Does it help in any way, do you think. Making posts on forums such as "Show us your newest", "your latest download", "best selling image" etc.

So many seem to submit to these threads. Just wondering of your opinion  - if the is a plus or even minus to contributing to such threads.

For some people it helps - it helps to take their mind off the desperation to sell something.

Most likely they believe in the extra exposure of their work, but are buyers watching the forums?

I doubt many buyers trawl through those threads.  I used to put my photos in them when I started but I sell much more now and I seldom look at those threads.

It will certainly get your files more views.
Sales on the other hand? Not so much.

But will these views improve your search position?

The best selling image threads will most likely have the opposite effect. Early on I participated in these kinds of threads. The second time that my image was blatantly copied, I learned my lesson.

There are people watching those threads, but they are not buyers.

Yea i did posted most of my favorite images on all agencies forums. I can say any of them are my best sellers anywhere.

Also they almost all have been downloaded less than 15 times each everywhere in overall. Short story, no buyers go watch those threads IMO

The buyers may not be here in any great numbers and opinions here would have little effect on them if they even read them.

BUT the site CEO's DO READ THESE THREADS! And I for one have seen many big and positive changes on more than one site. Due to the opinions of the photographers here.

If a site sucks for any reason and they do not want to fix it .... let everyone here know about it and together we can make changes happen!

Larry,
as magnum said, not what takestock is asking.
HOWEVER,
still a good post and very valid comment .
AND WORTH REPEATING:

...."the site CEO's DO READ THESE THREADS! And I for one have seen many big and positive changes on more than one site. Due to the opinions of the photographers here.

NOTE:
you should re-direct this comment to one of the more relevant posting, Larry ! as i feel it's worth publishing.

That's something to ponder.

I don't feel I have a port worth copying, unlike many of you here with a large port and lots of good sellers. There was a time when I was quite active in the blog and felt this way. Then I tried to convince myself it's unfounded.

Still, I am now inclined to think that it does diminish your earning potential to be too popular.
I think someone like Sean (sjlocke) had once mentioned that too.
