Title: 101$ after 2 years
Post by: christiano on August 01, 2019, 07:35
After 2 years, with a port around 1800 pictures, I finally received my 100$... the day after the collection, I erased all my photos, one by one. Adios Dreamstime. I received a lot more money from my other 3 agencies ... I still have a balance of $ 1.05, I leave it to you Dreamstime, I think you need it more than me!

Your decision to leave Dreamstime was because it was not making as much money as the other sites you're with.

So you decided to punish them by removing your images? And in pursuit of punishing them, you punished yourself by spending days deleting 1800 images one by one. It's incredible how much time people have.

Why waste all of your time deleting your images after only 2 years? Dreamstime never was the biggest earner but deleting your port out of spite, rather than just leaving it there for some passive pocket money is just senseless.

Click through Terms and Conditions agreements are not benign.  They are one sided and unilaterally changeable by the agencies.  I have not given up on Dreamstime but I do and will continue to remove all content from agencies I do abandon.

same fluctuation as me (a little bit more for you)... I did not think it was worth the effort. I do not want to scatter my pictures everywhere ... so I stay with the top 3 ... and Alamy who still gives me a good income.

Technically, if he had a 6-month lag between uploads he could have just requested account deletion as opposed to manually doing a deletion of one-by-one.  But either way, I think his post is a good one for future contributors who are trying to convince themselves DT is worth spending the time working with.  They have been horrible for me. I used to make about $200 a month there with about 2800 images, now I make $15-$30  month with somewhat more images. They for sure are hurting and the revenue drop is an insight to their future. Either the revenue is there and my work is being drowned by the upload volume or its usefulness has been outlived.  DT is on par with 123. I really no longer make a monthly payout at either site.  My existing port on DP makes 2-3X those two sites.  11 years in this micro biz and I have seen really nothing but a race to the bottom except for a few video sites like SB who now we know the reason why.  I pulled my port from them after their last debacle. My 4-8 video sales a month there went to 1 per quarter.

So my point is that I am more interested in what contributors end up doing with an agency than how they do it.  My sales will eventually be meaningless at 123 and DT (and probably elsewhere) and I will have a decision to make (as will other contributors).  Do I keep my content there hoping someone will buy up DT or 123? If they are dying, I don't see it happening.  But, perhaps my port gets automatically pulled in somewhere more fruitful, like "www.makeamilliononnicrostock.com".

Be nice old timer... LOL.... the Gazillion Newbies with very little talent knew enough to know they knew more than you and had a "community" by cult like followers of Bruce at Istock and thought they were the cats whiskers.... That was the new blood. Apparently they knew it all and selling work based on volume and for low pricing and subscription rates... blah blah blah... WE are old school from the days when your personal editor called you and encouraged you how to be better or improve, not the sugar coated new bloods that need to be mollycoddled because they might cry if they are not accepted.

I hate this phrase.... But I told you so!

And what new blood, worth mentioning did we get in this industry?

Stocksy.

Hipster driven (not that Getty is any better tbh, but at least not that artsy-fartsy), closed, cult-like community, where nothing is ever heard from. Like some super secret organization where you cannot guess, nor see if it's worth it at all. Somebody would think they know how to make millions, but truth is probably other ways around and are playing on a prestige card.
To be clear, I have nothing against high standards, selections and tests. But we know nothing about them except that they play "cool". You see some of their artists that have very mediocre, almost instragram quality work. Who buys that? If it does, is it worth it? Silence.

The cult of Stocksy or shall we say the followers of the community leader are silent cause there is nothing to report over there. Do a little digging over at Alexa and Stocksy is barely a bleep in the radar of stock photography.
