately after uploading. The question is whether it is simply certain keywords that are responsible for the rejections or whether the AI at Canva is programmed incorrectly ... very disappointing experience and not really worth the effort (anymore).
-
I have now done some more upload tests and almost no file came through.
There were many different photo motifs - backgrounds, artwork, landscape, isolated objects, hands, technology, solar and many other things.
Rejection rate >98% and almost all images rejected within 3-5 seconds.
It's probably time to give up because it really makes no sense at all.
And we don't hear anything from the official side either - apparently they just don't want our assets, which is a shame.
Have a nice day@all
By the way: About 20 isolated png's are in review now for weeks there
-
@DannyCanva:
Is there any information about this upload problem?
I have now tried again with about 200 files, including photos, textures, backgrounds, artwork of animals, abstracts, ...
It simply rejects almost everything - 1 of my photos made it to approved, out of the 200 or so files.
Let me ask you directly:
- Is my material too bad?
- Does Canva simply not want new material?
- Am I doing something wrong with the upload?
I don't understand it :-)
Have a sunny day@all,
Michael
Btw: The isolated png's are still in review...
-
just uploaded 2 batches of 49 - all but 1 rejected immediately - enuf of this nonsense with no reaction from Danny - no more uploads until they get this fixed (dont know why it took me so long)
-
Btw: The isolated png's are still in review...
Today after almost 2 month waiting time my transparent png's got 100% rejected.
It is really incomprehensible what the goal of Canva is?
Here in the forum nobody answers, in the support nobody answers and images are almost 100% immediately rejected by some automatic system.
Dear Canva team,
have you become so indifferent to us that we are no longer even worthy of a short reply?
If so, all you have to do is say so and you'll be rid of us in no time :-)
Have a sunny day,
Michael

When I was last doing shutterstock, it seemed to be the same for videos & images. Got rather pointless uploading there, so don't anymore. (Aside from them of course, minimizing the value/payouts to contributors, & doing shady tactics, which of course are also other reasons).
-
Yeah, same here, 3 approved out of 100 sent this past week.
-
i knew it was hopeless but i asked 'support' (when i finally found the hidden link) why all are being rejected & i got the ridiculous answer that they were rejected for quality!
-
Only 4 approved out of 7 for my last batch. Seems to be that time when sites were accepting flood of low quality stuf is finished. Maybe not a so bad news. Now, they should clean the database too.
-
After hundreds of my pictures were rejected within 2-5 seconds, I tried myself at a new discipline today and made some "different" pictures.
What we see there is Gaussian distributed image noise and different colors and sizes - or in short random numbers.
6 images submitted and none of them were immediately rejected?!
(see attached image)
Unfortunately I didn't get an answer from the support either, so I guess I'll have to find out for myself what else is accepted.
To be continued...

These images give me serious VCR tracking issue flashbacks.

About 12 hours later the images got rejected (of course) ;-)
-
I'd asked how images could be rejected seconds after being uploaded - here's 'Ivy's response
The Canva Content team aims to build a diverse and expansive library where users would be able to find the most amazing and relevant images they can use for their every designing need. While we appreciate the artistic mind and tireless efforts our contributors put in every image they submit to us, we need to ensure they pass our quality guidelines.
We've reviewed your most recent image submission and found that most of them do not adhere to the Canva image quality standards. Based on overall artistic appeal, usability and technical quality, we are unable to accept them into the library.
You may refer to our Contributor Quality Guidelines for Photos and Graphics for your reference.
I'm now closing this for now, but feel free to reach out should you have another question or concern. We'd be more than happy to help!
We appreciate your understanding.
of course they didnt answer my basic question
in addition, i pointed out those guidelines didnt contain anything relevant to image contributors
-
@Cascoly
Thank you for sharing!
That's what I call a terse response with a standard answer.
But at least I now know what answer I will get, if they ever respond to my support request on this topic.
With every further attempt to place images there, I get the impression that they want to get rid of us (which I would understand in purely economic terms) - but then where are the images supposed to come from?
Because let's be honest, the AI offered by Canva doesn't even begin to replace any photos at the moment.
@DannyCanva:
In case the contributors are of any interest to you, a statement here would be really helpful :-)
Have a sunny day@all

next response from canva 'support':
We'll forward your feedback to our team about the review process. We improved our tools which caused efficient review turnaround time. This is because of the backlog we encountered in the last few months.
rejecting everything will certainly reduce the backlog!
-
We improved our tools which caused efficient review turnaround time.
a.k.a. "We use AI to review images instantly and filter out images the AI consideres as not suitable before the rest is passed on to the real human reviewers".
-
I for one am done with Canva - I got about 40-60 images through out of the last 2,000 or so I submitted, everything else was rejected instantly.
I get no response from support and the Magic Creator payment percentages are so absurdly low that it's not even worth talking about ($0.25 last month on 10k assets).
Then the royalty earnings are also lower every month, even if the applies and exports increase.
It just doesn't make sense if you can't get your material on the site and since obviously nobody from Canva cares either, it doesn't matter.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.
