I was immediately disgusted, I thought it was to take a screenshot so posting stolen images could be even faster, but it does a google search. As far as I can tell.

CClapper, is there any way you could provide us Oldies with a tinee, tiny bit of MORE information of what the heck you are talking about  ;) ?

I tried to understand your topic and/or your OP but I can't get what you mean?

Thanks in advance.

I had to find a page that would do it, because not every page does. Go to zazzle.com. Hover over and around their whole logo in the upper left. For me, a blue camera appears. In fact, as I hover a lot of the images on their home page, the blue camera appears. If I click on the blue camera, it goes to a google search with results related to that image. For me, this just started happening yesterday.

Go to the MSG logo at the top of this page. When I hover over it, in addition to the pointer turning to the hand, the blue camera appears to the right. It would appear Google Images is infiltrating everything. Is it the Firefox browser or ?? I'll go open Safari and Chrome and see what happens.

Hmmm, I went to Zazzle and just get the 'hand' icon as normal, no matter what I hover over (home page only). I have v14.0.1 (PC), which FF tells me is 'up to date'.
Presumably (by your avatar) you use the Mac version, which maybe has introduced this sooner?

No, it's not showing when using Safari or Chrome. Yes, Mac, Firefox 12.0. I didn't have the latest FF, I was on version 8.0 but just updated to 12.0 and it is still there. The camera brings up the same search results as right clicking and choosing "Search Google with this image".

I don't get that option with FF - I thought you had to install it? Maybe it you had already installed it, that's the new interface?
Oddly, and annoyingly, I lost the right-click option with a recent Chrome update.

Maybe that's what it is. It is kind of cool. Saves the right clicking thing. It's there on a lot of images as I roll over them.

If you want it (Google images) disabled, go to your Firefox tools folder and click on 'Add Ons'. You'll see Google Images app which you can 'Enable, Disable or Remove.' I tend to enable it when I want to use it but have it disabled for the majority of the time. I have an old, slow computer so it uses processor power/RAM when working (or whatever!) and slows this machine down. Besides I find the 'blue camera' hovering over most pics, irritating.

Chances are that you have downloaded the app at some point but then a few Firefox updates were incompatible with Google Images and it was disabled. Didn't think that it was re-enabled automatically by the latest Firefox but who knows.

Yes, I do remember enabling it and I'm OK with it. For now. You're right, it might get annoying after a while.

Thanks for explaining it a bit further.

I have the "Google Simlar Images 0.4" installed but don't get the camera.

Which Addon do you have?

Here at school, Search by Image (By Google) 1.0.6. I would imagine I have the same thing at home, as they are both working the same way.

Sorry, need to amend that. The camera isn't showing here at school, so the above is NOT the add-in that's doing it. I won't know what I have at home until later this evening.

Sorry, need to amend the amend. Yes it is working here with Search by Image (By Google).

For my Mac Firefox 12.0, under preferences, you go to Tools/Addons/Extensions to find Search by Image 1.0.6

Be warned: If you search the web for uses of your images you will find pirated uses. Lots of them. This will not make you feel good. Theft of copyrighted images is so prevalent it has almost become a "right" for the uninformed and/or criminal. Save yourself a world of frustration by not using this feature. I sell hundreds of images each month through various stock sites and I'd guess the illegal uses far outnumber those.

MAC or PC, that's kind of important to figuring out what's going on?

Update: It's coming to a computer near you!

Just showed on mine, PC, XP, Firefox and I swear I didn't install anything new this morning. Simply magic?  ;)

Well sometimes the versions work a little differently, so sometimes it is important to know which platform.

I know, I didn't install anything new either. It just magically started appearing yesterday. That worries me a little, like someone has taken control of my computer.  :o

Just saw the button for the first time in Shutterstock Earnings. Firefox crashed right after that. Now with one button me and the whole internet can see where my images are being used and save them. Whoopee....

Now I can see it too, I wonder why it took "so long"?

Not sure whether I like this or not.

It's really annoying when trying to click on small thumbnails...

Yes, I see the blue camera everywhere I hover.  Even on the MSG logo above.

Now if Google were to list discoveries with agencies at the top every time, it might actually be helpful in teaching people that these images are for sale.  There would still be intentional theft, of course, but it might reduce unintentional theft.

But it only works if you have already installed the search thingy (I think, I haven't got it here and FF is still reporting 14.0.1 is 'up to date'). An 'unintentional' user is unlikely to install that addon, if anything else because they don't know about it (I wouldn't know about it if I wasn't on here). I'm sure it's main use will be togs looking out for abuse - or genuine 'in-use's.

Oh right.  I don't remember installing the Google thingy, but I suppose I must have.  As you say, if a person has no reason to install it, it's unlikely that they will.

Ah well.

I do think, though, that our only hope is for those services that are part of the problem to become part of the solution.  Hopefully things will take that direction as the Web matures.
