Great it was solved this way, in this particular case. I think on the DT forum there was a discussion about how to recover his tutorials and somebody that was in email contact with his friend mentioned there were no heirs. In general though, there must be cases where earnings are never claimed. Bonds and bank accounts are unclaimed for 1%.

No need. It will teach me not to believe every statement on forums.
I missed the thread about the revived tutorials by Arena. Thanks for that.
I always considered him as a genius and I liked his wicked sense of humor. Great guy, TheMissed.

here is miz' portfolio http://www.dreamstime.com/rjmiz_info

it doesn't look like he has any free images.  There is someone taking care of his account though, so perhaps they disabled any images which were destined for the free bin - or perhaps he hasn't had any 'no sale' images.

hi, I have one question
I have few images, which now are 4 years old, but they are exclusive
if I move them to free section, will they stay exclusive?

If you have legal rights to the account, please contact the sites your father contributed to directly. We are just microstock users here and really have no knowledge or any business with anyone's legal dealings.

To all: I apologize for my off-topic response to baby.miz

Jennifer,

I have often wondered this myself. Your father was not exclusive so it will be difficult at best to try and track down all of his sites. I would venture to guess that he was on 10-15 sites at a minimum. If there was an estate attorney I would check with them. If his accounts were not properly disclosed into this estate I can see where it could get real nasty ... especially if someone did a quick grab of his computer and or was able to retrieve his account IDs and passwords. On the other hand ... it was my guess that MIZ knew he was dying. He once spoke of trying to sell everything for an insanely low number.

It is also possible he voluntarily transferred his digital properties to someone prior to his death without it being in a will or without other instructions. This would likely difficult to disprove if the have physical possession of any of his assets or paid, or cared for him in any way.

My guess is that someone may be pocketing MIZ's royalties without a formal transfer or property at each agency. Only the agencies would know if this has taken place or not.

My advice to you would be to contact an attorney if you think you are the rightful heir to his digital assets. Your view may be opposed especially if you weren't close to him. Whether your his daughter or not would certainly come into question, but more importantly, whether or not you are the legal heir with the proper paperwork will be the agencies primary concern.

Did you ask your sister?

melastmohican

I haven't done  stock for full 2 years. I will not do anything unless they make me do it. Otherwise I want my images to be online till the end of time :-)

This is a very UNFUNNY hoax...

This thread diverted from the original discussion.

I got two warnings for "online for more than 4 years with no downloads".

Are you guys deleting the old images?  Using keyword master (I would not)?  Reuploading them?  I would not donate them. One still has occasional sales at other sites.

I delete them...  ;D
Main reason, it's not because a certain image doesn't sell at DT it doesn't sell on other stock sites.
What if an image with no downloads on DT is actually amongst your best selling at SS.....?..  Aren't you shooting in your own foot by donating it to the free section on DT...?.  :-\

Further more, not a single site has shown me in the past that donating images for free could, would and shall improve my sales.
The only ones having profit from it is the Site its self.... traffic... free grabbers.

Short story... When 123 started their free section I participated with some images... they got downloaded like hell.. my revenue dropped inmensively when they started the free section, never recovered... to top this all... in that period when i donated i got personal mail from a designer (i guess) asking if i would donate image X, also  in portfolio and slightly similar,  also to the free section.

No more freebies from then on... final...  >:(

Patrick.

I used to put some in the free section, but lately have been deleting them.  Some of them sell on other sites.

me too, if the same images have sales on other site, why do I have to give it for free?

Microbius

I'd always delete rather than giving it away for free. I don't think this would ever drive traffic to your portfolio. For one thing it'll be the worst of your images ending up in the free bin.

Has there been any clarification as to whether or not putting them in the free section/deactivating, or any other activity on these files, extends the 6 month hold they have on you?   I'm not looking to go exclusive anywhere else, but I would like to get off the site because sales are so bad.  That lets them hold and use my money for a much longer time, and I don't like that.  I'm moving more into illustration and just don't see the sales there that I do on other sites, so why give them even more money, just a few bucks short of payout?

Photos of people I will NOT give away for free.  I have enough trouble selling people without knowing where they're going without giving them away for who knows what use.  I found that my sales rocketed on FT when I put a bunch of photos in the free section and thought that would happen at DT.  It didn't, so I'll disable from now on.

I just want to know if I disable does that extend the 6 months?  If I do nothing and they disable it, does that count towards the 6 months?

Can you tell I'm confused?  LOL

Dr Bouz

no, i am not disabling old images, i am disabling ALL images ;)

Phil

I never saw a point for the contributor in free images. On 123 it did nothing. If someone can get good enough for free they wont buy (a friend has now collected over 40000 free images and he says he's not even working hard to able to get them, no flickr, pirate etc)

I have images older than 2 years on FT with sales, I got sick of the emails so I deleted those images. One of those images is a level 4 on DT, another sells 3-4 times a week, every week on SS. Different search engine placement.  It would be dumb of me to put them in a free section.

I put something in the free section that hasnt gotten good placement that is similar to yours and your sales drop. So you put something in free section similar to something of mine (or someone elses) and their sales drop. IMO in the end we all end up 'undercutting' each other with free images in the hope of improving sales.

No it's not. Look me up on Facebook. I AM his daughter. Not that I HAVE to prove it...to YOU anyways. My Son is even NAMED after him. (with the exception of his middle name so he wouldn't become a Jr., that would be just plain CREEPY! hahaha But no, I am his daughter and this is NOT some sick hoax FYI

Thank you , you have been very helpful. I am not really worried about it, I was just curious if someone was getting paid from my father's hard work. And someone had said something about an account being inherited or something. Thank you for your time tho!!!!

Back to the original discussion, I've been disabling old images as they approach the one-month period.  I have  not re-uploaded any of them.
