Title: Anyone submitting @ Photoshelter?
Post by: Velvia on February 10, 2008, 21:18
I recently got accepted @ Photoshelter. Nice looking site, love its concept.
Looks very promising!

I was just wondering if any of you guys are having any success there?

Is it worth it?

I got accepted too. Then I tried to add keywords, titles, etc to the images accepted and got frustrated with the interface. Until I hear that they are at the level with FT or DT I am not to waist time with  that interface.

They give the opportunity to everyone to download for free webpage resolution images!!!!!
They call it "comp download". As their watermark is almost useless the whole thing looks ridiculous.
Just have deleted my portfolio!

Also Alamy permits this and about every other macro site. Just go to the Getty page (example http://corporate.gettyimages.com/marketing/Galleries/5048_TaxiRM/usa/Gallery.html (http://corporate.gettyimages.com/marketing/Galleries/5048_TaxiRM/usa/Gallery.html) ) and you could alt-stamp all the images you want at web resolution without watermark, but I never heard of panicked Getty photogs who scream on forums about deleting their portfolio there. It's a different market.

I've just been looking at them and wondering whether to join.

They also have a 'Personal Archive' where they'll store your photos.

Anyone use this?

I've opened an account there, mostly for the photo calls.

I think they may be a British run site (I could be wrong) since alot of their calls seems very UK-orientated.

I'm thinking about paying for the hosting there so I can load more images on, then use that as a gallery from my main website, as my own stock library kinda thing.

I registered there at the beginning of February and I had my initial submission accepted within 5 working days, my latest batch is taking a lot longer.  Unlike Alamy they do review your submissions for content as well as technical issues.  Some of their photographs in the Creative section are a little ‘off the wall’. This opens up possibilities for photographs rejected at microstock sites for being ‘not stock’.

It seems to me that with the microstock sites, Alamy and now Photoshelter there should be an outlet for all types of photographs as long as the technical quality is up to scratch.

I registered there a few weeks ago and sent in 10 images with my application. They accepted 9, made one an 'editors choice' (a little gold star appears with the image), and promoted me to a 'level 2' (out of 4) photographer. I haven't sold anything yet, and haven't filled out the tax forms either.

Their keywording interface is bulky until you get used to it. It's similar to IS in that they have a controlled vocabulary, but not as streamlined. After I keyworded my initial 10 images I uploaded a batch of 50 to get a sense of what they were looking for. They put some sort of hold on 2, accepted 32, and rejected 16, which makes my approval rate 41/58=71% - lower than I expected. One of 'em was selected as an editor's choice.

My plan is to upload images in batches of 10 until I have enough approved images in the bank that I can whip through their keywording process in short order.

That's weird, I've been "accepted" but I never got an email, and the pictures didn't go into my portfolio.

Perhaps there was a box to check or something to make my initial 10 go into my portfolio.  I'm glad they didn't, because they're microstock, and I know photoshelter don't like you selling microstock stuff there.

Nope.  Not interested.
