Hey guys, do you have any experience dealing with GST/HST? There seems to be no mechanism for charging it or even know how many sales are made in Canada for Canadian contributors. Any input?
You need to also ask that question to an accountant, very important with tax matters that you get advice from an accountant and ideally one who is familiar with web based business if possible and an accountant you feel comfortable with, this is the CRA you could eventually be dealing with if audited.
In my case I am GST/HST registered, I do have an accountant do my paperwork, I still get to claim the ITC's on valid expenses incurred to earn business income but I can't charge HST on any sales obviously.
I have to ask my accountant to clarify this myself actually, the firms founders retired and the new guys running it have a language and severe attitude barrier so I got yelled at and threatened they would charge me $250/hr if I called again asking question and expecting my call returned.
Most rude people I've dealt with, exact same attitude I've gotten as some Subway subs outlets, god I am so sorry they had to serve a customer today......but these accountants do seem to do good and proper paperwork and that's what matters when dealing with the CRA because if there ever is an audit and things aren't 150% by the book even due to an honest error or omission.....serious trouble. That's actually why I have an accountant do it, I don't trust myself with something as dangerous as the CRA.
