Title: Indexing in Adobe Stock vs. Fotolia
Post by: josephjacobs on January 15, 2018, 15:19
I was wondering if anyone has a preference between the two uploading platforms now that adobe stock has branched off. If you upload from Fotolia, you have choices with exclusivity, ordering keywords, and price. If you upload from Adobe Stock, you get auto-generated categories and keywords, less precise categories, and it looks like the max price for photos defaults to double that of Fotolia uploads. So, which platform is best to upload/index pictures?

I prefered Fotolia for uploading.
Actually I upload by ftp. But after a while using Adobe to edit/order keywords I prefer it to Fotolia

I preferred Fotolia too. By the way, where do you find the max price? Can you set it any more?

I also prefer Fotolia for uploading. However, if Adobe introduced custom video thumbnails it would be a game changer.

I think that can just to ask to Fotolia/Adobe to fix the max price to the price you want for all your images and they will do it for you (I did that some years ago).
But, yes, with Adobe you cannot fix different prices for each file.

Why?

Because most of the time the auto generated thumbnail picks a a really bad poster frame.

Pond5, Storyblocks and even Getty let you choose a frame from your video as the thumb/poster frame so it can't be that difficult.

Something is driving me nuts...  On the Adobe Interface you can fix keywords according to importance, add and replace them etc.. But I have files from the same series and cannot copy and paste the keywords, taking literally several minutes per file. This is such a workflow nightmare.

I have to manually order every file in the series as there is no replace keywords function. To anyone that has a fix please share!  :-[

I think it is best to fix them before you upload. I use Stock Submitter for that and I wrote a long (OK, very long) explanation of my workflow on my blog in case it helps:

You can copy and paste keywords now. To change the view from individual boxes to one large box with all keyword click the icon in the upper right corner that says "paste keywords."

This morning I have tried to copy the ordered keywords from one file and to paste them to 5 other files.
It failed! It seem that it is not possible to paste the keywords to several files in one time…

I have confirmed the workflow for this and as far as I can tell, everything is working normally.

User can select multiple files at once.
Click “Paste Keywords“ button.
Paste the selection of keywords in that window.
Click “Save work“ button.
All files selected should now have those keywords added.

FYI, this will only add those keywords to your selected content. It does not replace existing keywords. If you want to do that you must click "erase all keywords" before pasting the new ones.

It pasted the ordered keywords in only one file (the first in alphanumeric order) and let them as they were in the other files

Probably this was the problem because my keywords were 50, and so pasting other 50 keywords over them did not replace them.
Maybe some alert message would be welcome ;)

Aha! Mystery solved, thanks for the follow up information. I'll share your suggestion for an alert with the development team. Thanks!

@MatHayward

Thanks, Mat but I am not talking about the recent new uploads. I am trying to order all my previous footage keywords as I uploaded this footage with the keywords from my CSV which is not ordered by relevance. Adobe/Fotolia uses keyword order of importance which is now forcing me to order these.  If you guys could add a way to copy and paste keywords in blocks it would be a real lifesaver for older uploads.  I have thousands left to order and with the current interface, it is really a slow and painful process which could be streamlined if we had the same interface as recent uploads to fix the older ones.  Any help would be appreciated.  :D

I'm not sure I follow your thought process here. By pasting keywords in blocks are you wanting to paste the first 7 keywords so they stay on top, then add the rest in any order? If so, you should be able to do that. Just paste the first 7 in the top keyword box and hit the tab key. When they are distributed into their own individual boxes, paste the remaining keywords into the 8th box and hit tab. If I'm totally missing the point, please explain what you are wanting in more detail.

Thanks,

Mat

I am trying to correct the keywords on already uploaded videos to match the relevance by order.  I am using this URL to fix the files in Portfolio: https://contributor.stock.adobe.com/en/portfolio/videos

I am not able to copy paste anything, I have to do it manually for every file and order them individually only even from the same batch.  Pasting and pressing enter does nothing in any box.  The interface is not the same as in the submission /keywording page for new files.  Hope that clears it up.

I understand now. Yes, the edit function for content already online is not as convenient as the actual indexing tool. I don't recommend you have your standard workflow setup to edit keywords after approval. I don't anticipate the functionality of that tool getting much better any time in the near future. You are going to have a much easier time getting the keywords in proper order before submitting for review.

@mat - Not sure if Adobe is trying to do this with ai rather than manually for the foreseeable future, but I would +1 the custom thumbnail suggestion as well.

@MatHayward

Seems I am out of luck. By just allowing pasting a block of keywords on the already approved files it would be enough. Only Fotolia/Adobe asks for this keyword relevance order in the stock world and as such the tools to make it possible should be easy to use and not cumbersome for all stages of file adjustment.

All my new uploads are being ordered properly on my end for a couple of months but I found out about this relevance after the fact over a year later than I uploaded must of my footage.   Why have two different interfaces at the time of upload and later?  The code is already built it is just a matter of calling that code object for already approved files.

Hundreds of hours of wasted time fixing this is really no fun!  :-[

Yes...while we're on the topic, I find the keyword ordering a time consuming extra step. I use Lightroom which orders keywords alphabetically. After upload, I must manually change keyword order. It would benefit everyone if keywords were all weighted equally, then as downloads occur based on certain keywords, the website would create it's own keyword weighting over time...not only easier for contributors, but actually better because weighting would be based on real data, not just the contributors guesses.

while you are reading and answering questions, is there any way to get useful statistics on sales - like how many sales for how much in a given month on Adobe - or else a way to open up access to the Fotolia interface for all? I am pleased to report I have enough sales that I really don't want to have to add them up by hand (of course that is anything more than 1 sale for me).

I agree, it's a bummer keywords are alphabetized in Lightroom. I've asked about this and I don't anticipate it changing in the future. In my personal workflow, I do my RAW conversions in LR then finish everything in PS. I use Bridge to add my keywords where the order is not changed.

I know that I am off topic, but as this thread is active I will ask here.

When I have 1 image accepted I receive 1 email.
When I have 100 images acceptes I receive…… 100 emails!! (and it becomes kind of spam)

Why Adobe does not regroup all the acceptance notification mails in one (or daily) as all other sites do?
(Or is it a way to look "different" :p )
