Hi,

Today i started the day at  minus 1.85 dollar... obvious, again a refund.
Checked the other credit section, made a note of the day and hour and went to my portfolio to search for that XL sale ,,,,,refund.
Strangely enough i can't find it, even more strange, five day prior to and five day after that supposed sales i didn't have a single XL sale...

Sorry to bother you with a stupid question, but can you explain me what a refund IS? Someone is allowed to "return" my image they bought previously and he can be given refund? How can I be sure he does not keep a copy of my image? How is it possible at all to return a downloaded image? I would never allow that. Once downloaded, the image cannot be refunded or returned, can it?

It does... fotolia, bigstock, shutterstock, istock do refunds.
We have to believe the client actually deletes the file.. although i have my doubts.

Sometimes they get refunded if they have to re-download the image over again, for instance if the download failed or something.  If that was the case for you Patrick, I'm sure you would have seen the extra sale credit.

No way would I believe the client would actually delete the file! No sir! I just cannot believe it. It is ridiculous to say the least.
And as far as failed download is concerned - IMHO this is the problem of the agency, not mine. So they should refund the client (if at all) from THEIR commission. I think I like the microstock agencies less and less...

I don't see what's the big deal. I had ~2500 sales on iS and so far 2-3 refunds. And I think in those somebody downloaded the file twice accidentally. Regardless, it is a very small percentage.

Fotolia has said for some of their refunds it is discovery of fraud on the purchaser's part (stolen or invalid credit card). At other sites it's been someone downloading a file multiple times by mistake. I don't recall ever having a case where the buyer just didn't like what they bought.

With Patrick's situation, could the refund have been for the wrong size - I forget whether you can tell which image was the refunded sale.

You can't be sure the buyer will not use a refunded image, as well as you can not guarantee that a buyer will not use the purchased image outside the license terms.  It's a fact of life in this industry.

As I said in another thread, if a buyer asks for a refund in one image, I don't see a problem. The problem would be asking refund in all purchased images - that I would find suspicious.

Adelaide

I also had an XL refunded on the 25th (image sold on the 2nd), and the reason was : "Buyer's credit card declined"
I too checked my sales for Sept. 2, and the XL sale doesn't appear. So I guess they deleted it.
Strange month for me : first a $20 EL refunded at DT, then a refund at FT. I never had any refund before.
