Hi all,

I am having problem some jpg with IPTC metadata isn't able to be read by certain website.

I have a batch of image, some IPTC are read, some aren't not. I tried shutterstock, and cutcaster.

I used Irfanview before, it works fine, and only veermarketplace is not reading 'description', but i have to give Irfanview up since it removes clipping path.

so now i am using photoshop and adobe bridge, but the IPTC data is not consistent showing up.

I have check again in photoshop and the data is there.

I wonder what had make it fail to appear? would like to find out the reason..

anyone can help?

I've had the same problem with different versions of photoshop. The CS version works fine, but with older versions ( maybe 5 of 7?) all the metadata was lost on some sites such as Istock. I only use CS now.

If you let us know which version you are using, maybe someone else can chip in with advice.

I don't like the proprietary IPTC standard that Adobe tries to impose on the world. In the limit, you will be forced to use Adobe products to treat it. What's wrong with good old free Irfanview, that sticks to an open standard? Never had any problems with it.

That was happening with my images also for awhile: CS4 Mac. But only with IStock. When I complained to IStock they said that they were working on it. Lately its been working fine. Sorry, no explanation that I can come up with. The only change in my system was updates to my Mac OS...now at 10.5.8.

I am using CS3.. I edit by create metadata template, and populate to similar images in adobe bridge.

I really find it strange that it seems some images IPTC got read and some are not, i tried cutcaster, failed to read few images too.

I was using Irfanview before. However i have to switch to adobe bridge since Irfanview will remove clipping path! even just open the image with clipping path in Irfanview, the path will disappear.

i really find it is quite difficult to understand why adobe can't handle IPTC well..

i found out that it seems the IPTC that i input through adobe is not saved with jpg, eventhought i can see the IPTC in bridge when i choose the file, and eventhough when i open the image in photoshop and check the file info, the IPTC is there.

what one can do is edit the file info by opening the photoshop and save it after editing or choose IPTC template then if you close the jpg, it will be asked to save the image and the IPTC data seems will stick when you upload to the website.

It seems doesn't work if you edit the IPTC in adobe bridge.. that's mean i can't process them by batch keywords in bridge.

hope some experts will correct me if i am wrong..

I use Exifer and IS was never able to read my IPTC data. They knew this bug but never bothered.

I use Irfanview, and only have problems with IS. All fields are blanked out there now.

hi gaja and madelaide, check out deepmeta in istock website, you can download from their website application.

I used Irfanview and it works okay but it will remove any clipping path in jpg.

anyway, I also had problem for istock before that it won't read my IPTC, but then i found out the deepmeta and it is a must for istock, you can your 15 pictures one time..and the software will read IPTC and you can choose category and when everything is done, just upload through the software and that's all.

I never upload a lot when i was using the istock website interface, but deepmeta make it one go.
