With  only  4  pics  online  2  sales  in  15  days  (both  are  brand  new  files).  Gotta  upload  more.  Fotolia  is  rapidly  becoming  a  #1  favorite.  I  have  more  acceptance  at  another  site  so  it's  fair  to  say  they're  running  neck  and  neck  for  favorite.
With  such  small  ports  at  each  site  2  sales  in  a  2  week  period  is  a  1st  for  me.

Hi Dan,

Fotolia may have quite frequent sales, but it seems their commission is quite low. If you haven't join shutterstock then u should try every way to get in, because it will generate much more sales than fotolia..

I've  tried  everything  to  get  in  at  SS.  Pics  that  sold  elsewhere  don't  work.  I  don't  know  what  else  to  do.

You need to pass the first 10 test. There is a very active forum that will help you get accepted. Just post your photos in the critique forum, 500px longest side and a 100% crop, and they will help you get 10 photos to get accepted. SS sells like a MF.

That's  what  i'm  going  to  do  next.  Seems  the  ones  i  thought  would  sell  fell  flat.  Try  try  again  i  guess.

Your 10 photos will need to be

1) Pinpoint Sharp - don't use shallow DOF in your application unless the image is killer
2) Noise Free
3) Artifact Free
4) Diverse - Show a diversity of subject matter. Don't just upload 10 images which fit into 1 or 2 categories
5) Nicely Composed
6) Colorful - Don't overdo it, but in my experience SS loves colors which pop
7) Unique - Try not to show them stock cliches, as you might get a reviewer who is sick of the same old stock.

The application review is typically more difficult than the everyday reviews you will face once accepted. From what I understand iStockphoto is similarly difficult to enter, with the application graded more harshly than everyday reviews.

You can use the SS critique forum to throw some examples at the more experienced shooters. There are a lot of helpful people if you are open to criticism.

No Shadows, even if they are expressive and artistic!  :-\

Fotolia is a good earner. I am very pleased with them.

Only inasmuch as they like to see a variety of images, even if you will never upload certain types of photo. It's not uncommon to have one - or more - of your accepted application pics rejected for selling (not counting the obvious, e.g. you shoot a portrait just to show something different, but your model doesn't want to have their pic on sale, or you didn't notice a tiny logo).

For me, FT is a low earner with occasional sales, contrasted with SS where I have daily sales.  It took me eight tries to get accepted on SS, and a couple of those consisted entirely of shots that had been approved in previous attempts.  Most (if not all) were images that had sold on other sites.  It seems like a moving target with a lot of inconsistency, but it's worth the effort to keep trying.  Maybe it's their way of weeding out those who aren't serious about it, or perhaps it's just too much subjectivity.  Who knows?  But it's the only site on which I make payout every month.

3rd  sale  but  sub  18 cents.  But  things  are  bound  to  get  better.
