Title: EL Sale Bragging
Post by: Kngkyle on October 30, 2007, 16:32
For many of us, EL sales are rare and when we do get one it is cause for a celebration. So if you have gotten an EL sale recently, post the image here!

Of course I created this topic because I got an EL sale today, so I shall start.  ;)

First EL from LuckyOliver, this * image has 1445 views  (It is on the first page of google search "yellow star" or something) and has never sold until today. $25, which means I might actually have a chance of getting a payout from LO in the next year!  ;D

Ok heres the image:

Now share your story!  ;)

Yeah, EL's have been pretty scarce for me.  Until this month I don't think I can remember the last one...  Anyway, I sold this Christmas image on SS a few days ago.  I had just uploaded it about a week prior.  It was a nice little wake-up surprise for me that morning.  ;D

I'm ashamed.  My latest EL was in FT in July.

Which, BTW, was used by AOL Germany (a regular S sale this time) in an online financial article, which was also published by other sites (not AOL, but integrally copied from it).  Is that legal?

ahhhhhhhh you are the one with the little men :)

I saw a picture in a magazine yesterday that I knew I had seen here and so I went searching for it on shutterstock, and found the images, but didn't know they were yours (since they use full names on shutterstock) .... anyhow it was the image of the green 'astronauts' on the hard drive walking around.  It was a half page image in the norwegian version of "computer world" - i am guessing they bought it from istock because......... on another page i noticed an image with REALLY bad jpg artifacts, then realize the istock watermark was still over the image ... opps.  They obviously made a comp with the thumbnail and forgot to put in the real image... but that was someone elses image - not yours.

On average, I have around one EL per month. This one was my first ever on IS, and it came yesterday:

I was so excited on 10-25 when I got my first EL on 123rf for the image above.  Believe it or not, my earnings were $37.125  I don't quite get the 1/2 cent but whatever, I'll take it.  I got an EL on this same image last month on Dreamstime.  Very fun.  By the way, I also wanted to thank Laurin Rinder on his tip that improved this picture.  Thanks Laurin!

Congrats to everyone that have received EL's recently!

Haven't gotten very many, but this is the latest, from just 2 days ago.  It is a nice feeling to see your daily stats spike when one of those sells!

I normally get 1-2 a month, mostly on SS and IS. This one sold last week, it's one of my oldest images, and is before I started isolating properly. I love it when an old, not sold much images pops up as an EL :-)

Yep, that's me!  I've become a bit obsessed with shooting "little men" here lately.  By the way, what month magazine is that?  My hubby has a WOW (world of warcraft) friend who might be able to get a copy for me.  ;D

Congratulations to everyone else who have also gotten some EL's!

I always wondered why some stock sites sell more EL-licenses than others. I have made a quick list of all my EL-sales and from this it is clear that FT and SS is the best sites for selling EL's, while DT is the worst despite being third on my earnings list.  LO sold quite a few, which is surprising considering the relatively low sales there.

FT - 39 EL's
SS - 26
IS - 11
BigStock - 4
LO - 4
123RF - 2
DT - 1
Total: 87

Do your distribution of EL's look similar?
Title: Re: EL Sale Bragging
Post by: Kngkyle on October 31, 2007, 12:19
Ummm I think mine goes like this:

FT - 3
SS - 1
LO - 1

I don't have a very large portfolio, and a lot of it is illustrations, which don't seem to get ELs as much as photos. But, I am quickly submitting photos.  ;) Those numbers are since March/April.

Post by: Freezingpictures on October 31, 2007, 12:51
Eco is that from this month  :)?!
Yes for me it is similar, for all time, except just one at LO. As you only one at DT. 123 RF and BS no ELS the others, SS, FT looks similar. In addition I had 2 at StockXpert.

All of mine have been since March  (I love extended license sales)

DT - 1
FT - 3
SS - 4
IS - 1
LO - 1

5 of them were nature photos.  I think they must sell for calendars or something with larger runs.

LO sold quite a few, which is surprising considering the relatively low sales there.

Eco, LO sells more I think because they only sell the largest (original) file size as an EL.  If they would just put the dimensions on the landing page for that photo, you would likely sell more at the EL size, as it is - they give the dimensions for every size but the EL (until they click through to purchase).

for me since July:

- SS: 4 (3 this month)
- FT: 4 (2 this month)
- IS: 3 (2 this month)

earnings at FT are very low for EL

Eco is that from this month  :)?!

I wish it was for this month only.  If I can earn that many EL's each month I may actually be able to live off my Microstock earnings. ;D

Most of my ELs were in FT.  I guess I had about 8-10 there overall.  One in FP too.  And unless I forgot something, none elsewhere.

On FT i just passed "Bronze" (100 Dl's) yesterday and I sold an EL today, but there's a problem:

EL earnings must raise from 20 to 50 credits when you are bronze!! My EL is the 101 Dl's and no raise for me!! Always 20 Crédits!!!
Certainly another bug, shame on Fotolia!

Somebody else have encountered the same bug?

You have to change the price. It doesn't automatically do it. You can e-mail them and they will change your entire portfolio to 50 credits so you don't have to go through each image.

Changing price for each picture separately ?

SO, Fotolia is a middle-age microstock site !!

This is my first photo accepted anywhere in 06.  It's a good thing they took this series, as the others were rejected and I may have given up before I gave this microstock thing a chance.  This shot doesn't sell like hotcakes, but it generates a slow steady income.  Nature photography does not give the instant gratification of the "pretty girl in headset" effect, but a good photo seems to sell regularily, and should never really go out of style.

This one has an EL today on SS (YIPPEEE) and two weeks ago on IS.   Funny that the only extended license sales for it in 20 months are 2 weeks apart.

Wow, thanks guys!

Oh, ldambies, how embarrassing!  :-[  But, thanks for noticing - I really wanted a blog and got everything in order, I have a notebook full of topics - but so little time!  I had no idea that once a blog went live the whole world would find out about it so easily.  No optimization, no tags, no submitting to search engines.  I thought it would be like my business... work, work, work to drive traffic - but, apparantly it takes little effort to bring traffic to a blog.  (Maybe I should add one to my business site!)  Here I figured I would write a few entries and then add it to my signature.

How on earth does Lee manage such an excellent blog?

So thanks for noticing, on your behalf, if I manage to finish designing several Christmas cards for clients this week - I'll try to update!

Hey, nice looking blog.  Let me know when you write your story.

I notice you don't have a referral badge for StockXpert.  I tried earlier and just gave up.  Finally, got back to it this morning and came up with something.   When I was looking around at other people's blogs I couldn't find a StockXpert badge and wondered if it's not just me - that there is something wrong with the code StockXpert has on their site.  You have to apply first to get a referral id.  I manged to figure out some code if you want it to make your own StockXpert referral badge I can send it to you.

Well I rarely get EL sales, and all of them on SS. Till that day of  ;D utter joy  ::), Nov 3 2007, I got 3 EL's in a row on DT around the same time, at maximum size (10MP). I thought at first there was a glitch in the earnings box as there was 75$ more.
All 3 are tropical nature (2 sunsets, 1 waterfall). My guess is somebody used it for a mag, but alas, I will never know, since the buyer didn't send me a comment this time.

(http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumbimg_110/1167849258HU3X7v.jpg) The rainbow is faked in with PS.

(http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumbimg_111/1168368469ZxXj93.jpg) The red is exaggerated in PS with a soft-light layer. Surf lighted up with simple on-cam flash.

(http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumbimg_116/1169849868R3JhLq.jpg) This shot almost killed me. Back to the resort in a moonless night found out my rented motorcycle's lights didn't work. There was a giant concrete block and a very deep excavation on the road, of course without signals and lights. I noticed it when I already passed it, a near miss of 30cm. Welcome to South-East Asia.  ;D

WOW... congrats everyone on the ELs.

I've only had one significant one that sold for $100. (gross) for an extended print run.

If anyone sees it anywhere, let me know please?

I'm happy when fellow photogs post that they get ELs, makes one feel like its all worth it and something to aspire to.

(ok, so how do you insert a picture here... senior moment, can't figure it out.  Can anyone explain in laymans terms?)

(Hit preview to see if you got it right).
