"The new rules include holding technology companies responsible for material posted without proper copyright permission"

What this means?

"The new rules include holding technology companies responsible for material posted without proper copyright permission"

What this means?

Watch and see. I think if it passes, the problem is, how does a website control what a user uploads. What does responsible mean?

Article 13 holds larger technology companies responsible for material posted without a copyright licence.

The Tech Companies would need to prove:
it made "best efforts" to get permission from the copyright holder
it made "best efforts" to ensure that material specified by rights holders was not made available
it acted quickly to remove any infringing material of which it was made aware

Sounds very much like DMCA? Just can't wait for another toothless watchdog, that doesn't even bark. File a claim, file a claim, whack a mole provisions, but how do we ever get paid for these violations. So far we get nothing...

and this one:

Article 11 states that search engines and news aggregate platforms should pay to use links from news websites.

News sites don't want their headlines listed on search engines, and don't want people to be given links to their news? They want to be in a dark hole, and not seen? Something sounds wrong with that. Search engine paying for finding things for us?

If you ask youtubers it is the end of the world!! No "fair usage" of everyhting they want! :) :D

There is this well known meme with a couple, outdoors, the guy turns and look to another woman.

It is labeled "Canon" over the girlfriend and "Sony" over the unknown girl.

I remember reading that the creator of the photo never filled a claim against anyone, he laughed with the meme and had some exposure in total.

Question: reproduction sites, individuals social media etc. how many should have pay for this traffic, the clicks and usage of the original image? It was a really smart and cool meme. But so are actual payed to be made advertisements.

Personally I'm in two minds on the one hand it pisses me off that I see one of my images in a news article suddenly passed off on other news sites without any extra revenue being generated.

On the other hand I doubt anyone will police this and it won't create any benefit whatsoever for the image producer. The news sites will gather revenue and keep it for themselves.

However it may help focus the corporate minds in outfits like SS to actually do something about the rampant image theft they are hosting on their platform

Great news. Googles,Yahoos, Microsofts have destroyed the livelihoods of thousands just stealing content without any shame. Those times are over at least in the European Union. Now these leechers can run to countries where copyright is not enforced. But here it is over.

I don't think this applies to search and find. How do you find anything on the Internet without using a search, I'd like to know?
