Hi all,

I am looking into macrostock as it seems some pictures will sell better as macrostock..

anyway i have a lot of questions and would like to discuss.. here i will say what i had read over internet.

macrostock will sell RM and RF image..does it mean we can sell same RF image to macrostock and like shutterstock, istock?

i understand an image with RM license can be exclusive and non-exclusive, so can we sell a non-exclusive RM image over more than one macrostock agencies?

the major macrostock agencies are like corbis, getty and alamy..can we join them all and sell same non-exclusive RM photos on them?

it seems to me there are much more macrostock agencies like jupiterimages but it seems had sold the RM images to getty.. and how about Inmagine?myloupe.com.. what do you think of all these website? which macrostock agencies you will recommend?

hope you guys share your experiences! thanks.

Yes, but personally I think it is more recommendable to have separate portfolios.  Others don't.

Yes.  Some buyers may want to know about previous licenses of an image, so keep the information from all agencies organized.

I have images in MyLoupe, but never sold anything there.  I also have a macrostock portfolio at FP, had a few sales with them, but when there were some site changes they withdrew most of my RM images asking me to "prove" they are not im micros or RF elsewhere, and I was very disappointed with that.  I also have an account with Imagebroker, but in fact never uploaded to them (it was very complicate in the past, I read it is simpler now).

Sean, you said some time ago that your sales at Getty are not so good. Can you tell as more about your experience with Getty.
Thanks!

if they are non-exclusive yes.
have a look through some of the other threads here, a few of them have been mentioned before such as myloupe which is a total waste of time.
but I think it is just as important is how many places / partners are selling that agencies photos, I see Jonathon Ross discussing spacesimages, which are exclusive but they are going to be sold by 80-odd agencies, I would think (but dont have much experience here) that it may be better to use this type of agency then half a dozen bottom ones?

My sales at Getty are not so good.

Actually, I haven't added anything there in quite a while.  I peaked sometime last year, and now it kind of wavers around half of that.

Thanks for info, Sean.
But, you are doing so well at IS, I don't think you need another market, or have time for it.

That is also true.  We like what we are comfortable in. :)

it seems to me the first steps to get into some macro stock is camera requirements, like high MP camera.

but it seems most agencies set a lot of requirements and one needs certain quanity of pictures to to get admission, some agencies will ask for a review of portfolio at website.

I guess seems like flickr collection of getty is the easiest way to get into macro?

I'd be careful with that assessment. Rarely a photographer takes great picture "just" because of a "high MP" camera.

Of course the technical requirements will tell you what source material you can upload (or apply with) but in the end the content matters. The content is highly depending on your photographic skills and not just the camera itself.

I assume you would like to make a living off of photography judging from your motive of breaking into Macro agencies. I recommend to extensively analyze and prepare for that move before being shot down.

Gather all information you can get about every Macro agency that you're interested in. Try to establish some kind of communication that answers all your questions.

Some agencies won't even look at your pictures if you don't already have a portfolio of 2000 or more photos (and they surely won't consider your microstock images).

Think about it, you want to be taken seriously by the agency. They need to see that you are a motivated, successful photographer that will be an asset to their library. They are running a business as well and they rather accept photographers with larger portfolios than ones with only 50-200 pictures.

Naturally, there are exceptions to the rule.

Ya, I think camera skills are important, but i just mention out the camera MP will be as important as other conditions, i have used film camera but nowadays no agency are comfortable to accept scanned images..
