I found one of my (really not best) images as thumb for a free images/vector/video site called icon0.com:

I am curious, where did this website get my photo? This photo - who wonder - never get sold. but here used as thumb to pull interest for their site.

So I went there, but could not find that photo on that site! Strange, isn´t it?

If you go there, you find free images on their own site, but also 123RF, deposit and shutterstock. I tried to fin some photos from me, but could not find any. Maybe you can find your photos there for free?
I have no idea, how this site works. No idea either, if this is something like promo.com, where our photos and videos are offered for free.

On the main site of icon0.com you can find another website with free images/vectors called vecteezy.com. Funny: Contributors get paid 5 $ per 1000 downloads!
Also on that website I could not find any of my photos.

So, this is just to inform you, if you also never heard about these two websites. And if you know them and can tell us more about them, let us know.
Seem like both websites working together.

I know vecteezy is an affiliate. I'm not familiar with icon0.

You can tell a site is an affiliate if they show your name in the information about the image, and also have most of your portfolio. A thief will never put your name on anything.

There are also sites that appear to offer images for sale, but really just have thumbnails and comps that they have copied. It's annoying, but legal. The watermarks of the sites thumbnails are from will still be on the images.

I took a closer look at icon0. They do have a large section of free downloads. I notice they are using contributor numbers instead of names, though.

Check to see if the number attached to your image matches your account number.

Send a message to support at your agency, and ask them if icon0 is an affiliate.

It's probably legit, but looks sketchy. My impression is that they are a "new approach" site that is failing.

I was not thinking enough when I wrote it. Of course Getty and Shutterstock are not giving our videos and photos away for free on promo.com. From Getty we get that connect payout or how ever they call it. But indeed long time nobody here knew, if they are totally for free. Well, we get something for it, even it is nearly the same like nothing. But right: I was wrong!

And the two other websites here: I do not know yet, but did not directly thought they use our images for free, because our artist name or file numbers are shown. Maybe just another kind of connect? But this time from other agencies? Well, we never know and we do not know, where else our images are offered in which kind ever.
It is just little bit frustrating that we have to research it on our own, then investigate on our own, because some agencies don´t give us that kind of information anywhere before that. But on the other side I can understand them: There might be to many websites - not only affiliate ones. It would be to complicated for us contributors to understand it, because we do not know anything about business and how it works.

I don't know of any agency that lists affiliates or API resellers. This is because that information confidential and they don't wan the competition coming in and offering images for less. I'd sure like a way to know which sites are legitimate and which are stealing, but I don't see that in the future.

When I worked in sales, my customer lists were a protected asset. The office manager stole that information and took it to the competition, they paid him well and hired him. He was fired eventually because he was a dunce, but so what, they got the lists and poached almost every customer, and he got paid for being a underhanded ungrateful thief.

This isn't all about us or telling us who gets our images. In fact it's protection for the agency. For a long time I have disliked the secret deals and partners approach, especially since they get a price cut, which means we get a commission cut. But that's the way it is.

Thanks for the correction. Promo may not be something we like, but they are legitimate and we do get paid for use.
